Different words with different meanings. Dating means casual sex to a lot of people, so half of the women surveyed are fine having casual sex with men shorter than themselves but only 4% would have a shorter guy as a boyfriend. I don't care if you disagree, it doesn't stop the existence of the median average and the modal average in any set of numbers. However, like I said 3 times now: If no qualifier is used, then 'average' means the 'mean average' or the 'arithmetic mean average'. But you're not allowed to just decide that modes/medians are not also averages.

The mean is the sum of all the values divided by the count of all the values. The median is the central point - sort all your values and if it's an odd number, pick the number in the middle - that's your average. The mode is the most common value. Most often people mean the mean average when they say average. Like if someone says they are producing a 'weighted average' they mean a 'weighted mean' or a 'weighted arithmetic mean'.
