The way I see it, parental leave in our current culture would result in dads being closer to their kids on some level, but likely mainly will make it easier for women to have kids alone without the financial dependence on a man (so sort of a financial redistribution from working people to stay at home moms). Since women can stay at home and not need to rely on someone for money, it could make it easier for women to have kids earlier, not sure what impact it will have on men overall. I do support…

The only type of “emotional labor” that makes any sense is when a person has to regulate their natural emotions for a job, like being in sales or client facing roles, or needing to act calm in a software demo even though you are stressed. I feel like since there are so few homeless women, people help them more when they can (especially if they are young). So many homeless men that most people don’t have much empathy. I guess there’s also the idea that if the man is homeless it’s because of his irresponsibility, whereas it’s not the same reaction for homeless women

Well men are probably more confident about what they are qualified for, so maybe that’s why. There is evidence that men are more confident of their skills than women, so i do expect men to be more ambitious in their application process. There may well be something to this though, I do think in certain industries at certain levels, women have a statistical edge all else being equal due to diversity pressures

It’s more about pointing to a double standard. We understand that going into dangerous jobs is both based on taking more risk and needing to earn money with the skills you have. The prevalence of men isn’t due to unfairness against women. So it’s hypocritical to point to the high prevalence of men in tech or engineering as unfair when the same isn’t true of mining
