Imagine arguing that if a woman got aroused while being raped she must have wanted it.

Which was the point of MGTOW. Find a path in your life that is about your own happiness. Don’t rely on others to fulfill your happiness. Generations may make different choices on what they choose to do but that doesn’t mean they are not inadvertently following the MGTOW philosophy.

No matter how many words you put in front of it it is still FEMinism. The primary focus and objective is for the benefit of women (it is right in the name). Now, there is nothing wrong with having a movement that advocates for a specific sub-group but that sub-group will always take precedent within the philosophy of the movement (as it should). It is like trying to argue that affirmative action works to help poor white Americans. If we want to have a shared philosophy that works to help both ge…

Excellent write up. I was only stating the direction the narrative went in another subreddit. It was all anecdotal experiences but people were willing to accept them as the reason because it fit their viewpoint.

Unfortunately not. This was post in the science Reddit (I believe) and the narrative was that men refuse care. Though if you believe ‘machoism’ stems from patriarchy then that narrative lends it support.

I think the best thought experiments we can use to understand what society feels men’s rights are around parenthood is to ask someone what their opinion of safe haven drops is. Most see them as positive (better than a baby in a trash bin). Now have the same person give their opinion of the person that leaves their baby at a safe haven drop book (most will describe a young and scared woman). Now ask them their thoughts around the father leaving their child at a safe haven drop. People often think…

The people that say this have a single archetype of a “man” in their head. They only perceive men as wealthy and white. Ask them if the issues of a wealthy white woman should be resolved before we make any effort to solve the issues faced by poor black boys.

The thing that is important to remember is that both men and women reinforce toxic gender norms for both genders. Using masculinity and femininity in the name implies that that gender is responsible for the behaviour and also responsible to make change for the better (at least that is how I perceive it). When both genders play a role in reinforcing toxic expectations on both genders we would be better of treating them under the same umbrella rather than dividing them along the gender line. So us…

Yes but we should call them “toxic gender norms” or “toxic gender expectations”. Using divisive language only serves to create opposing sides and gender is not a line that defines toxicity as both sides contribute to it and suffer from it.

On topics like this I try to stay conservative with my language. If you say something like ‘tons’ or ‘many’ people that want to discredit your point will focus on those words and say I am exaggerating. If I say ‘few’ it doesn’t give them ammo to distract from the real point.

But I thought the idea behind the safe haven laws was that the abandoning parent was able to do it under anonymity and there is a promise not to try and identify the parent.

I have always wondered why men who are unwillingly forced into fatherhood don’t avail themselves of safe haven laws. They can anonymously drop off the unwanted child without consulting the mother just like any mother could do.

I saw the article (journal article, not this op-Ed about the journal article) posted to r/Science. The conclusion most people drew were that if women were more honest with their partners regarding their needs they would have higher sexual satisfaction. And the obligatory comments about how fragile male egos are. What most people missed was that this behaviour was a form of partner ego management. Both parties have an interest in supporting their partner’s ego. What I believe to be a very apt com…

Can you cite any case law where a man was jailed for dropping his child at a safe haven without consent from the mother? They can’t apply safe haven laws different based on the gender of the parent.

There is no way that would stand in court. Do you have any case law where a man was charged with kidnapping for giving his child up at a safe haven?

This isn’t solely about $. We have LOTS of evidence to show that having many children raised by single mothers creates many social problems. It would be in the best interest of progress to reduce the number of unplanned/unwanted children born. Your approach is basically “hey, women have more rights to walk away from their responsibilities. To achieve equality men should have all the same rights as women to walk away from their responsibilities”. A healthier approach is to make sure those that do…

Maybe I am not understanding correctly but what I am hearing from your argument is that women have more rights than men to choose whether or not they want to become a parent. Where men’s rights stop at conception, women’s rights continue past conception. If I have that right then your argument boils down to “women have more rights to choose parental responsibility and also have the ability to take that choice away from men. Men should have equal rights and therefore should not have their right t…

