You are hitting a very general psychological problem here, but I dont know what you seek to gain from asking these very people about it, anytime someone has a strong opinion about it it will be because of the perspective & experiences they have had on that topic. Gosh that doesn't sound manipulative.I definitely saw it as a selfish thing, but its possible its referring about reciprocation. As in, men usually don't communicate as much on a social & emotional level, so getting what you need could suggest learning how to get an open & emotional relationship, as an example. Or getting the husband to help with the children & the house (if the men think that is a womens thing). Its traditional crap & mostly unnecessary & useless in our current times. When people graduate from college they still wear 18-20th century hats & robes to celebrate.
