I'm never getting married because I enjoy my career too much and I don't have the time nor patience for a spouse. There. A whole new category.

Actually, I'd say both are disadvantaged in different ways and rather than saying one side is taking advantage of the other, I think it would be far more helpful to look for sex equality solutions that benefit all.

Please provide link. Also, it shows the hiring practices and offered starting salary, which was the point I was trying to make. Also, the testing of a theory is a valid source. You can call it a game if you like. No one likes hard data that counters their belief systems. That's why we have religious people getting so upset about evolution.

I can prove that drinking too much is bad for a person. It causes [liver failure] (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000281.htm). However, your personal opinion doesn't count for anything. Also, I find your baseless assertions that women suffer from some kind of 'spinster-hood' more than men suffer from perpetual bachelorhood to be offensive towards both sexes. You are essentially implying that women are too weak to be left alone and men are so emotionally underdeveloped that it do…

Me to, though mostly engineers. In all fairness, I tend to mentally rank careers in order of the prestige that I feel should be assigned to them, not salary. The issue with the article is that there was no option for negotiation, it was based entirely off of fictional applications. None of the applicants bargained for salary, so employers stated what they'd be willing to offer, which over all favored men. Now the next bit is just pure conjecture, but if scientists, who we hold to be objective an…

Elevator-gate? I am unaware of this... (not that I don't believe you but as it seems to be common knowledge I'd love to know what it is). As for subjugation of women in western countries, I'd say gender and sex discrimination is probably equal now- both are being discriminated against pretty badly here in the U.S although I'd say female discrimination is more cultural/psychological while for men it tends to be more in the legal system (which does make it very hard on you guys, sorry 'bout that).…

r/mensrights, you are so kind about being open to debate, downvoting clear and polite questions. I like you. You'll go far. The tea party has openings. As for FuquanMcCain, thank you for that but I still don't see any citations or links. And I was more interested in hiring practices than salaries, but both are interesting.

So, first everyone here is upset that the definition is being changed and now we're using the new definition? Make up your mind, gentlemen.

It was my intention to point on the stunning hypocrisy on this subreddit, i.e "Woman are DV initiators and are strong enough to beat up men" in one thread and then "Women are physically weak and don't deserve equality" in the next. And yes, she was being a bitch and got what she deserved, no argument there. As for opening my own doors, I do. I open them for plenty of other people to, and it's the guys who say thank you the least.

Yes and thank you for the examples and your incredibly polite demeanor, but what about unintentionally discriminatory hiring practices like the link I provided?

Women do not earn more in the service industry, at least in my experience. If you'd like to offer a citation or appropriate link I'd be happy to re-evaluate that statement. As for upper level careers, here is an excellent example of hiring disparity and pay disparity. link

I think that it depends more on what culture you're in. In the neighborhood I grew up in and the schools I went to, if a woman talked shit other women would kick her ass.

Telling a kid not to do something is great, but will you really hold a kid accountable for this entire thing? She took the pictures- ground her for a week, explain the dangers of adults. Then prosecute and jail the fucker who took advantage of her.
/r/MensRights17/10/12 06:35 AM

If you read the article, you'll find she took the pictures and circulated them at 12.

I am a woman. I have been hit by women when it was decided that someone was acting like an ass. Though, I think my favorite fight was when a male classmate of mine decided throwing rocks at my head was a good way to deal with me kicking his ass in rugby. I think it depends more on where you grow up than your gender. Where I live in L.A, a girl talking shit will get her ass kicked.

Again, I'm incredibly sorry for what happened to you. Just know that there are bi-polar men and women who are in control of their disorder and completely despise people like her who give people like us a bad name. One of my finest friends is a rapid cycling bi-polar woman who's never committed physical violence in her life. Please find a support group or counseling if you haven't already. And I'm sorry that, because of your gender, your abuse was trivialized.