The social change you are suggesting we undertake would be significantly harder to accomplish than making investments into reversible male contraceptives. Failure rates for correctly performed and healed vasectomies are effectively 0%. Condoms would still be encouraged due to STDs. If women continue to take birth control then there are several stages of protection and the likelihood of all methods failing is so incredibly low it becomes negligible. This outcome is way better than children raised…

You have an interesting argument. However it is all based around the idea that pregnancy is an inevitable outcome of sex. I would argue it would be better to eliminate the possibility of a pregnancy occurring without the express consent of both parties. To do this would require both parties to have options that give them 100% control over their fertility. You are correct that our focus on reproductive rights has been on women and not men. However men do have some options. I think we would be bet…

I’m with you on that. The unfortunate thing is that it is quite naive of them to think the term will just go away. It makes more sense to work at defining the term to be constructive rather than destructive. Thanks for being a beacon of sensibility in the dark.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/11/21 05:47 PM

I see your point. But this is kind of like trying to pretend the term toxic masculinity isn’t a thing and hoping it goes away. Unfortunately it is part of the social vernacular now and it would be better to control the definition than let others do that (since we have seen how toxic others definition of the term can be).
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/11/21 10:57 PM

You make an interesting point. I think it really comes down to the individual. WHY would the man make that choice. Would he do it because he couldn’t live with himself after making that choice. He would feel shame and self-loathing due to not living up to what he sees as his duty (which was instilled by the social norm of male disposability). That would definitely qualify as internalized misandry. But if the shame was applied from external sources (society) then to me that falls under toxic masc…

I would say the issue is with the definition not the term. When people talk about TM it is always in the context of masculine norms that harm women. When the focus should be on masculine norms that harm men. The term TM has become part of the social vernacular and by ignoring it we allow others to define it.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/11/21 10:47 PM

I definitely agree. I think it is important to recognize that the use of the term quite normalized socially. So ignoring it is not useful but rather properly framing the definition is important. Making sure it encompasses those social norms or “gender expectations” that are harmful to men. I definitely hold issue with the language and would prefer a more effective term like ‘toxic gender expectations’. My concern is that this does not eliminate the term ‘toxic masculinity’ from our vocabulary. A…

Toxic masculinity has nothing to do with privilege at all. The concept refers to social enforced traits/behaviours which are harmful to men. The concept of male self-sacrifice or disposability comes from the societal expectation that men are to put their safety on the line for others. If men do not follow this path they are the subject of social shaming (the feminist white feather campaign during the war is a prime example). Thus this behaviour comes from a toxic/harmful definition of what is ma…

I don’t know if you are agreeing with me or disagreeing with me. Based on the downvotes I imagine the consensus here is that this scenario is not an example of toxic masculinity (I.e. socially enforced behaviour that are harmful to men’s well-being). I think the social construct that men must be the defenders and protectors is incredibly harmful to men. If you are disagreeing with me then I am really confused since there is zero correlation between male privilege (which is non existent and is of…

Prime example of toxic masculinity. Men being socially shamed into sacrificing themselves for women. Edit: I am really intrigued by the response to this comment. The two comments I have received have either said I am misconstruing "internalized misandry" or calling this "male privilege" Misandry is defined as "the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against men". By adding "internalized" you are saying that this male behaviour is caused by an individuals hatred of themselves based on their gen…

Abusers use the most effective tools at their disposal. Men tend to employ more physical methods of abuse while women tend use psychological methods of abuse (to be clear usually both forms are used by both genders but these trends are due to physiological differences). Physical abuse is very visible so it can be easier to identify and discuss. However psychological abuse is much more difficult to identify. The data provided is that he cooks for his family. There is zero data provided about what his wife does or does not do. So assuming she does nothing or everything else is speculation. Listen I’m all about MGTOW. We know we hold the moral high ground over women. Let’s not get down to their level and sling shit over incomplete information.

So? We know nothing about their family dynamic. Maybe that is the right choice for them. Maybe she cleans the house and he does the cooking. Maybe he really liked cooking and traded that for all the yard work. Assuming she does nothing because she doesn’t cook is just stupid. We have zero context to make that assumption. These unfounded assumptions make you look just as stupid as the women in r/TwoXChromosomes.

