I got to this link from checking out r/writing via maximuspryme's advice and seeing another interview with ira glass on the front page. This link was posted in the comments section there and I was about to post it until I saw you had already got to it. :P

That's basically what the article said though, the odds are in a man's favor (except in the engineering department).

I find myself having similar problems, I work as a researcher so my work is fairly solitary except occasionally talking to other researchers to collaborate (which actually makes my conversational abilities worse, unless the people like randomly talking about microfabrication procedures!). I like the idea of having a secondary reason to talk with people either it being for an extra job or a club (via meetup.com or something) of some kind that way you aren't talking to people for the sake of talki…

I think it is a cool responsibility to have. Think about it, there are so many movies out today where the guy has to go through outrageous shit to get to/impress a girl. It is all about the Hero's Journey, where our sexual drive is our call to adventure and we grow through our struggles along the way.

Jason Segel: Jesus is just alright with me! Anyway, yeah, I think a lot of people come from your situation (myself being one). Just look around the internet for material, see what methods and thought processes work best for you (there are many different gurus with many different outlooks). But remember the overall theme of PUA teaching is to get you to be the man you want to be, whatever you learn should reflect that goal.

seduction in practice is a game of id, not of superego. His lesson there is probably a bit of hyperbole, but I think he wanted to get the point across that you should go based on your gut and feeling rather than over-thinking.

Good advise, I am now trying to get into the habit of one approach a day, and starting seems to be the hardest part IMO.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
