Fair enough, but the process is still legal according to Swedish law, and the reality of that is what Assange will have to adhere to.

Well, as it stands, the U.S have not laid charges against Assange, and thus, can't just have him extradited.

Naturally this part of the whole shebackle is.. unfortunate. But as it stands, the best course of action for Assange would be to face the charges in Sweden and beat them, without having to fear for being extradited. As such, his main reason for living on the embassy of Equador isn't that he fears the trial, but rather because he fears what the Swedish court of law most likely will have to do - extradite him to the U.S. EDIT: word

Of course, but if the allegations are so ridiculous as they are made out to be, they should be easy to beat - in court, in Sweden. The realisation that Assange most likely will be extradited and have to stand trial in the U.S is what prohibits the continuation of a legal trial.

This isn't a victory at all, per se. Everyone who questioned him before will still question him. Assange himself has said that as long as the Swedish government promises not to extradite him to the USA, he would be willing to face the charges in Sweden. The core of this case isn't about men's rights, and as so we should not applaud this.
