Thats why I'd prefer to get "married" in spirit, but not legally. This doesn't always help you and can, in certain jurisdictions, screw you entirely if you "present as married" to society. Certain laws / jurisdictions do not make a distinction between "presenting as married" and "actually married" simply considering both situations, and all of the legal ramifications of such, as married for legal purposes.

In context, isn't Gatsby the beta? He throws parties so that, perhaps, his oneitis from before the war will see how great he is now that he's rich too and will want to be with him. In fact, every action he takes in the novel is in furtherance of this sole objective: to win Daisy back. Classic literature? Yes. Abundance mentality? No. Inspiring example? No. Not particularly.

Are you suggesting that the girl scouts as a group doesn't have enough agency to change the curriculum of their program? Or that individual troops couldn't band together for reform? Why can't Girl Scouts make changes to their program, whereby they add camping, hiking, fire building (etc) into their program? Nothing is stopping them from making changes. I think his point was that cash tips aren't tracked by the government. He's wrong in that if he got audited, and the irs saw a trail of cash deposits on his bank statements that wasn't reported he would go to jail. The business itself probably doesn't track cash tips that are left for, or given to the bartender. Taking those cash tips wouldn't be consider taking "income" from the business itself.
