My daughter is in the same place you are. It takes a lot of faith to stay strong in convictions that seem to be working against you in finding a spouse. God will honor your obedience in some way.

How does a 20-something woman with her life in good order still seem like she’d want a man in her life? Seems like young men prefer needy women.

I hope it works out for you! Sounds like a great plan. I think it’s very smart to become less geographically isolated the older we get. Especially when children move away, you want to be accessible for them to travel home and to have more possibilities for friendships in the community when there aren’t so many people around home anymore. I live in Amish county in the US, so it’s suburban/rural. We are Mennonite. If you move to an area with some Mennonite churches, maybe they would have some ladi…

Do you have any lady friends at church, or can you find an area church that has a group for ladies of all ages during the week? Many of my friends are from these two sources, and it’s great being on the same page with beliefs and an interest in home and family. Are there any farm ladies you can seek out who stay at home and aren’t so rough? My church has a number of farm families, and these ladies are the best. They work hard, raise their kids, love their husbands, and are often a great example …

We’ve been married for 30 years. We merged finances when we married. We didn’t bring any debt to the marriage, and he had a bit of money saved. Initially we did all our finances together, literally sitting at the table and writing out each check to pay bills (no computers back in the day)! Once we had kids and I stayed home with them and sometimes worked at night, everything became more complicated. And then my husband became self-employed, which increased the financial paperwork by a lot and ma…

I know, not glamorous, but useful. We got some as a wedding gift that went on a little stand. They were great and lasted us about 20 years.

And I’ve always wondered...why doesn’t it seem to work out when a high value SMV/RMV woman is genuinely interested in a man who is all she wants but would generally be considered to be a much lower SMV/RMV than she is?

My husband is very alpha, very driven, and, as we are Christian, is very serious about his responsibility as the head of our home. However, he has said the same thing to me of “putting him in his place” in the sense of not backing down when I know I’m right and not being cowed if we have an argument. It’s kind of the “iron sharpens iron” of Proverbs. I know the rpmen often idealize a quiet woman with few opinions, but my husband doesn’t want that. He delegates a lot to me, since he’s busy suppor…

When I worked full time in a very male-dominated workplace after I was married, I got along very well with my office mates, but we weren’t friends outside of work. But strictly socially, my husband and I don’t have opposite-sex friends. We have couple friends and we each have a few close friends of our own gender, but we don’t really even have much time to spend with people outside our family. We’re in our 50s in a conservative area, and married people of our age just don’t have opposite-sex fri…

You sound very cute. One mom I see when I pick up my son has pretty hair but often has it pulled up with a colorful headband or scarf. That would add some style to a quick bun or ponytail without taking a lot of time.

My daughter is in a very similar place right now. She’s always wiped out after work, too. Some slightly older people at her job said they were like that right after they started working full time too, but it gets better. My daughter really wants to be a wife and mom too, but that’s years away, She has found some volunteer outlets that fill her time. Could you find a place to volunteer that would allow you to care for people? Living alone is a great time to work on your cooking skills, too, since…

Don’t get me started on daycare. When my husband started working for himself, we needed my income until he got going. I worked full time at night so our kids could stay out of daycare. It was exhausting, but it worked out well.

My husband had a front-row seat for my family’s shitshow, because we started dating at 15. Even though he knew how it was at that point on, we didn’t really talk about my actual childhood issues until we were married and having problems with communication, trust, and my insecurities. He’s smart and had some child psychology when he earned a teaching degree, so he was understanding and able to help me sort through what had happened and the impact it made on me. I think as a relationship develops,…

This is good advice. I hope you find your forever man, and soon, but if not, what will you do then? Go full time, find a way to advance at the nursing home or somewhere else, and save as much as you can. Working and saving now will give you options and can help buy a home and/or fund the transition from career to staying home. I agree too that a good man is going to value the work ethic of working full-time because you can.

They also, IMO, look ridiculous when you wear them over nothing at all, but my husband likes it. We were on vacation with just our youngest son, and he and dad went to “pick a present for mommy.” The little guy was dancing with excitement as I opened it, and my husband whispered, “I’ll have to see it with nothing under it to see if I really like it on you.” So there’s that.

So nice! When I was in college and had no money for clothes, my now-husband would take me shopping occasionally, especially when I needed something for a special event or job interviews. You also get his input about what he thinks looks nice, which is huge. You sound like you have a lot of good qualities to work with, so I hope you have fun and success as you expand your styles!

Your post was fine. I intended to amplify what you’d said and add a few other words/concepts I’ve noticed that would definitely appeal to the right guys and turn off the ones that would be a waste of OP’s time. Hopefully I’m not derailing by saying that I’ve seen some red pill men who seem to think that women should not be college educated, should never have had a real job, and who seem to prefer women who are very dependent because they don’t have much in the way of life experience. As much as …

Absolutely the wrong guys will be put off by “loaded” words, and that’s a good thing. If someone is offended about “traditional” or “family,” he’s not who you want. If he sees “homemaker” and reads “gold digger,” then good riddance. Another type I think you’d probably want to weed out are the kinds who think that women who attended college and have a degree are liberal, slutty, only career-minded, or selfish. Be completely honest about who you are, what you’ve accomplished, and what you want, an…

That wouldn’t fly at our house—it would be taken as a lack of planning or not caring to do things “right.” YMMV, and I hope it does. If it were just the kids and I one evening, sure.

Funny thing about factories. I worked in a manufacturing environment before we had our kids, and I interacted with men at all levels. Competence and confidence can make a man very attractive.

I know what you mean about Tinder. My son is marrying a woman he met on Tinder. They both attended the same urban university but in different schools, so they wouldn’t have met otherwise. But they tell people they met at college so they don’t have to say Tinder.

