nope, definitely the one I meant to reply too. Sorry that you don't know how to navigate reddit yet. Keep truckin, you'll figure it out.

Correct, I am not arguing with that. That would fall just as safely under systematic oppression. My only point is if issues are systemic, you can't ignore them because that makes it worse, because they mostly come about and thrive do to people ignoring their existence. This is exactly why systemic racism was and is such a problem in the US.

Granted, but SRS isn't really men's rights opposite, i would say that's more what TwoX is. SRS is more of just a troll subreddit, or rather a "i've got mad amounts of sand in my vajayjay" subreddit.

that's just untrue, there's multiple sides of the debate for a reason. How much literature have you read on it? And i mean peer reviewed literature, not shit anyone can throw up on a website.

As i've already posted, this happened before and people didn't give a shit that it was a woman either. just because the details about the report were slightly off, as they likely would be being so old, doesn't mean your point is any less off base. I was going to say you're looking for problems that don't exist, but that's not true. you're just looking in the wrong places for problems that actually exist. and by the way "You don't belong here" is the talk of a 12 year old. How is that any differe…

good holy fuck his post doesn't have a goddamn thing to do with chivalry in any way, shape, or form. holy fuck.

Firstly, saying something that talks about how women are shaming men has a bunch of upvotes in r/mensrights doesn't really prove anything. It's like saying that a post talking about how Obama is ruining the country has upvotes in r/republican is proof that Obama is ruining the country. Secondly, no, it's pretty much the exact reason why I thought it was being downvoted. I don't even have RES installed, so I was really going off of someone elses comments that it was receiving downvotes. I can't r…

Since you completely failed to read anything I wrote I see, I'll repeat it again real quick. It's a documented and studied phenomenon known as the bystander effect that has literally nothing to do with gender. It was named after a woman because the first case of it that was really studied just happened to be the murder of a woman. It has nothing to do with gender. This is a fact.

The text of point 9 is mostly accurate from what i've read, but the headline for it was worded very terribly. Your body definitely tries to shutdown afterwards and rest up, but it doesn't cause you to just feel distant from whoever you just had sex with.
/r/MensRights13/03/13 10:36 AM

This is weird. It's almost like the headliner of each point and the actual text were written by two different people. For instance, look at point 9: "It's also the reason men get tired, fall asleep, and don't want to cuddle immediately following sex. Don't take it personally. It's just a chemical reaction and is unrelated to his attraction to you." This is pretty well documented and mostly true. It doesn't always effect all guys the same way, but chemicals are released post-ejaculation that atte…

It's definitely a dangerous, short sided way of thinking. You hurt your own potential to attract more to your cause, you also demonize people who are merely trying to open up to multiple sides of an issue, and you simplify a debate that in reality is very complex. Let's just make sure we don't do the same thing to men who don't agree with us.

There's no doubt some self-inflicted wounds both sides would be too stubborn to admit to, but it's not like blaming all of it on the opposing viewpoint is ANYTHING but childish and counterproductive. Silly picture for sure.

And I'm sure feminists would think this is a typical MRA post. Let's stop the broad generalizations here, pretending youtube comments represent any group of people is beyond stupid. It's counterproductive and literally operates on the same logical principles as racism and prejudice. There's just no room for it in an intelligent debate, and the fact that "the other side does it too" is not a good reason to match their bullshit.

No doubt, but uh... you do realize this kind of shit is posted to facebook by 17 year olds with no life experience? We shouldn't take these kinds of people seriously, male or female.

I think I meant TwoX actually. I forgot SRS is basically just a bunch of batty old trolls. And for sure, I didn't mean to suggest you didn't understand that idea, it is mostly common sense afterall. But by some of the reactions on both sides of the debate, you'd swear a lot of people don't realize that people who think differently from them can actually be intelligent!

Interesting... a lot of her points seem really, just disingenuous. Like she's struggling to believe her own bullshit. We do need to try to shy away from equating every feminist with stupid things said by any feminist though. I am sure MRA has it's own handful of loons we'd rather not be associated with too.

Just keep in mind this subreddit has a history of ignoring the rational voices in feminist philosophy, much as SRS ignores anything good that comes out of this subreddit. SRS and men's rights sometimes feel like squabbling siblings. Good people exist on all sides of every issue, watch out for the agenda driven loons trying to make you think otherwise. there are retarded feminists and men's rights activists, as there are brilliant feminists and men's right activists.

I'm not saying women are actually oppressed, but if it was hypothetically a systematic oppression, ignoring it would seriously be the worse thing you could possibly do. That's sort of how systematic oppression operates, it hinges on the idea that people will accept it as a non-issue or even normal or standard.

