I wonder, is the fact that you have been together six years and not marries contributing to this? Not that you should marry her (especially in the current state), but if all the other girls around her like her sis and friends are getting married, maybe she's getting resentful? Is her mom the type to nag about marriage and babies - "when are you gonna get married like your sister?" Don't have solutions, but that could be a root cause of "communication" problems and any other smallish overblown is…

Yeah... Spent way too much touching that stuff in college. Words like "problematic" and "other" give me an allergic reaction to this day....

Are you from Russian/former Soviet background, or some other immigrant background? A friend of mine complained of similar issues. It's just that math teachers who are shaky with fraction addition get confused if toy multiply by -1 and add 2 at the SAME TIME.

Small point, but Progs use the word "neoliberalism" as a derisive blanket term for western values and free markets in particular.

Awesome! Will have to read in depth later today! Love that you post a booklist. I feel like you can get a good sense of a person from their booklists. Although it's a debate whether LotR is one book or three. (Sorry for going off topic.)

Yes! Books are critical! My entire family has always treated books with reverence growing up - more than nice china or our car or whatever other expensive shit. Books are what the tyrant bans first, along with the guns. Give your kids culture of living books, of loving them, of revering them, and you already made them "privileged": a respect for knowledge and wisdom, thought and work thst will stand them in much better stead than the dumb, messed up kids from messed up homes all around them. But…

I am only a lurker, but you sound like a girl. "Oh, she shares my interests, she understands me as a person, it's so easy to talk to her!" And the opposite for your wife. Those are exactly a girl's rationalizations for fawning over a guy who clearly isn't that into her while trying to get rid of her BB boyfriend she's bored of. Also, stop giving out so much personal info about where and when and what you do, or it'll be an outraged internet stranger blowing up our life instead of a resentful pla…

Whether she's using it as an excuse or not, it can be a real concern, especially if she started taking it as a remedy for acne and irregular periods - in which case the birth control could be masking such issues as cysts on her ovaries. Also, there's not much good research about the effects of taking long-term birth control on fertility, so who knows? I would suggest letting her go off birth control and waiting until her period stabilizes, and discussing options then. If nothing's wrong, it will…
