Should high value guys marry?I refute the idea though that everyone should always be more confident, more alpha, more optimistic, unless there is rigorous evidence why we tend to be too shy, too beta, too pessimistic. That is why I am here at TRP. | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 09:32 AM
Should high value guys marry?Your first explanation was my first reaction too. Stuck with old social norms. So, I just looked at those born in the late 1980's: 22, 23, 24, 25, etc. Nevertheless, those on good salaries were most likely to be married as well. Probably the latter explanation, as my friends moan: with a 9-to-5 type job and long hours, a steady girlfriend is just all too convenient. | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 09:29 AM
Should high value guys marry?I actually used 'overall life satisfaction.' The methods is a private interview: Individuals are asked to report how satisfied they are with their life in general on a scale of 0 to 10, in which 0 means completely dissatisfied and 10 means completely satisfied. While seemingly superficial and unreliable, there is a significant reliability for a person over time and high correlation with many other health, income, etc, events that would be expected. It is also a reasonable predictor at a very obj… | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 08:53 AM
Should high value guys marry?Great! I am afraid I will massively disappoint you, as this answer will not narrow it down for you - and the GSOEP data is not (conveniently) publicly available. a) which data variables do you have? The dataset is absolutely huge, and has hundreds of questions, it includes: • population and demography • education, training, and qualification • labor market and occupational dynamics • earnings, income and social security • housing • health • household production • basic orientation (preferences, … | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 08:42 AM
Should high value guys marry?I personally do not believe happiness is the purpose of life. I would rather be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 07:50 AM
Should high value guys marry?I completely empathise. When I said: Divorce actually increases happiness with no such immediate decrease to the baseline. Indeed, possibly evidence that many men are married who should not have gotten married. I meant: the situation married people find themselves in can be so bad that after the horrible experience of divorce men are relieved. Any other interpretation is a misunderstanding. The line before on marriage: There is indeed evidence that the additional happiness effect of marriage is … | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 07:39 AM
Should high value guys marry?Definitely a recommended read. Very thought provocative, I personally feel drawn to join this movement. A great narrative and recognises our empirical evidence for the intuition and sense of injustice is so far predominantly anecdotal: Sure our evidence was anecdotal, but when the cultural narrative maintains a counter position to you, it’s hard to find more than anecdotes. I agree it agreeable views are hard to find - in academia a pro-female bias is actually completely acceptable - and in marr… | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 07:11 AM
| -1 | Should high value guys marry?German feminist's ass An ad hominem attack. I am sorry if people had poor experiences and I believe myself there is systematic discrimination against men. This does not mean all people experience the same. Replies like this do not make me feel welcome in TRP. And I am saddened by this. These are arguments backed with statistics, slides 65, 66 fyi, I was hoping to add to the sensation with broad based data. edit: grammar and clarity | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 06:17 AM |
Should high value guys marry?I am just saying: those guys earning €1,000,000 a year are most likely to be married. A marriage with a 10/10 with control, a prenup and paternity testing should in my opinion make any person think for at least a second. Might be interesting to test the Tom Cruise elevator, i.e. simply re-marry a 25 year old 10/10 stunner once she gets 35. | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 06:07 AM
Should high value guys marry?Good suggestion. Unlikely from the data (German SOEP), but there are different sources for that. From sex, I do know for happiness the optimal amount is monotonously increasing (i.e. you can never have enough sex) and the optimal number of partners in the last 12 months is one (Blanchflower & Oswald, 2004, 'Money, Sex, & Happiness: An Empirical Study*'). Causality is a major issue ofcourse: do happy people have just one partner, or does having one partner makes you happy? Of course all very gene… | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 05:34 AM
Should high value guys marry? There is indeed evidence that the additional happiness effect of marriage is temporary and disappears after two years or so. Divorce actually increases happiness with no such immediate decrease to the baseline. Indeed, possibly evidence that many men are married who should not have gotten married. I shall try to check if the situation is different for men who can get women easily. Afraid there is no question in the German SOEP 'can you get women easily.' Would be happy to try a proxy for this (c… | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 05:04 AM
Should high value guys marry?Should do for what? Maximise your offspring: go to a sperm bank. Be happy? I really hope marriage is not the answer, but is it... A quick simple regression shows married men reporting being happier than those not married, controlling for education, age and income. The happiness effect is about that of having an additional income of about €75,000 or about 3.5 years of more education. Again a very simple regression. Causality would be presumptuous, indeed Stutzer & Frey (2004) show in their articl… | /r/TheRedPill | 30/07/13 04:50 AM
