I don't follow COTWA as much as I probably should. I do remember a few years after dealing with my own false accusation, coming across the old site on blogspot. Seriously, I wish it had been around a few years sooner. It's incredibly informative and is in no way a "hate" site. Just wanted to personally say thanks for keeping that site going for so long.

Hello John, I, too, am a father. I also dealt with accusations aimed to ruin me, my kids, my family. I bounced back from it, a little worse for wear maybe, but I have custody of my kids. I moved on and married a very good woman who is supportive and understanding in a way that seems all too rare these days. I grew up with a feminist mother in academia, and I rejected many of the things she tried to impart on me and much of feminist theory, but it was my dealings with the courts later in life tha…

This won't be difficult to debunk. You say that women have equal power to men No I didn't. I said that women have power that they deny they have. This is not the same as saying women have equal power to men or in all the same areas men have it. Additionally, while you focus on the chivalrous aspect of masculinity, the stoic defender aspect of masculinity, you completely neglect to mention the more destructive aspects of masculinity (not of men, but of masculinity as a concept). It was neglected …

One of the ways that's been discussed in determining whether something is sexist or not, is to remove any mention of sex and gender and replace them with mentions of race. If it then sounds racist, you can be pretty sure it's sexist in its original form. The /s is meant to be implied at the end of /u/thonkerl 's comment.

You're both wrong. It says that until literally no women experience at the hands of men (they're apparently okay with female on female violence), then it is men's responsibility to end it. They're not saying every man is or perpetrates , but they are laying the responsibility on all men. Has nothing to do with men invalidating women's experience, and everything to do with men's responsibility. Which is still stupid, whether they insinuated all men are rapists or not.

And yet statistically speaking, men are most at risk of being victimized by random acts of violence, and women are more likely to be raped by someone they know than a stranger on the street. I don't walk around in fear of getting my ass whooped or killed even though it's more likely to happen to me, so why are women walking around terrified all the time? How much of this perception in the general female population is a result of being told to be afraid, as opposed to a perception that arises fro…

EDIT: Scratch that, I misread the thread. Revising. Traditional feminism was less concerned with gender and more concerned with demonstratively institutional incidences of discrimination against women, or where women did not have specific rights on par with men. It wasn't until the 2nd wave adopted Marxist ideas that the focus began shifting towards gender in the way you see it today. That aspect hasn't been forgotten. On the contrary, it's behind much of mainstream feminism. Equity feminists la…

When it comes to sex, some people can take it or leave it, some can't live without it, and others are in between. You can absolutely live without sex. People can and have lived without many things. Sex is not water, you will not die without it. The issue with people who feel that they can't go without sex is understanding why they feel that way. There are strong biological underpinnings that drive sexual desire, and yet those people will not literally die without it. It's worth pointing out the …

I guess I'm saying is how readily digestible are these concepts in your experience when talking to feminist or the uninitiated on the subject? Not easily digestible at all. The flip side of masculinity, femininity, is more often (not always) concerned with the self. This is why when blanket statements are used when talking about generalized trends, it's much more acceptable and common to find individual women providing anecdotal counterarguments. Everyone believes their situation is unique, and …

I don't think marriage gives anyone a right to rape someone, but I'm also not convinced specific laws in addition to what's on the books concerning rape are helpful at all. The argument against criminalizing marital rape often stems from an understanding of marriage that is often antiquated and more likely to align with groups that are not associated specifically with MRAs. Under that view it is typically held that neither party, husband or wife, can deny attention to their partner's needs, sexu…

Favoring of male children in India and China (Male privilege) Careful with this one. A very large reason why male babies are preferred is because of their obligation to family and society. To put it another way, male babies are preferred because of how they are viewed to benefit others, not themselves. Men provide for families, and so families that wish to be provided for want male babies. This borders on exploitative. It's beginning to backfire beautifully and will continue to do so, but depend…

The problem I see with emasculating feminism is that feminism requires traditional masculinity as a driving force to accomplish its goals. How can it be that a movement is actually dependent on the system of which it contends to demolish? Consider the issues and the manner in which they address them. Many of the issues are tackled by emotional appeals. This in of itself is not wrong, and in fact is extremely effective. But think for a minute: Why is it acceptable and more importantly, why is it …

