Dude, you are trying to fight a battle that you possibly cant win. If your boss likes her but is aware of her shortcomings as an employee then you have no choice but to cover for her. Hit the bottomline, ask for one more person to be on your team to cover for the work that she isnt doing. Then give her things to work on that are least important and get her out of your hair.

My word of advice would be to document everything. If she says things like "“it’s important you don’t work too much so I don’t fall behind" and you have proof of that, it can be very handy. Keep all the documentation. I learnt this the hard way when my bitch-ass female manager (lets call her SK) started telling me things in one-on-one conversations that she would later deny.