The things she lists are “things women dislike about masculinity”. When women bring up “toxic masculinity” they never bring up things that are actually harmful to men. The example I always give is “white knighting”. It’s funny to see how they react to this since women benefit from “white knighting”. But it is great example since men gain nothing from putting themselves at risk to protect a woman but are expected to by society and shamed if they don’t do it. All because of their gender.
/r/MGTOW222/05/21 01:52 AM
1

You are correct that is a terrible choice since it’s most likely interpretation is masculinity=toxic. I definitely think the concept should be rebranded. Similar to how global warming was rebranded as climate change because the latter conveys the issue much more accurately. I have always said a better term would be ‘toxic gender stereotypes’.
/r/MGTOW225/04/21 12:21 AM

When I first heard of the term ‘toxic masculinity’ I incorrectly assumed that the term meant ‘masculinity is toxic’. The definition is more accurately ‘social/cultural expectations that are harmful to the wellbeing of men’. As OP rightfully pointed out. The term is only ever evoked when behaviours that women dislike are the subject. However staying true to the definition, the concept of men being inherently responsible to protect others and are shamed for not putting themselves at risk to protec…

I totally agree that women seem to be the ones that define what is “toxic masculinity” and it is always masculine things that women do not like. I hated it because of that. If we want to have “toxic masculinity” it should be defined by men. To me there are toxic masculine traits/behaviour and they are things that hurt men not women. Both men and women can be sluts. Men, by nature of the game, have to put in more effort (at least up front). I wouldn’t define being a slut by how much effort you have to put in though. Read the your comment before this one. You stated that feminism is about equality. Now reread the message I just commented on “it’s about superiority, over equality”. You may want to take some honest reflection on your own view on this. Feminism has never been about equality. Which is fine. Women can advocate for their own rights. However to make feminism harder to argue against they have attached the idea of equality to it. The claim that you can advocate for one group and achieve equality is a…

The issue with Brock Turner is a great example of the true issue. The rapist Brock Turner did not get away with raping that woman because he was a guy. It was because his family was rich and connected. The fight our society should be fighting is against those with power (in particular those who abuse it). Unfortunately those with power are doing a great job of keeping society focused on gender and race as social issues rather than power. It is also disingenuous to focus on only one form of crime…

There is no “who was aggressive first”. This has been part of nature since the beginning of evolution. Abuse comes from a power dynamic which is unique to humans. Just look at how this is treated by our justice system.

My whole comment was about how we don’t recognize typical female abuse tactics as abuse. I’m not sure why you are going on about inequality. And a majority of social programs go to support women. There are vastly more social programs that support women and very very few that support men. There is a huge inequality in social support programs in Western Society. That guy is an idiot. We shouldn’t support people being abused by others no matter their gender. I like to think that the MGTOW philosophy is about enlightenment. Guys like him are the ones that give a bad name to the term. He is the type that feminists will point at to continue to vilify men. He is doing a huge disservice to all men by thinking that way. Bang on. I talk about this a lot and often even women can’t fathom that this is true. Both men and women can be abusive to others. Men typically use their physical advantage to abuse others. Women don’t often have this advantage so they leverage other methods which are best described as psychological or mental abuse. To be clear men can also be mentally abusive and women can be physically abusive. But it is not their primary tool. This is a HUGE issue socially because it is hard to identify and …

This is always the point I discuss when people claim feminism is about equality. If it was about equality the movement would seek to balance these inequalities as well. Yeah you are bang on. We’ve gone beyond just the topic of innovation now but the perpetual victim complex that most women have is a serious issue. How do you counter that though because it works REALLY well? Most women will come to her defends and simps and white knights fall in line because they don’t want to risk upsetting the poor poor victims. The issue is that women can always fall back on the argument that men have had a huge advantage throughout the development of civilization due to women not being given the opportunity, education, etc (until recently). And they have a point there. But even if we were to look at more modern innovation they would still argue the common societal belief that women are held back from full participation in the subjects that innovate our civilization (STEM, etc). And if we go as far back as pre-civiliza…

Considering they couldn’t reproduce and no one can live more than about 100 years. There would be at least 200 years of zero maintenance. So your assertion is correct. A very important thing to remember is to only pay any mind to the words of someone you respect. You need to realize that YOU are letting these people bother you. Nothing you have said is blatant sarcasm since nothing you have said is out of the ordinary for people such as yourself. The convention when trying to convey sarcasm on Reddit is to add /s after your statement. That way you can be clear as to the tone/voice of your message.