She was 12. Are we really going to hold all 12 year olds responsible for stupid decisions? Because in that case, in 7th grade Jared flashed his dick at me and, rather than let it go because it was over a decade ago, I'd like to press charges for harassment.
/r/MensRights17/10/12 05:07 AM

I would hardly try arguing with a true misandrist. Especially if you're a man. They would just point and scream. Now if they have a prejudice, you could possibly change their mind.

Perhaps not the hatred of, but the subjugation of women is taught in many countries. Probably why the word is being re-defined.

That's why I was requesting evidence, as I understood a claim had been made that men were more fit to lead. If that claim was not made, my apologies. If it was, then I stand by my request for evidence to support it.

I would absolutely believe this if the majority of times that sexist statements have been made, they were downvoted to oblivion or harshly replied to. That has not been my experience (though in all fairness, any personal experience is at best, biased even when we try not to be).
/r/MensRights17/10/12 04:46 AM

Fair enough. I was being silly by making the assumption that the statement Men are more suited to do chin ups isn't misogynist either. was meant to confer the belief that men are both stronger and better leaders. If I misinterpreted, my apologies.

I'm sorry that you had to deal with that. As I member of the bi-polar community, I wish she was locked up till she learned what most of us do- we don't go off our fucking meds if it could fuck someone else's life up. She gives all of us nut-cases with a handle on our issues a bad name.

Can you, and every other guy who's replied to this in order to say that women can physically hurt men keep saying this, please? I love that you're speaking up about this. I would also love to see it in the reply column of so many of the statements I find on here about how weak women need men to protect them and thus don't deserve equality.

What word would you like used to describe prejudice against women? I'm open to suggestions.

I think it's cute that you're trying to use the anecdotal evidence of this article to support your claims and then pretending I misunderstand when I disregard this story and demand actual facts. Fair, but all hypothesis gathered through observation still needs to be put to scientific test before it can be accepted. After all, if Galileo hadn't shown that apples fall at the same speed as rocks, we still wouldn't have a rudimentary understanding of the laws of gravity. And if things held in the common knowledge need to be put to the test, the statement that was made that I was challenging- The only way we solve men's issues is by recognizing as we used to that women can't handle equal rig…

I could launch into an explanation on why it's stupid visa vi genetics and hereditary traits meaning that the ability to cry on command would be inherited by both men and women. There could also be an argument on whether or not she taught herself to do this, and therefore isn't a representative of the general population. Or simply the fact that this is not appropriate for MR as there's no focus on rights and is just anti-woman. But, frankly, it's anecdotal evidence and I felt my own anecdote was…

Citation? And even if you provide one, history is a subjective account told through the winner's perspective, so it's really hard to prove that point. Even then, it is still subject to the causation vs correlation argument- do we know that they were incapable of handling equal rights or was that just a correlated effect due to the times. Provide proof. Till then, aliens are coming, god is real and Santa hates you are just as valid statements for me to make.

And I'm a female and can't. This is stupid.
/r/MensRights03/10/12 07:27 AM

Oh, that was completely fair and reasoned. I like how you rationally pointed out that it's to women's benefit to vote for Obama without resorting to crude language but instead by being truly eloquent and unbiased. I really admired the bit where you urged men to vote for their best interests and offered to help register people at the poles this fall! The activism! The fervor! ....And then I woke up.

Reverse discrimination serves no purpose. If you want to be taken seriously, say "Hey, these are the rights I feel I'm denied. Let's do something about it." Or you could just bitch about women, but that's not going to get anything done.
/r/MensRights03/10/12 07:15 AM

Of course not. While I advocate pranking in all forms against any genders, she wasn't pulling a funny prank, she was being a passive aggressive idiot. I get a considerable amount of hate around here as I call myself a feminist, but if we women want to be taken seriously the passive aggressive b.s must stop. It's cowardly and shows a complete lack of willingness to take responsibility for one's actions. You have a problem with someone, you say it to their face.