...Okay. Why, exactly? There's literally no evidence that he posted on MRA forums. Can you find his posts in this sub? How about comments on AVFM? We had zero contact with Elliot Rodger. Um, I think the main narrative of my post was that you should be voicing your struggles, but that you should be doing so within the context of understanding the feminists you so vehemently disagree with. Men's issues need not and should not be defined solely by a feminist narrative. Period. So no, we should not …

I watched the videos. I took a look at the things Rodger was saying in MRA forums and the like. Wrong. How can you pretend to fight for equality of the sexes when you get so upset that women are voicing their own struggles? How can feminists pretend to fight for equality of the sexes when they get so upset that men are voicing their own struggles? I guarantee that the same women with whom you disagree with on Twitter would be glad to hear how you have been unfairly treated, if only you say first…

This blog is read by many in the men's rights community who are largely sympathetic to its message since the victims of wrongful accusations are overwhelmingly (but not entirely) male. I've never heard of a case going the distance where a female was accused of rape who was found not guilty, and then proven to have been the victim of a false accusation. I know that false accusations of child abuse are made, which can include sexual abuse, but I've never heard a case where an adult male falsely ac…

If they're posting that in response to the Rodger incident, then they're using it to conflate two separate but related issues. By the numbers, mass killings account for a very small number of the total deaths by violence in the US. Mass murderers typically do not have a casual relationship with their victims. Professional, working, or academic relationship maybe. But not a personal relationship. If you're a victim of a mass murder, chances are extremely high that you were killed by a stranger. H…

MRAs are not a legally recognized entity, and I don't see how you can even get legal standing as a social movement. That's like Christianity, not just a particular Christian or specific church or organization, suing Atheism. If these people name a particular person or entity as being directly responsible, then maybe that entity or those individuals can give it a shot. It's pretty hard to go for defamation or slander or anything like it in the States even when dealing with 2 individuals and I bri…

While I don't doubt there are some legitimate woman hating misogynists among us flying under the radar, I don't think this meme does anything except confuse the definition of misogyny in the reader, and then suggest MRAs as a whole are misogynists. I don't think misogynists need a pat on the back for not killing anyone, or sympathy for being blamed for it. The non-misogynist majority got the blame as well.

Sure he hated women, as well as men and a whole bunch of other stuff. He hated himself most of all, and from that appears to have bred extreme narcissism as a defensive response. The thing with thoughts and feelings, especially in the mentally ill, is that they are distorted and irrational. Anxiety is basically an irrational response to a situation. Depression typically carries with it distorted and irrational thoughts. Body image disorders are another good example of distorted and irrational th…

Just want to point out that after recognizing these kinds of problems, the next step needs to be asking WHY these problems exist the way they do in/for men, and not immediately jumping around looking for a fix else we're just focusing on symptoms and not working to eliminate problems. I mean really sitting down and taking the time to give it serious thought and discussion. This is something feminism has been historically notorious for not doing. Not enough female STEM grads? It's a quote by Twain which essentially means that juicy gossip or lies travel faster than the mundane truth. Connection being, people blaming the Men's Rights Movement for the shooting that occurred is more juicy and controversial than the truth, and that "gossip" has already made the rounds and back while the truth has not.

Yeah, as always research has it's limits, however there is an exciting study...<truncated to stay under 10k char limit> See this is kind of the problem I was eluding to. There's been a push to expand the definition of rape to include some really ridiculous scenarios, almost uniquely to the detriment of men. "Taking advantage of" is such an incredibly subjective statement that it completely blurs the line of what the general consensus of rape is. Taking non-rape sexual assaults and conflating the…

Associations. Mostly the fear and anger caused by this event lead me to discover "incels" and the like, who commonly associate with MRA. Incorrectly associate a negative stereotype as being true, and then use that to justify fear of being in association. There was a thread just a few days back addressing this. The "loser male", "sexless virgin", and how ridiculous it is when taking into account the number of issues the MRM covers that is geared specifically to men who are obviously not involunta…

Well I'm happily married so I don't know if I fit in that well with the MGTOW crowd, although I understand their position. I'm all for men valuing themselves outside of traditional gender roles and rejecting their value as being dependent on their utility to society and women. I don't feel like having a wife makes me a man, or that my manhood derives from having women in my life even though I have one. I guess in that way I'd agree with much of the philosophy behind MGTOW but I'm not active in t…