Yeah, if a woman was getting beaten in the streets, there's no way people would've just stood there and let it happen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kitty_Genovese No, wait. That's actually exactly what happened. This post has absolutely nothing to do with gender. Stop making this subreddit a shitty place. All you have accomplished is showing your complete lack of understanding of what male privilege is. You don't have to agree with it, I sure don't agree with it, but for fucks sake rea…

The whole alpha beta thing is complete shit. This subreddit has so much potential, it's frustrating to see it drowned out by bitter, socially retarded nerds who have not the slightest idea of how interacting with the opposite sex actually works.

There is no message in this video though. I mean, of course there is but it has NOTHING to do with gender issues. Not even a little bit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kitty_Genovese This type of behavior has been documented and studied. It has nothing to do with gender. You'll notice that when the victim was a woman, still no one gave a shit. These type of posts do nothing but detract from the real issues this subreddit might be able to discuss. Turning a issue that isn't sex related in…

yup. this is pretty much a completely not-related-to-gender issue. In fact, it's a studied and noted phenomenon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kitty_Genovese
/r/MensRights13/03/13 09:28 AM

To be fair, this is a noted psychological phenomenon that has been studied and has very, very little (see: absolutely nothing) to do with sex or gender. check it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kitty_Genovese It's a terrible tragedy, no doubt, and pretty disturbing too. But it has little to do with men's rights. I'm not saying i'm a big fan of the idea of some malleable male privilege either, but this video literally does NOTHING to disprove the idea. Not one thing.

Here's how I see it: Glance - this what people do to everyone, all the time. When you catch the eye of someone across the room and then you look around, or away. When you look up from your phone to see who you're about to run into. Long glance - what people do to things that capture their attention. Hot chicks, someone laughing really loud, fast moving bright colors. Whatever it might be. Staring - this is kind of the excessive part. This does NOT have to be sexual: I think most of us would agre…

Ah I actually have both parents, but was raised in a rather low income area where a shitload of my friends did not. None of them seemed to be that way, but hey your mileage may vary. We're both just really going off experience here, I can't imagine there's a whole lot of data to go around about this. I feel your sentiment though, I've definitely met a guy or 2 that would've benefited greatly from a father figure.

Not even close? Try rereading the post. " At the worst, if someone I don't find attractive is giving me "long glances", I just try to ignore them. No harm, no foul, unless they start staring. In which case I remember their face and make a mental note to avoid them in the future, just like anyone else who stares at me." Being stared at is nearly always creepy. Being looked at is nearly always not.
/r/MensRights13/03/13 09:08 AM

This is completely it, case closed. Staring and looking are not the same thing, they are two different words for a reason. No one cares if you look at anything. People care if you stare at a lot of things, whether its a hot chick or a deformed person or someone who just busted ass and is really embarrassed. Staring is not nice, looking is normal. Checking out a woman does not have to be staring, and if you are doing it that way, just stop. note: sry if this posts a couple times, internet being w…

No one cares if you look, people care if you stare. Big difference. Even in a completely non-sexual manner, staring can make people uncomfortable. For example, staring at someone with a physical deformity or who just had an embarrassing accident. It's just kind of rude and inconsiderate, whether we're talking about hot chicks or deformed people. Just looking at a hot member of the opposite sex, on the other hand, is what everyone does everyday. Checking people out is common as fuck and totally n…

It's not completely ridiculous for a guy to be a feminist, but when he is trying to apologize on behalf of his entire gender for something he knows damn well he does all the time, I'm pretty much inclined to agree with you: these types of dudes are just fucked in the head.
/r/MensRights13/03/13 08:52 AM

The post is obviously bullshit trite, but I think there is a significant difference between checking someone out and staring at them. For instance, you can stare at someone with only 1 arm or 1 leg and make them feel very uncomfortable. That's got little to do with sex or attraction or anything like that. So i think staring down anyone is kind of rude and unacceptable. but I also don't think checking out a girl is the same thing as just staring them down. Taking a few seconds to admire the shape…

Probably because it's not incredibly insightful and has been repeated 10000 times and is literally not teaching anyone anything new or useful. It's the kind of comment that takes credit away from the entire subreddit, it's just nothing close to substantial. Just a guess though, i'm usually far too lazy to actually downvote anything myself.

You gotta realize there are just as many women as guys who look at a post like this and think "that's fucking stupid." Don't judge all women off of the dumb srs shit on reddit, that's just silly.

Is staring at someone and checking someone out the same thing though? I feel like one implies some amout of subtlety and is generally an interaction between the sexes. Staring is just kind of rude in general though, carrying the connotation of staring so long or forcefully that discomfort is made. Like the way someone might stare at a guy with only 1 arm or leg for way too fucking long. I think staring at people in general is rude and unacceptable, but checking a girl out is not exactly the same…

Eh, that last part was just low and not really relevant. Plenty of dudes are raised without dads that don't turn out to be asskissing white knights.

Staring can be pretty uncomfortable and creepy sure, but I think staring at someone and checking someone out aren't really the same things. Men have always and will always check out attractive women, it's literally in our nature. But to me there is a line between checking out an attractive woman and staring at her so long or obviously that it draws unwanted attention. To me there's a big difference.
