I think I did jump to conclusions a bit based on my personal experience with this question; there is a lot going on in the world these days to be upset about and I’m sure that was unintentionally reflected in the tone of my response. I don’t understand your question though; what do you mean the solution being to look at yourself?

That’s fair, I did just assume that OP was using this on strangers based on my experience with my coworker. Additionally I just don’t think it’s right to assume everyone you believe to be attractive (because attractiveness is entirely subjective from person to person) should be in a relationship, because to me that makes it seem like everyone should aspire to be in one rather than aim for other goals in life, or put that above other goals. I do understand, though, that my first reaction is harsh…

I overheard my coworker use this exact line on a customer the other day...I think it’s creepy and gross. Besides, acting surprised when a girl doesn’t have a boyfriend automatically implies that pretty women should have boyfriends. What if they’re part of the LGBTQIA+ community or don’t want to date? I get it, the line would work IF there is already a hint of mutual interest in one another. But on a stranger? No way.