I just posted a comment in the other Laci Green thread. She was throwing facts up in her video that were blatantly false and misleading, and I pointed it out. She's notorious for stating something true or skewering facts to further prove a point, and then making that point and running with it in a completely wrong direction. False equivalencies abound. Right here is an example of exactly that. True: The APA does state that violence perpetrated by the mentally ill is low. The rub: This includes a…

Laci Green? Really? She's like the walking, talking, embodiment of the hypocrisy that is modern feminism. She peered her head into masculinity just far enough to tie it into the misogyny narrative and backed out. Let's start here: "There have been 71 mass murders in the US since 1982, and 70 of them we carried out by men. FBI data puts it at 172 mass murders between 2006 and 2011 alone with a significant error rate, about 1 every 2 weeks with 6% being women. What did she get right? The high male…

Aileen Wuornos I thought about bringing it up myself, then backed out after considering how easy it would be for them to paint her the victim of abuses, and because of the type of men she killed. Then I thought, they actually made a fucking movie about her, and painting her as a victim of abuse and as a product of abuse is pandering to mental health in a way that they refuse to afford Rodger. About 25 years ago Marc Lepine killed 14 women at an engineering school in Montreal. He left a note blaming feminism for ruining his life, and also wrote a list of feminist women he intended to kill (I don't think any of the women he killed were on the list. Canadian readers who remember could probably clear that up.) What happened afterwards is that feminists pointed to the shooting as an example of pervasive violence against women in society. What they didn't do was paint him as an MRA so far …

It's true, inside a feminist box there are only two boxes. One marked feminist, the other marked misogynist. However, to the side of the feminist box is another box labeled reality. In that box there are many other boxes. Those in the feminist box can't see what's inside it, and they can't even see outside the feminist box. All this hoodie says is, "I'm in my own little box, separate from reality." Entendre'd all up in here.

Presuming that gender equality actually is, in fact, the normative goal of feminism. How hard did your tongue slap the inside of your cheek? But yeah, "bitch", "cunt", "man-hating", are all more common than "lesbian" these days. Was more common half a century ago when there actually was a couple legitimate, larger, and more influential factions of feminism centered around lesbians and exclusive to lesbians.

The anti-male, anti-MRA's and feminists say the MRA's are loser men who cant get laid. You should take this as being equivalent to "you can't have me" as opposed to "you have literally never been laid and will literally never get laid", and the reason behind it is included in my edit. Which is why, as I stated, as a counter-argument pointing out issues MRAs are passionate about is reasonable, but stopping at that is kind of missing the point. Well as a father it's a bit different, or rather I have reasons for being involved that don't immediately affect men who are not fathers or married. But it's also true that there are issues that affect men that are not fathers, not married, and who are not straight. The burden to involuntarily commit is actually kind of high. If you're not a legitimate danger to yourself or others, and if you can take care of yourself then there isn't much they can do. It's easy to hide certain mental afflictions if you want to avoid being institutionalized. Do you feel like hurting yourself or others? Answer no. I can't be happy or complete without women, I've done the things and have the things women want, so the fact women don't want me is an injustice. It's one of those subjective things that's wide open to interpretation and you're never going to get an objective answer to your question. For instance, patriarchy theory is/was essentially a radical feminist idea. Transphobic and homophobic elements of feminism are often considered radical, at the same time certain lesbian groups and influences were considered radical in the 50s and 60s which created a schism in the movement around that era. No, feminism has taken credit for many awesome accomplishments. Feel free to offer particulars and how feminism exclusively should be credited for them though. I'm bored, so since plasmatorture never replied I'll go ahead and throw one out there just to get some dialogue going. I do not get the women nor the judges who ruled in her favor. It's actually an accurate application of the law, which is the bigger issue. I have experience dealing with Fairfax, and sadly this doesn't surprise me in the least. Northern VA has this sort of liberal vibe going on relative to the rest of the state, but the courts are very much still stuck in the south, very big on traditional family values and the women know this. There's nothing too blatantly on the books that is explicitly anti-fathers, but the placing women(especially mothers) on a pedestal mentality permeates every aspect of the system. Dangerous mothers and destr…

