I'd love to see a link to another place that recommends specific tactics for handling negative comments -- e.g. agree and amplify. Buddhism and Stoicism come to mind. Perhaps not specifically "agree and amplify", but both philosophies deal with that sort of thing.

I love her books. I just turned 30 this year and gave birth to my daughter not long before that, and I've been using them as a guide to get myself together for this new phase of my life.

When my boyfriend and I lived in Minnesota, we took turns during the annual holiday drive to Indiana (his family) and Ohio (my family)... a 16-17 hour drive in total. We ended up moving to Indiana, and we still switch off for the five hour drive to Ohio. I almost miss that marathon drive from Minnesota, but now that we have a baby I'm thankful we moved slightly closer to family. It's absolutely reasonable! My husband and I are still adjusting to life with a newborn (four weeks old as of yesterday) and we still manage to carve out a night or two a week to have a glass of wine and just enjoy each other's presence in silence. It doesn't have to be elaborate or involve extensive planning.