That's a cute assumption but I'm actually a full time student and, depending on the week, work between full and part time in physically demanding job. I also help my mother with my younger brothers, especially the autistic one even though I moved out at 19 and have paid my own bills since. But I have boobs, ergo, ladder theory and I'm terrible. If it is such a concern of yours, I look forward to your creation of the first artificial womb. Till then, maybe try finding a stable partner that you can truly trust to carry your child rather than hoping a random hook up will provide young. And yes, while a surrogate could still abort there would be monetary and legal consequences for breaching contract. If a male truly wants unintentionally conceived offspring there are no fool proof ways for him to acquire them (miscarriages can happen) but …

I know this is completely off topic, but I'm studying for my M.bio exam and confirm/deny if sausage worms are an Echiura? I'm something of a Luddite, I can't seem to find it... Well, maybe you're right and feminism is a word that should be retired. I don't mind changing terminology. Okay, Would you rather I use women's rights? I like looking at abortion from a financial and legal standpoint, factoring out the when it is or isn't alive argument. According to our current law, no human is required to do anything else to maintain another human being's life unless they are a health care professional at work. Thus, as a female's body is maintaining a fetus' life, she may choose to end said services to another person when she pleases. If it can survive on its own, then good for it. If it can't then it's not her problem.
/r/MensRights02/10/12 08:52 AM

Don't know why you're getting downvoted for providing citation from nonbiased source. That seems really shitty. If you don't like a fact, refute a better argumen or change your mind, don't downvote and ignore.

Thank you. I came here to say this. Yes- I'd like an accurate representation of the current population, but would vote for a candidate that reflects my views rather than my gender or ethnic group.

I agree. I wouldn't want a man to pay for everything on any date, but I would expect a very sincere apology and an offer to make up the time to me in some way if he was late by over an hour with no excuse and no calling to tell me. Just as I would offer to make it up in some way if I had been that rude.
/r/MensRights02/10/12 08:33 AM

You actually went and looked through my posting history in order to make a statement like that? At least I have the excuse of prepping for debate team... (Also, ad hominem is not a response)
/r/MensRights02/10/12 08:30 AM

I don't think you hate all women, just disrespect them but.. and wait.. I'm a zealot... but you don't do ad hominem attacks... You know what, never mind. You're absolutely right. There's no point in arguing with a zealot and I've wasted enough time here. I just hope no women has children with you and I certainly hope you never raise daughters. If you'd like the lasts word, you can have it. I have back to back bio classes in the morning, I need to sleep.
/r/MensRights02/10/12 08:29 AM

Now that's just dumb. I like human beings. Their gender and sex is irrelevant to me. Plus, how can you prove a statement like that? Imagine applying a statement like that to a religious group or a group holding another ideology. Try saying "All Christians hate Muslims." Sounds pretty terrible now, doesn't it?
/r/MensRights02/10/12 08:19 AM

Again, be more clear. This was rambling and incoherent. Secondly, if you actually do risk your life for me, my taxes go to your pay and then your medical care, school and housing. Which is awesome. Also: women are commonly put in combat situations Quote "Today, US military officials concede that despite prohibitions against women serving in combat – and despite efforts in some cases to keep women far from fighting – there are no defined front lines." Well, Hitler could call himself a Jew-lover, that wouldn't make it so. A feminist is defined by her idealogy. She can call herself whatever she likes, that doesn't make it so. If her idealogy doesn't match up with what feminism is, then she isn't one.

You need to stop ad hominem attacks. Don't tell me what I do or don't need to do, in fact leave me as a person out of this- this isn't about me, it's a debate about ideology. You haven't stated a single logical point that has any proof behind it. Actually say something other than insults. I'd be happy to talk. As for human rights for all, when is that an issue we shouldn't be fighting for? And misogyny (though I'm using a broad version of the term) does apply to someone who has a view that women…

Neither do I. The Black rights movement used violence as well. Such was a sad fact that force was necessary to make people listen in less civil times.

