One fundraising event for each disease. That's why the graph is bad.

Multiple events, but only one for each disease, so it's really misleading.

And according to the PISA study you linked and I am looking at, Finland's gender gap really, really isn't the way you say it is. I just can't believe you're still going at it. Just look at the figures.

And you haven't even given an example of boys not getting the same opportunities as girls. So far you've lied several times about the statistics you yourself provided us. All the while you've been taking jabs at me, accusing me and misinterpreting me. I agree that demographics are useful.
/r/MensRights26/07/14 09:54 PM

No. I will not trust you on that when I have a study in front of me telling me Finland really isn't the worst gapwise. Jordan has the highest gap in favor of girls in two out of three of the figures we're looking at, and in the third it isn't even listed for some reason. I wouldn't be surprised if the gap was close to as large as in math there as well. Colombia could possibly have at least one of the largest gaps, as it has the largest gaps in favor of boys, but then again it has one of the smal…

According to these figures the gaps really aren't that big in math and problem solving, and they don't mention reading. Even the average country has a bigger gap. Edit: You're almost right about the differences in reading, though. In that we have the 5th highest gap, but not the highest as you claimed. Worth noting that girls outperform boys in reading in every single country that took part in this study.

And boys do get the same opportunities to pursue their dreams as girls. Out of experience I did. My whole class did. The school I went to was very supportive and many teachers went out of their way to inspire and encourage us. Equally. I've heard Finnish teachers are more often professionals than teachers in other countries, and that's probably true.
/r/MensRights26/07/14 09:15 PM
1

That is false. The gap in problem solving, for example, is bigger in Bulgaria, UAE, (and by the looks of it) the Czech Republic, Malaysia, Belgium, Russia, Singapore, Denmark, Macao, Uruguay, Austria, Taipei, Korea, Chile, Hong Kong, Serbia, Turkey, Croatia, Portugal, Italy, Japan, Slovakia, Brazil, Shanghai and Colombia. Do I have to name all the countries with a bigger gap than Finland in math, too, or have I proven my point? In math, the gap is actually even smaller than in problem solving. S…

You can skip to the figures mentioned quickly by clicking them in the table of contents starting at page 7 on both pdfs. The I.2.25 figure is on page 73 of the volume I and the V.4.4 is on page 99 of the other.
/r/MensRights26/07/14 08:53 PM

I don't think six year olds are responsible for their future. What are you trying to get at? The differences shown in the figure are small, but you seem to be up in arms about it? Is it really that horrible to see girls outperforming boys in math and problem solving in a few countries by a small margin? And since when are seven year old boys being told that they aren't worth success?
/r/MensRights26/07/14 08:46 PM
2

Exactly, they should have equal opportunity. Why do you keep insinuating I don't want that?
/r/MensRights26/07/14 08:00 PM
2

Well, honestly, as I think I pointed out well enough, I didn't really get what you were trying to say either. Equal opportunity is what society should strive for, and not try to force equal outcome when that might even be impossible. What the figure shows is unequal outcome, but nothing points to unequal opportunity, i.e. the fact that girls are outperforming boys in this case isn't wrong in itself. Unless there's unequal opportunity causing the unequal outcome, then it really isn't that wrong.

Sorry if my links weren't right. Doesn't matter, don't worry about it. I've had long discussions about leveling the playing field: should kids have the same chance to fulfill their dreams? Finland is saying no. That's a disgrace. Where and how is Finland saying no to equal opportunity? I agree it would be a disgrace, yes. No? No what? Tell me how it's not. How what causes these differences isn't wrong? What are the causes, exactly? Or are you asking me to tell you how girls outperforming boys is…

I suppose you meant figure 1.2.25 as there is no 1.1.25 and 1.2.25 is about gender differences. But neither in that figure or the V.4.4 does it show that the gender gap is one of the largest, quite the opposite, actually. Girls outperform boys in Finland according to the figure, but to a much lesser extent than boys outperform girls in most of the countries listed. Girls outperforming boys isn't something to be alarmed about, it's not wrong in itself. If what causes these differences is wrong, t…

That certainly seems to be the way society views them, but I don't agree. We should care about the violence and death and work to end it. Edit: Man, I just noticed how much I'd like to talk about these issues, but for some reason it feels like it wouldn't be my place as someone who doesn't even live in the US or near any place where gang violence occurs.

Fight fire with fire? Create an outrage aimed at the companies bending over to the SJWs, threatening their sales for trying to pander to the loudest group and in doing so encourage and allow the corporations to actually create and sell their own products without being forced to alter them? Well, feminism doesn't really touch anything without its feminists doing the touching for it, does it? In this case it really isn't the ideology doing damage, it's not feminism itself convincing comic writers/game developers/etc to do things differently, it's the feminists bullying them into submission and then getting employees fired and policing their IPs by threatening their reputation.
/r/MensRights04/07/14 02:05 AM

You're taking it too literally now, that's not what I meant. It was tongue in cheek and what I meant with that was that it's really unusual to hear that from them in my opinion.