Do you want to go at Men's Human Rights like MLK, or Malcolm X? I've made this comparison before. MLK and Malcolm were two sides of the same coin, each playing a role in a much bigger picture. We would benefit from playing the role most effective on any given issue, in any given situation. Unfortunately, male issues are incredibly resistant to empathetic appeals. To many, if not most, the idea that men are disadvantaged in any way (especially in ways that actually matter) is completely alien. It…

TROs do not require the alleged abuser to be present, so if one has been filed he will typically be served with it and given notice of a court date where the permanent restraining order will be heard. If she did file for and was granted a TRO, your husband needs to be at the hearing for the protective order which is usually in 1 or 2 weeks. Hire a court reporter and get what you can out of her. If the prot order is entered, your husband and attorney should consider appealing it, the number of ti…

I disagree. I would caution against seeking justice through civil action. He's not been convicted of a crime, but he has also not been found innocent of one either. Typically, without an admission of guilt or redaction of an allegation, and absent the case being picked up by the local DA, these cases tend to stay open indefinitely. That means at anytime LEO and/or the DA can pursue this case for any reason. This is important to remember, because a civil suit would essentially allow a criminal ca…

Also, you should take into account that men are more likely to be the breadwinners in the family, and therefore exposed to the child more than a mother would. Come again? Usually people who dispute this claim hark on about how women are exposed to children more than men, and it is that which explains the higher occurrence of child abuse perpetrated by women. Since when have breadwinners/men spent more time with children than women? I must have missed the memo.

And as an attorney, you should be aware of how plea deals are used to leverage cases. Plea deals are largely unilateral. It's not like a business deal where two sides come together to reach a mutually agreeable outcome, no. Instead, the state is typically trying to avoid taking a case to court while also guaranteeing some amount of "justice" in the form of jail time and/or fines. The defendant is typically trying to avoid jail, fines, and attorney fees. The defendant stands to lose their freedom…

Whining, complaining and lying in order to gain sympathy is NOT a privilege. Anyone, literally ANYONE can do it. Sure, anyone can do it. Receiving support is an entirely different matter, one which you would have to be willingly ignorant not to see. If you cannot understand that as a general rule men do not receive support, and that THAT is one of the reasons why the MRM exists, then I don't know what else to tell you. Perhaps you don't know what "double standard" means, but you aren't using it …

No need. She royally screwed the pooch in late 2010 and I have custody of my son. Moved to Sacramento and had our case transferred out here as well. Don't have to deal with Fairfax anymore except to visit family. Last I was in Fairfax dealing with that crap they were renovating their mall-sized courthouse and supermax county jail. For one of the richest counties in the country, they sure do like to blow their money on fancy police equipment and gargantuan courts. Me thinks busting potheads and s…

I actually have experience dealing with Fairfax in a situation somewhat similar. Went to pick up my son at the scheduled time, my ex is pissed about something from work, starts following me down the stairs of her apartment building and into the parking lot. Basically says she's going to call the police because I'm taking my kid without his second jacket on, even though it was ~65 degrees out and he already had a hoodie. I just ignore her and put my kid in his car seat and hop in the car. As I'm …

The content is grating for the same reasons the headline is. They are both of little relevance to MR, the link being so tenuous it threatens to not exist. How does the MRM expect to be taken seriously about the victimization of men when they're seen to be fighting on the side of rampant homophobes and a "culture of victimization"? The title is grating because it's sensationalist. The topic of the story, what actually happened not so much, but the reaction it received has been. How in the world y…

Doubtful. People's kneejerk upvote was based on the implication in the title that a facet of feminism was at play here. This sub sees much more in the way of anti-feminist behavior than anti-gay.

