You’re absolutely right about that, I’m sorry if I came off harsh. A family friend died of HPV related cancer, so there’s a lot of muscle memory from that angle specifically.

I think it’s the stigma of having an STI and the idea that any HVM will be STI free or they’re not a HVM. Testing and condoms are a must, but I think a black and white statement might be less beneficial. They’re not as easy to avoid as you might think, you can get plenty of STIs with condoms or from oral (without a dental dam), some can take months in your system before the test would show a positive result. STIs are a risk for any sexually active adult.

This vile man then tried to choke me until I blacked out. Now I tell people that I don’t want them to be violent towards me and if it wouldn’t be ok outside of sex I don’t want it in our sex life.

The best gyno I’ve ever seen was a male specialist in painful women’s health conditions (ex. Endometriosis, vaginismus, pelvic floor dysfunction) because of this. There was no “well that shouldn’t hurt therefore it couldn’t hurt”, and actually cancelled a vacation with his wife because a patient had such severe endometriosis and couldn’t live with the idea of her suffering for two more weeks than necessary. My sister trained under him and insisted that I don’t know the half of what he does for h…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
