So for the sake of the kids, just be miserable for a decade or two?

It's selfish in the sense that he is concerned about himself, but he should be. Is it better to be together and miserable or apart and able to find what you really want in a partner?

Same dilemma. I talked about this with my therapist and his feeling was .. kids adapt. Look, we're not the very first people ever to want to divorce. If statistics are to be believed, it's around 50% of couples. If I stayed married and nothing changed in our relationship, I'd become more withdrawn and unhappy. That's a fact. I don't want my kids to see me that way. You know it's funny, if one of us cheated this would be a forgone conclusion. It'd be over. I've contemplated it, honestly, just to …

Listen. You can read all this advice and walk away with one decision or the other. But everyone's situation is different. Different people are involved, different lifestyles, kids are different. I would take all this advice, mine too, with a grain of salt. I know people who have split and regretted it. I know people who have split and it's the best decision they've ever made. It runs the gamut. My wife and I are in the same boat as you. I'm tired of the complete lack of intimacy. I'm tired of be…

I don't think so. In the same boat as you.

I'm initiating, because we're just not compatible and all intimacy in the relationship is gone (and has been for a long time.). I'm hoping to get a mediator. I don't know what this will look like in the end because I just started this process. She's taking it well so far, we're good at co-parenting so that's been our focus. We'll see what the future brings. I can't live with someone like this the rest of my days, I'll tell you that. She doesn't put in any effort in the romantic part of our relat…

Same with me friend, though my wife seems okay. It's awkward but not as bad as I'd feared tbh

I hear this. Sorry to hear about your parents. Both my parents are gone too, have been since I was in my late 20s. Man everyone has a story and cross they bare. I wish you good health and good fortune ahead, my friend.

I'll admit we do, so I'm sure I'll owe quite a bit.

I don't want to leave my home until we have all the agreements in place. I'm already living in our other room, which is also my home office. My friend said "hey it's like your practice studio apartment" 🤣🤣

Thanks spanky! That's what my therapist basically told me, too. And many in other places seem to think in the long run, it's better for kids to have 2 happy parents than a broken home. I hope things work out for you, too. Stay strong.

That does sound amazing, happy for you that you have that now! That's where I'm at. She has not, in many years, asked how my day was. I hurt my shoulder recently, and even went to physical therapy. Never asked me about it. Meanwhile I ask and hear about her day almost every day. Always asking how she is feeling. Notice when she's sad, then get scolded and admonished when I ask her if everything is okay. I wish she cared as much about me, as I did about her. At what point do we cross "this is jus…

Yea I understand that. Mine sleeps a lot. She may or may not have an autoimmune, or perhaps depressed. It's been a factor, but it's been this way for 10+ years. Sadly she doesn't play much with our daughter, only sometimes. On her phone a lot. Even when with our daughter, spends more than half that time letting her play by herself while on her phone. I make it a point not to be on my phone at all while my kids are near me. Don't want to send that message that it is more important than them.

Unless she tells me I'll never know. I just know for the last year, we've basically gone out of our way not to spend time together. We basically limit our discussions to the kids, sometimes work, sometimes politics. I feel like we share few if any common interests. We can't agree on a movie, we don't watch TV together, I like to go out and about she's a home body. Is what it is I guess.

I think at one time she did, but that definitely receded over time. But you're definitely spot on that some attraction and intimacy needs to be there. Without it we're just not a couple.

I'll be honest, I don't think it's possible. And I'm not sure, after all these years, that it's even what I want.

I hope it doesn't become a battle. Even after the letter, she took time to process, is nicer to me than usual (lol) and is now seeing her own therapist. We have a house together, and she doesn't make quite enough to afford it on her own. I'm hoping a mediator will help us move through this.
