Such as? Lots of suggestions here about changing the term because it hurts feelings, but no actual alternatives are proposed.

Except it's not "their" words. They're words. And they were coined by... gasp one of us!

Except it was men who coined the term.... But continue to rage against that machine, Paul Ryan.

Sure, let's just ignore 30 years of work because you can't be bothered to do a bit of fucking legwork. Nobody is calling men toxic. It isn't always about you, you fucking narccist.

Because that is what you're fixated on. Not any of the work going on to help young boys figure out how to deal with the bullshit, but because it sounds like "the men are bad" you get your fucking back up, instead of actually engaging with the idea that some ways masculinity is represented harms men. I can't tell if it's a knee-jerk reaction out of ignorance, a fucking persecution complex, or just all together a bad faith, willful misinterpretation of the phrase.

But it doesn't just affect men. It affects everybody. It just so happens that the harmful ideas associated with what does/does not constitute manliness, are... get this... related to masculinity. Whether there is toxic femininity has no fucking relation to the discussion at hand, and you're whataboutism is harming men at the expense of your fucking pride and inability to read and thing critically about the words and ideas your eyeballs are grazing across. How do you not fucking get this? The ide…

Well, when men (and boys) get sexually assaulted/harassed, and the response is "niiiiiiiiiice, I wish my boss did that to me", that is toxic masculinity. When a girl tells a boy to quit being such a pussy, that is toxic masculinity. It is masculinity that is toxic. The idea that men can't be survivors of sexual violence is due to fucked up ideas about what masculinity is. If you quit trying to see yourself as a victim all the time, and read and digest words and their meanings, you might get some…

Holy fuck a reasonable response!

Or... Maybe... Masculinity is something that men have to negotiate, so when shitty (or... Toxic...) attitudes get conflated with "being a man", a term to describe that is necessary. It's not implying it is all men's fault, but rather men are the people who have to deal with this garbage. Nowhere does it imply that women can't perpetuate it.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