I've been told by non-TERF feminists that I have male privilege, that I essentially had a easier life start, a boost of "initial conditions" If someone tried to pull that one with me I'd have a good laugh. Had I been born into the same family etc as a girl, then I'd have it a lot better, I would've avoided a lot of violence and a miserable childhood that way.

There can be other things a woman can use to make up for the difference in size and strength, for example weapons and threats, if a violent and controlling woman really wants to control you, she probably can. It doesn't even have to be physical at all, and it can cause the same damage and fear in the victim. We don't judge abusive women in the same way we do abusive men, there's not the same stigma attached to it, so they can go about doing what they do without even realizing what they're doing …

I wonder what that 'widespread' discrimination would be, discrimination, sure, but widespread? Both sexes face sexism and discrimination in their own ways, while women's issues are being worked on, which is great, men's issues are often ignored or even silenced. I'd recommend taking a look at some of the links in the sidebar for some of the issues (real issues, and not the Dreaded Friendzone as some might have you think). Plausible, I guess. The MRM probably does attract its crazies, just as feminism does. Why then do you hold those few against the MRM while glorifying feminism and ignoring its loonies? It's just that I've tried to argue civilly with men's rights folks before. Honestly, I have! Even if it were true, how would it help anyone? Even if there was a reduced risk of contracting the disease, you still shouldn't have unprotected sex with someone who has it. I just don't get why they're doing this in the first place. Besides, couldn't circumcising them and telling them they now have a reduced risk of contracting AIDS encourage them to have unprotected sex and in turn lead to it spreading?

/r/MensRights04/01/14 04:07 PM

I am not a particular fan of Elam, but what he wrote is self evidently satire. To suggest otherwise is absurd. This piece here can not so easily be dismissed as satire. What do you think makes it hard to view it as satire? Do you think a feminist might feel the same about Elam? Most readers of this piece would remember it as an unpleasant commentary on men, rather than primarily a discussion of immigration. True, the comments on the article can attest to that.
/r/MensRights04/01/14 04:05 PM
5

Are you sure that's the stance you'd like to take? I don't mean to be disrespectful, but TIL MRE was completely serious about the Patriarchy Party and those who have a problem with the MRM can go ahead and quote mine the things Paul Elam writes because it can't be satire. But sure, she does sneak in some of her feminist views along with the main point.
/r/MensRights04/01/14 03:23 PM
4

I speak Swedish too, obviously, but I can't help but notice the satire. Just swap the word 'men' with the word 'immigrants' in the text I quoted and you'd have something a right-wing extremist would say, to put things into perspective to them ("If those are valid reasons to deport them according to you, then what's keeping us from deporting you?").

I don't know, calling her a politician makes it sound like she's more than what she really is, she's only some kind of speaker for a youth group connected to a party called Miljöpartiet. Quite a bit is lost in the translation, too. The article is also satire aimed at the extreme right and those who oppose immigration, she begins by pointing it out quite clearly with this: "There is a group in society that are not allowed to talk about. We've all seen them, they've gone in our schools, and some a…

"There are many less radical treatments for this, like stretching the foreskin or topical steroids. Circumcision should be a last resort." You might want to add that in addition to stretching and steroid creams, there are less invasive surgeries too, people often seem to assume that they have to get circumcised when they find that stretching and creams don't work for them.

Still doesn't do it for me. To me victim blaming is dismissing someone's suffering while acknowledging that the victim suffered, as in "I don't feel any sympathy for this girl, I mean, she chose to follow these 4 guys she didn't know back to their place and now she's paying the price." In a case like that it's more like denying anything wrong ever happened and saying there's nothing to blame the victim for. I hope I explained my thoughts better this time.

From my experience, you kind of see your own situation from a different perspective too, and when you're trying to figure out things to say that could help the other person, you might just come up with thoughts that can help yourself. Low self-esteem would be a factor, I guess, they'd probably just assume it's too good to be true, that the other person is just teasing them or that it's a fake profile anyway. I think it's important that we keep in mind that women do have a lot of problems; more problems than we have. And I think that's a bold claim. Just how many problems do you think women face to feel it's safe to say they have more of them than men?
/r/MensRights18/10/13 03:36 PM

The disproportionately high amount of false rape claims by women in comparison to those by men (and no, I don't have any studies around that I could point to in order to back that up) had me assume it was a woman who made the claim when I read the title. That's what made it surprising to me, at least.

Well, if they actually are yours then you obviously won't get away from it either. I guess you just can't get involved with pregnant women, and who knows, maybe even women with young children? If people would start avoiding those women, then I guess matriarchy hurts women too! Huehuehue.