I am actually too flabbergasted to construct a perfect response, so this may be a little sketchy. Men's rights are a wonderful thing and should be worked towards, as should all human rights. You, however, don't believe in men's rights, you believe in misogyny. I want you to be equal to me, and me equal to you. I don't want superiority in custody battles or avoidance of the draft or preference in domestic abuse claims. I also want the opportunities available to you. So, kindly go back to the 1850…

First off- have you ever been drafted? If no, then none of this applies. When you've been forced to risk your life then you can make any of these arguments. Second, war has broken out and you still don't seem to be drafted. Third- gendercide? Please be more specific. There is sex selective abortion all over the world and it usually means more female infants die in utero than males (as this mostly occurs in Asia were males are the preferred gender). I agree that there are laws that are unfair and…

Yes, but being disparaging isn't conducive to the argument. Also, while the claim does seem high to me, you haven't offered counter evidence. And in order to change a previously held model you have to offer evidence to the contrary, not just point out that it seems odd. The idea of a universe with a god seems odd to me, but as I can't offer evidence to the contrary I must say that I assume there is no god but can't prove it.
/r/MensRights02/10/12 02:34 AM

I'd be happy to test it on my end- I live right by UCLA, we could test it in a group and record the results. Anyone else willing to do this in another town so we could have a braoder data spectrum?
/r/MensRights02/10/12 02:31 AM

In this instance there is no cause and effect since testing out an equal vs unequal society in a vacuum is unethical. However, via correlation we can make (still debatable but most likely correct) assumptions. So it seems you misunderstood my point.

Men receive a large number of benefits that women don't qualify for as well. What are these benefits that women get that you're referring to exactly? (list and citation please) For example until very recently birth control wasn't covered under all health care but viagra was. Also, there are still hundreds of jobs that women are in in very small numbers or completely banned from. Women's sports is another issue. That's complete and utter tripe. Just look at the entire Middle East. Yes, women in power have not always used it kindly or wisely but men in power are exactly the same. In fact, humans are the same regardless of gender in this issue. Absolute power abuses absolutely, no exceptions.
/r/MensRights01/10/12 08:13 AM

Well, (disclaimer, I am female) I had a talk with a transgender friend with a while back, and I think it was absolutely brilliant when she pointed out that both men and women are both allowed to equally compete to be masculine but men are discouraged from competing to be feminine while women aren't. I.e, both men and women could pursue a career in business but a man as a manicurist might get some weird looks. Perhaps a better example; both males and females can be competitive but only women are …

I'd be happy to believe something else, just show us a counter statistic. While it's improbable, it's still the only numbers available. When new data is presented from a reliable source the opinions of myself and everyone else will change. To clarify: I'm not saying the data is right or wrong, just that it's the data I'll use to make my assumption as it's the only numbers available.
/r/MensRights01/10/12 08:04 AM

Actually, you have to prove your claim (as I assume you're trying to disprove a commonly accepted idea)- i.e that the statistics currently presented are wrong. He/she has simply pointed out that you haven't done that and therefore have no basis to make your statements. Also, don't say honey. It's kind of disparaging.
/r/MensRights01/10/12 08:01 AM

I'm with qwestionseverything here. You can't just say that the statistics are false because they seem that way via personal observation. You have to prove your own point of view via facts. You haven't offered facts to the contrary yet.

And a minority when measured in how much sex they'll be having with you? All joking aside, depending on the culture and society gender and sex contributions can be perfectly balanced or imbalanced to favor one or the other.

Why is the male as a dominant partner better for the relationship?
/r/MensRights01/10/12 07:48 AM

Nothing in your comment is about equality- it seems entirely devoted to returning to the status quo of the last century. I'd also like to point out that you've made the 'benevolent ruler' argument, and then tried to justify it by saying when men are in power they are always kind. Have you taken note of nothing that's been happening in the Middle East? That being said, yes women will abuse their power too. It's a human thing, not dependent on gender but rather the moral fiber of the individual. I…

I'm sorry you've had bad experiences with women and feminism in the past, but please remember, at it's core feminism was created to make human beings equal. I hate to use the 'no true Scotsman' fallacy, but anyone following the core principles of what feminism was originally about wouldn't advocate that men are lesser. Still, I'm sure that, like anything, it can be warped for individual prejudices and manipulated.
