We're still talking about this in the context of a system that largely protects women and assumes that the man is at fault. That's why I put quotes around it, because frankly, I think he didn't do anything wrong, but that's what people will say

100% agree. As far as I'm concerned if someone starts a fight/hits you, you should be able to end the fight with reasonable force. Now if he knocked her on the ground and started wailing away, I'd have an issue, but poppin' them both and walking away...I'm cool with it.

Yes, she attacked first, but she isn't attacking him anymore. So it's not self defense, he's now lashing out and retaliating. Again there's no legal protection covering your retaliation, you're only covered if it's clear self defense.

The problem is, it isn't defense anymore. Technically, it could be argued that the situation was "diffused" since she walked away and so his reliation was assault. The law doesn't really protect your right to retaliation, just defense. I don't have a problem with what he did, but there is a good chance he got in as much trouble as her (with the school or legally.)

I know exactly what you mean. I almost lost it about a month ago when I took him to the park and he fell down some lady remarked "Looks like Mommy must want a day off, daddy day care today?" I mean, it wasn't said with any sort of disdain, but fuck off. I'm a parent, I absolutely can't stand those kind of comments. Thanks for the support, I never bad mouth the mother (even if I want to) because it does nothing but hurt the kid. Feel like that's one of the most selfish things a parent can do. But…

"Woman are more capable of taking care of their kids" is what I was told by the court the first time...Fuck that I have to listen to my 5 year old son ask if he can just stay with me everytime I drop them off and it breaks my fucking heart.
