Yeah my parents divorced and keep things cordial for me and my sister. Having access to both of my parents meant that even though they weren't together anymore I didn't lose a parent to selfish pettiness. It actually helped me realize that I should try this in my own relationships and I always try to follow their example.
I think the issue would be that if it wasn't mandatory, then you'd have to ask for it to be done. If that's the case then most dudes wouldn't ask because then the whole "you don't trust me" comes into play and nobody would do it. So back to square one.
