I think as a society we’re moving in the right way and maybe we’ll have it right in a couple of generations. When I was a child the glaring differences between boys and girls were widely known and accepted. We did housework and I use to say ‘I wish I was a boy then I wouldn’t have to wash up.’ My parents of course said it would make no difference, but my observation as a child didn’t come from nowhere. I don’t western parent my child - which is basically letting them sleep on their own after birth and being hands off as you say. I practice attachment parenting, which is actually becoming more popular and is used for boys and girls. My nearly 8 year old boy still sleeps with me, despite having his own bedroom.