The headline may be grating, but the content is not, which is another topic altogether. Your post raised issue with the content not the title, dismissed relevancy on the surface, and introduced race which is a non-issue in this story. I addressed every one of them, and now you're electing to move the goal posts. I don't feel strongly about the story either way, but in an effort to get people thinking and discussing issues that are more nuanced and require a bit more critical thought, provided an…

I'll bite. She's a woman lying about people "being mean" in order to garner attention and sympathy. This is an example of a privilege that women are blind to. Not the lying part, but the outpouring of support women generally receive when they appeal to emotion because they are women. They know that they get support(usually, generally speaking, etc.) by drawing attention to themselves, else women wouldn't do it. They just don't see it as a privilege or a double standard. Double that since this wom…

What does it actually mean for ADHD to exist? ... the only way it is a disorder is because medical professionals decide that a certain distance from the normal is now a medical problem. A mental disorder or psychiatric disorder is a mental or behavioral pattern or anomaly that causes distress or disability, and which is not developmentally or socially normative. You could argue that what's often presented is a developmental difference between boys and girls, and that what's often presented is so…

It's typically discretionary whether the presiding judge will allow it, and can be addressed in an appeals court at a later time if need be. Still, the exclusionary rule is designed with law enforcement in mind that is correct. Here's how such a case played out a few years ago in Pennsylvania. I'm also reminded of a case out of TX?, maybe 15-20 years ago at this point, where a family recorded interactions with their child and a school employee, I want to say it was a bus driver. Evidence is subm…

Well, you seem to be arguing against the actual laws regarding personhood based on a moral standing. This sets back women's rights and men's rights (as opposed to a humanist or egalitarian position aimed at rights for all), and the only group well known to step on the shoes of both groups would be traditionalists. I guess you're a special snowflake and are in your own unique pigeonhole all to oneself. Well OK then. If you can't be bothered to address a formulated response to that position withou…

Not a cop-out. If you extend personhood to unborn children it immediately makes every abortion a murder. We're not talking a moral stance here, we're talking full on legally recognized murder. Maybe you're OK with that because you don't believe in abortion on moral grounds. OK, well let's imagine you and your wife are pregnant, and she miscarries. The state steps in and says you and your wife are negligent in the death of a child. Just think of all the crazy ways they could spin a miscarriage as…

He took on custody with all that entails. She took the baby and ran away. He fought for custody to be returned. Except this is not how it happened. He did not have custody of the child in any way shape or form prior to her relocation to NY. He had no custodial rights because there was no child at that point in time. Therefore, he could not have had custody returned to him since he never had it to begin with. What he did was convince a NY court to find that she absconded with his child, which all…

Most likely they're including overdose deaths under accidental poisonings, which have seen a marked increase in the past decade. 38k+ overdose deaths in 2010, most of those accidental and in the 20-50yo range. Still, it isn't listed on the left hand side under top 15 causes of death. They don't list their source statistics, just that they pull data from various sources including the World Bank and CDC and they don't go into detail about how they're interpreting the data, so who knows?

I didn't agree with the tone of the article, but that line right there is definitely in line with a belief I've long held. What do you do, when you're life no longer revolves around ensuring you have your basic needs met? You fill it with other things that, which while may be important, are less important than day to day survival. We collectively kicked the crap out of much of what the natural world has thrown at us, much of it under this supposed and evil patriarchy system, much of it as a resu…

Whether you're guilty or not, the same advice applies: don't talk about anything, to anyone, without an attorney present. Not your friends, not the police, and certainly not a group of strangers online. Your info is a hop skip and subpoena away, and if you've changed your story at all or omitted something during questioning then you've just opened yourself up to further scrutiny. You don't ever talk about matters relating to an on-going investigation, for any offense, ever, and it is almost guar…

Martin needed Malcom and Panthers, and vis-a-vis. As it turns out, giving the public the choice of the carrot or the stick works. We sorely need a uniting figure, because right now we're getting press for a lot of the wrong reasons. There has to be a uniting message to go along with the inflammatory tactics. It's understandable AVFM, and Elam in particular, are a necessity. They play a role, certainly, but it's only one side of the coin and we need both.

No. I'm saying that the models used to predict the weather are only as accurate as our understanding of the underlying data, which is miraculously what I explicitly stated... in the very same sentence you quoted. This explains why, after extensively studying weather patterns for decades and armed with ever more powerful computers, we still cannot accurately predict the weather more than a few days out. The data points are immense. Taken to its extreme, you would need a reality simulator capable …

Economics is an example of attempting to mathematically quantify a behavioral science, which it is (even when people want to throw economics into social sciences, distanced from behavioral economics). Even in the absence of easily duplicatable models, the field still fails to provide falsifiable theories because it is in fact a field that is interested in how human actors interact, which at its core is a topic for neuroscience, chemistry beyond that, etc,. When you start trying to predict human …
