There are more good women out there than you think - it's just that the bad ones get exposed more often so men think that's all there is.

My fiance is all of those things except I am not a high maintenance, expensive woman. And if I was, he would not be with me.

The "don't do that, it's gay" reaction is only a result of gay being a negative thing, I think. The assumption that gay is not "masculine." The way I look at it is - if you would look at two women doing something and not assume sexual involvement, then two men doing the exact same thing shouldn't garner that assumption either.

I love it when straight dudes are physically intimate in a non-sexual way. To me it just says "Screw societal expectations; I'm straight and a man but I'm secure enough to admit that being close to you makes me happy." Manly. Interestingly enough, I've noted that some men from eastern European cultures with a deeply-ingrained machismo are much less shy about physical contact with their male friends.

Wow. Thank you. :) It took me a second to make sure that wasn't sarcasm...mostly because it's reddit and that's the dominating form of communication around here. And I don't think it is. I hope it's not, else I'll feel quite foolish. But if it's not, thank you immensely; I really appreciate being complimented on my intelligence. :D As you said before, the tactics seem to be working for feminists, and fighting fire with fire is actually implemented when needed...perhaps in this instance it will p…

Well then you have a legitimate argument. :)

I think it'd be amusing to start using vagina and penis as insults. It would catch people off guard. "You're such a vagina!" "You know Rachel? She's such a penis..." They'd be too caught up in figuring out what you meant by that they wouldn't have time to be offended. See, I think it's offensive to call someone any of those things. But for some reason cunt is just more offensive. Is there a male equivalent? Is getting called a dick really that demeaning and insulting? I hear guys call each other…

But they're both insults. You make it sound like people just go around referring to men as dicks in normal conversation. "Yeah well I was out yesterday with some of my dick friends"..."hey see that group of dicks over there? Let's go talk to them." As far as I'm aware, that isn't a use of the word. Dick and cunt are both insults. So is pussy. Pussy has a different connotation than cunt, cunt just happens to be more offensive, just as dick is more offensive than prick. They both refer to the same…

Well I would argue that it does view the male equivalents as offensive. It's offensive if someone calls you a dick, isn't it? It's also offensive if someone calls you a pussy, a bitch, a cunt, a prick, a cocksucker. That last one is interesting. It implies that the act of giving head to a man is demeaning. The connotations of most offensive words are negative towards women, excepting dick and prick; I can't think of any other words for the penis that are used as insults usually directed at men..…

We are basically in agreement. :) The affirmative action programs you speak of, as well as the inequalities in womens' favor throughout society are, in my opinion, the backlash at an historically patriarchal society. In the attempt to make things more equal for women, men are getting shortchanged and discriminated against. In my opinion...just the way that the NCLB act has digressed into "let's hold back the really bright kids with the average ones and just make them all mediocre". But that's a …

Why are there so many more commonly-used words describing male genitalia? There are female versions, but I could argue that words describing a man's penis are more acceptable because it's a patriarchal society that wants women to be ashamed of their genitalia and thus words describing the vagina are more offensive. You may not see it that way, and you are likely not a proponent of said patriarchal society. But the fact is that the world is still primarily dominated by men, so whether individuals…

From a female perspective...it's because it implies something filthy; something to be ashamed of. Using the dirtiest word for our own genitalia possible to insult us is like pouring salt in an open wound. It's just such a demeaning word in our language, the way dick and cock and prick just aren't. Or at least I don't perceive them to be; maybe I'm wrong. To me, cunt is just about the most insulting thing you can say to a woman. That and calling her a cumdumpster. Actually I think I'd rather be c…

Womens' magazines tell us what men want too, and exactly how to give it to them. Mostly in bed. And it's usually demeaning to men and women, implying that the woman is a vapid meatsack good for nothing but sex, and the man a lumbering neanderthal lacking the intellect to want anything more than sex. It's all just sick...generalizations about both sexes are just stupid and ignorant.

As a woman, this is stupid. I don't know a single one of my female friends who is offended by a guy asking "what's up?" In fact...oh wait, that's how WE talk to each other. Oh shit...just offended my friend by not asking how her current mental state was. My bad. Women like this bother me. I feel like I should apologize for their existence.

So one of the reasons for anti-male sentiment in society is the high percentage of women in these fields? Not stating it as fact or accusation; following the logic in the form of a question for clarification of meaning.

Just wondering; what was your intention in posting this? Do you find this unfair, or just an FYI for reddit?

A wild female appears! Here's my two cents. Gonna be honest; looks are semi-important. If I don't like to look at you, chances are you're going to have less of a chance. But that's based on my personal opinions of what is attractive. That said, if you have an awesome personality, make me laugh, we get along great and are pretty compatible...if you're somewhat attractive you've definitely got a shot. Here's a list of some things that we want. Not all are required, of course...these are ideals. at…