Yep, this was the explanation they had for it: "Mr. Cornelio was the only father the twins knew during the course of the marriage," Judge van Rensburg said. "The relationship that developed from the time of their birth was the natural relationship between a parent and his children.

That people have a hard time defending porn due to them worrying about their image or shaming tactics they'd be subjected to, especially when it's about kinks. The same thing applies when you're talking about magazines full of half-naked women, as them being in them is all about sex too.

I guess it's the fact that most people would be too ashamed to admit that they wouldn't want their porn taken away that makes it such an easy target for censorship, especially if it's some fetish. From what I've seen most people come with arguments regarding principle, attacking the censorship itself without defending the porn.

To be honest, circumcision is a bit too drastic to be called medically necessary in cases of phimosis, there are many ways to treat it and a simple incision leaving the rest of the foreskin intact is enough to fix it. If your whole foreskin was rotting for some reason and there was no other way to stop it from spreading to the rest of your body than getting circumcised, then it's medically necessary. Really.

And the amendment only covers the women's preventive benefit -- employers would not be able to refuse to cover preventive care specific to men for "moral" reasons. Does the male equivalent even exist?

Them only ending discrimination against women would be fine if only the MRM had comparable power, sadly, it does not. To make matters worse, they claim to be working on problems men face (Come to think of it, have you ever heard them call it discrimination? I can't recall having, it's always just problems, which of course are always caused by the men themselves.) just to undermine the MRM, among other things. Edit: Noticed I had left out a few important words.

There's a lot more to the male suicide rates than that, for example, you can put a significant amount of blame on the expectations put on men to provide, men's suicide rates spike in economically trying times, more so than the suicide rates of women, (this is the first thing that came up by googling "male suicide spike economy").

There's no way around being psychologically or economically abusive according to that unless your partner is perfect in every way and never makes any mistakes. Criticism makes you abusive and not criticizing her when criticism is due makes you a "people pleaser", a doormat, which according to this is a form of abuse. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I'd say you're being abused yourself if your partner would force you to meet this impossible standard.

Not to mention that the stats used in posters 1 and 2 are somewhat at odds. Poster one gives a 25% chance that a man will commit violence against a woman while poster 2 says it's a 1 in 3 chance. Actually, the first poster says that most guys have a 25% chance to commit violence against a woman, while the second one says there's a 33% chance that you know some guy who will commit violence against a woman. Afaik, you're right about severe enough cases require some sort of surgery, I wouldn't be surprised if the cases that can be fixed with a creme or something are the exception. I don't think circumcision should be promoted as a solution to it when it can be fixed without damaging that much, though. Edit: I'm not the guy who downvoted you for some reason.

When it is done without medically necessity, yes, I think it is mutilation. However, it's important to remember as I pointed out in the OP, there are in fact legitimate medical conditions that do require circumcision, such as phimosis (graphic content). Circumcision isn't required to treat phimosis though, not by a long shot, actually. There are even ways to treat some cases without getting it under the knife, in fact, there are some examples in the link you provided. :)

I don't have anything apart from this article. There is some information to be picked up from it even though it isn't explicitly stated. I don't need an expert to tell me that there's something terribly wrong with a person's mind if she kills her own children and 'tries' to kill herself when faced with having to give up custody to the father. Perhaps the issue here is how I worded things?
/r/MensRights17/09/13 02:06 PM

That doesn't necessarily mean she would abuse them physically. Sadly they didn't take it seriously enough and I hope this changes the way they do things if it isn't standard procedure to take the children away immediately in cases of parental alienation.

You're right, sorry. I might not see mental instability as something that excuses horrible behaviour personally, but that's obviously not what matters here at all. (I guess this could sound like snark given the context, please keep in mind that it isn't.)

It's absolutely horrifying to see grown people seem to view their children as property like that, as if they're mere objects. But look, as heart-wrenching as it may be, I'm pretty sure this isn't a men's rights issue. The court did what they could do with the information they had and it doesn't seem like any discrimination took place. Edit: I hadn't heard of the term parental alienation before this though, which was interesting to read about, so thanks for posting this here anyway.

Indeed, and if the matter was people not caring about him dying then you could just point out that it's just acting and it wasn't even intended to be dramatic, it's safe to say that people wouldn't care even if you did a gender reversal, so it's not about male disposability nor is it even an issue.

Well, it only benefits those women who'd rather control than have sex, while it makes those who like sex a lot suffer. Heck, some even feel terrible for having sexual urges, so it's really not all that good. It'd be a slap in the face to women who like sex to say that's a privilege, much like us being called privileged because of men being overrepresented in high-end jobs etc. (but still not quite the same if you dissect that). Because Walter is the show’s protagonist, there is a natural tendency to empathize with and root for him, despite his moral failings.