I did his makeup. :) When I went to a new school in 7th grade, I kept seeing this big, handsome guy in the halls who I thought must be a teacher. Turns out he was an 8th grader. Sooo...I’d see him around again when I got to the high school. In the spring of my 9th grade year, I signed up to do makeup for the musical, which was “Guys and Dolls.” In order to have some convincing gangster types, the music department recruited some large football players for those parts. This guy was one of them. Wh…

That’s good you can meet new people when you’re out. Sometimes the field of known people and the people they know doesn’t yield many possibilities. I think being alone helps a lot with men approaching, as you said.

I see that happening a lot to my daughter and her other recent college grad friends. There’s nothing overtly wrong with them, but I guess there are reasons why men don’t want them. I assume by your name it worked out with one person. How did that come about for you?

Well said. After years of staying together through all the ups and downs and pulling together to make things work for our family, there a bond that is hard to break and nearly impossible to replace. A few extra pounds, some wrinkles, hair loss or even a life-altering illness or injury doesn’t matter when you need each other’s presence and have built a life together.

It sucks, but when it keeps coming up, you’ll have to continue to address whatever it is until he has closure. Try not to freak out, shut down, or run away. Keep reminding yourself that you’re on the same team and that you each want what’s best for the other and the relationship (assuming that you believe this is true). Find out what’s bothering him. If it’s your fault, humble yourself, take responsibility, and figure out together what you can do to make the situation better. If you aren’t on th…

I agree completely. I’m old, and this thing where a man and a woman say they are “best friends” is strange to me. We had mixed friend groups, but almost always the closest friends were of the same gender. I get that there are some male-female friends who are more like siblings from childhood, and there’s nothing sexual there. But when you see it with older people who may be involved with or married to others, it just seems very weird. What do they have in common? It does seem disrespectful.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. I still have my moments after 30 years where I have to stop and think stuff like: will this be helpful or annoying? Is this the right time? Is my tone going to be an issue? Finally learning to talk a little less... And your sabbath idea is a great one, resting and reserving the time for pleasant family activities. It seems like the calm and positive feelings the sabbath creates can reduce the number of “heat of the moment” occasions to say something that gets an ar…

I think this is why, sometimes, you see a guy with options who decides on a girl who might not be the “best” of his choices to everyone else. But she’s the one who put herself out there and took the risk of being vulnerable.

Thanks! I saw that also and read it earlier today. That did really help illustrate the concept. I think sometimes women (and maybe men too, I don’t know) try to act cool or aloof so as not to appear desperate or needy. But that often seems to be perceived as a lack of interest. So to convey “I really like you” with words, expressions, and actions is endearing to the right person.

Everything is coming out! We are keeping the same size/shape, but pretty much replacing everything. We did a little cosmetic work to the kitchen when we moved in 20-some years ago, but this will remove all traces of my husband’s grandmother’s early 1960s redo. I’m going for something that’s a better fit for our 1920s home. Very excited!

After enjoying coffee and scoffing at the news with my husband, as we begin most days, I got our youngest off to school, since it’s now a snow make-up day and not a holiday. Then I briefly visited with our oldest—he was here to go to a business meeting with my husband. Throughout the morning I enjoyed receiving pics from my daughter who is on a cruise with one of her friends. And finally, I have chosen and secured everything I need to handle for our kitchen renovation coming up in a few weeks. W…

Something I saw with a family member living with her boyfriend (before they eventually did get engaged and married) is that it can add a lot of stress if the couple’s families aren’t on board with the arrangement. Maybe living with the person helps you vet him better before you decide to commit, but it might negatively affect the support system you may want or need, especially if you are young. Even though things are fine now with my relative, there are some lingering dynamics in the extended fa…

I’m 53, and I sympathize with the acne situation. In my case, however, it was true that the upside of a youth of oily, acne-prone skin is a delayed onset of wrinkles. I’m just starting to get some fine lines. Moisturizers with actual moisturizing ingredients are a totally new thing to me! I’ve found that classic, not trendy, clothing helps you look put-together but also age appropriate as you get older. I’m glad you asked this, OP, because I’ve had trouble visualizing vulnerability when it’s been brought up on other posts here. How does a woman show vulnerability when she basically leads a charmed life and is cheerful, productive, and happy with herself and her life, except for her lack of a SO? I’m thinking my daughter might examine herself in this regard, and see if this is why no one actually falls for her. She might also be at a disadvantage with this, because we come from a cultural/religi…

I just helped my 23-y-o daughter through a move to a new area, and she has never dated. She has friends in the general area, but no one outside of work that she’s able to see all the time. She was used to roommates but was living alone. It was hard at first to do everything alone, because she’s a very social person. But she pushed herself, and now she’s really happy with her life. My husband does most of the talking, and I don’t really mind. I think sometimes he uses this time to organize his thoughts by speaking them aloud. He supports us very well with the complex transactions he does, so I feel like my listening helps him. Because I’m not in his field, I don’t have much to add. But that isn’t what he’s looking for, unless he wants my input on etiquette or grammar. (What my husband finds actually boring is stupid chatter about people he doesn’t know or things he doesn’t…

I tend to agree, and so does my husband. However, I asked about this on a RP blog a while ago, and most of the responses were things like: she’s probably ugly, she sounds like she wants to be a man, what does she need a man for? So it seems like there’s not a lot of men who share her beliefs and convictions who’d actually want a wife like her.

We’re in the Mid-Atlantic region. She’s moved to just outside a major city. We are from a suburban/rural small town. Seems like living in the South would give more of the type she likes, I agree. She found a church she really likes and is starting to get more involved. But as those things seem to go, most of the single people are women. I’m thinking she might just suck it up and try online dating the longer this goes without meeting anyone.