The general public persecution of drugs is hugely skewed due to the American governments war of drugs and how they are portrayed through media (news and entertainment). As I said before you only hear about the bad things that happen around drugs (and generally in life) from the news. Or how people “react” to drugs in media. The classic being that you will have psychedelic hallucinations if you smoke cannabis (which is completely false). I do agree that you shouldn’t put other people’s well-being…
/r/MGTOW10/12/19 03:43 AM
1

Well you keep believing what the government tells you is good and bad. I will keep evaluating my world through personal judgment and experiences. It is also important to recognize that you only hear about the negative outcomes of drug use (including alcohol). No one hears about the time nothing happened after someone consumed drugs.
/r/MGTOW10/12/19 02:14 AM
1

Sure there a varying degrees of potency and potential for addiction/dependency with different drugs. Cannabis (which I bet was the drug she was doing at the party) is less harmful and less addictive than alcohol. Overall I would argue that the consumption of “drugs” is only bad when you let it take control of your life.
/r/MGTOW10/12/19 02:07 AM
1

You are also naive about drugs then. Because using most drugs does not make you addict. Most people choose to consume drugs and do not “need” them. Do you think everyone that drinks alcohol “needs” alcohol?

You are VERY naive. The fact that you think people that use recreational drugs can’t also be productive members of society shows that you have little exposure to reality. Many people use recreational drugs responsibly and do not let it negatively impact their ability to hold a productive life.

Women are taught that if they regret a decision it wasn’t their fault and they must have been coerced into it somehow. This is the heart of #MeToo. The funny thing is that they don’t realize that they are saying that they can’t be trusted to make their own decisions. They have no agency.

No how f’n stupid of him. She is clearly psycho and he should stay far away from her. I would argue that this type of male behaviour (“protect women at all costs”) is the true toxic masculinity. All it does is reinforce negative behaviour.

I assume there were qualifying rounds. And I don’t think anyone has ever claimed that gaming setups cater to males more than females. So isn’t this an example where the only competitive difference is the mind and I guess reaction time (assuming no technological advantages). How is it somehow sexist that the women that entered into near perfect non-gender influenced competition just weren’t good enough to be in the top 100? That is just how competition works. Go practice and be better next year.

We all get it. There is a lot of anger here about the disparity in how men and women are treated in society. Well I guess the anger comes from the fact that male victims receive less sympathy/empathy from society then women. While female assailants are MUCH less vilified by society than their male counterparts. Not only is this disparity disappointing but the fact that wanting to discuss these issues somehow makes you a monster in society. That for me is where the anger stems from.

It only seems like Western women are worse because feminism has had more time to change the social rules. Fortunately I feel as though the momentum is slowing and society has less of an appetite for true feminism. Hopefully we all smarten up and aim for equality rather than promote some unproductive gender war.

There was a girl not that long back that accused a guy of raping her after he stopped to help her with her car. Peter evidence came to light that it was a lies. His life was still destroyed. She was aiming for attention which she got plenty of positive attention up until she was caught in her lie. It is also pretty common to use this as a cheating scapegoat when caught. In the scenario she get to save face.

I know this a bit of a tangent but I had a thought the other day about hiring and ‘dress codes’. It is common to have conditions limiting types of clothes (to maintain professionalism) and scentless offices are a thing. Could you establish a ‘no makeup’ rule for an office? If you cover this in interviews you would have most women decline any offer of employment. Those that would work there are not likely to be the type to use their looks to get their way. Thoughts?

I would argue that conceptually no, but practically yes. It is like theory versus execution. Even in the perfect marriage the man faces significant more legal risk than the woman. This inequality is what makes it outdated. We need laws that protect the party that is not the one breaking the contract. And we need to get rid of all no-fault divorce laws. Protecting people from their shorty behaviour is a terrible precedent to have.

Sure there may be consequences to helping but men still step in when things aren't all peaches and cream and this is the "toxic masculinity" that is being touted as a determent to our society. I think most people's salty reaction here is spot on since apparently society doesn't want masculinity to help anymore.

In my opinion 'venting' is a selfish act. Venting is just a nicer way to say 'bitching'. All you are doing is using someone as a sponge to dump your frustrations on. You cant bitch at people about something this controversial. It makes it really easy to dismiss you BECAUSE you are venting (i.e. dumping shit on them). There are some good comments here advising on how better to approach facilitating a discussion on the subject. Essentially you need to use logic, thought experiments, and anecdotes …

This is why civilization is what it is. Because when men are faced with adversity they put their head down and power through. They don't let the issue destroy them but rather they find a way to overcome it. Unfortunately this same trait makes men really good plantation slaves. Other people just break down crying and expect other people to fix their problem. I'll let you figure out who falls in that group.

What you are describing is exactly the strategy that was employed to develop modern civilization, monogomy. It happened to be delivered through Christianity because at the time that was the most influencial group. But it was understood that if you created rules to force the equitable distribution of women and men then all men were motivated to produce (or HAD to). Thus driving innovation and development. There was also the benefit of calming the sexual competition between men allowing them to fo…

Years ago I had been dating a girl for a several months. I ended up getting really busy and we didn't speak for about 3 weeks. She called me annoyed that I hadn't contacted her in that time. I ask why it mattered, I was busy. She said it was unacceptable to go that long and not speak with the person you are dating. I asked her why she didn't call me then. She didn't have an answer for that. I ended the call by letting her know this wasn't going to work for me any longer. It is always about atten…

That is what I thought too. I read that comment and it was all about her with little to no input to OP. Women like that are common. Always wanting to be included and noticed but contributing nothing of value

Fucking banks and a credit society. Holy fuck! The only time you should ever borrow money is if you are going to make more off that money than it will cost you to service it. I don't know which has been worse for our civilization, feminism or easy credit. Both are definitely accelerating the downward spiral.

There is also a lot that can be said about respect. Modern women have little respect for men. In fact they are actively encouraged to disrespect men. I think teaching them to judge people on their actions and treat good people with respect (this goes for men/boys as well) is a good life lesson. However self-respect is just as important. Another thing lost on modern women. This isn't bulletproof by any means but they should turn out as better people for it. Oh also teaching them about the freedom…

If it wasn't for attention women wouldn't do it. Which is unfortunate for them since this drive results in never achieving greatness. Great people do not seek external validation.

I believe most people would argue that the positives are temporary. The timeline on how temporary they are dependent on environmental factors. Basically hypergamy rears its head and she makes a move to take a much from her current provider and move on to the next one. This is why they argue AWALT. The 'Always' could surface at any time and in many forms.

She is never going to reflect on this and take personal responsibility. She is going to stew on it and try and find a way to get revenge. It is a no win battle but I doubt she will see that.

Just a heads up. She is going to snap. If you think about what is going to happen in her mind, the future she is planning for you is going to crumble in an instant and she is going to blame you. You've "stolen" years of her youth (her value) that she can't get back. Plus her value has dropped significantly throughout your relationship based on what you shared. She will plead and bargain until she accepts that will not work. Eventually she will shift to anger. She is likely to use the powers avai…

I honestly believe that women do mature faster than men. However that is not because they progress through maturity at a faster rate it is that women's bar for maturity is significantly lower than men's. An extreme example is that no one would be shocked if a women moves directly from her parents' house to a man's house and never worked a day in her life and she would still be seen a 'mature'. No man could ever follow that same path and be called 'mature'.

Men need to start standing up to women more. We need to point out their hypocrisy and not let them control the dialogue with their culturally acceptable sexist stance.
