I’m a freshman in college and I prefer going to bars alone because I’m not being held back by having to “hangout” with my friends. It’s far easier to go in, approach a couple of times, and leave if unsuccessful. Interestingly enough, all of my success has come from going alone to bars. It’s not nearly as bad as you think, and actually quite fun.

Exquisitely written, please write more posts in this style of prose.

By far the best post I've read on this subreddit. I love how it excludes game from its central message, because ultimately, women are not to be prioritized in a meaningful, fulfilling life. I've suffered from excessive, self-improvement mental masturbation. This post made me realize that instead of merely reading feel-good bullshit, I need to actually take action, because we are what we do, and we do what we are. Thanks for this.

I just started college a week ago, moved in four days before classes started. On the third day I was there, I lost my virginity. All I did was flirt with the girl, until she gave me clear IOI's and from there, I escalated, brought her back to my room and we banged. Being drunk might have also played a part in my success.

TLDR: My first sexual experience wasn’t as gratifying as I thought it would be, and revealed what I was actually longing for, which wasn’t sex. It was companionship.

You said that you can’t feel adequate without fucking, but then say you can only gain validation from within. Seems a bit paradoxical.

Clearly the community begs to differ, considering the response this post has generated.

Since I’ve never had a girlfriend, I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea. However, I don’t plan on getting one in college at least as a freshman.

I heard my inner conscience laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation.

I will admit that I have a bit of Holden complex. Also one of my favorite books of all time.

I asked her if it was ok before we actually had sex and she said yes.

I’ve been working on my self-esteem for the past two years when I noticed it started to impact my life negatively.

I don’t actually masturbate as frequently as I once did. I’m sure with more experience I’ll come to appreciate the joys of sex.

Yeah I could have reworded that in retrospect.

Thanks for the response. I believe in practicing stoicism and gradual desensitization to discomfort. However, I don’t subscribe to the notion that you have to suppress your emotions in a vain attempt to be perceived as masculine. Call me a pussy all you want, but at the end of the day if I want to do something, I’ll do it, regardless if someone tells me to ‘grow a pair’.

I’m not opposed to future one-time hookups. I guess I just had greater expectations for how it would play out.

I actually have a lot of hobbies and spend most of my time participating in them. However, when men are deprived of something that we are biologically inclined to do, it’s no suppose that many resort to becoming doormats in a lame attempt to gain female validation.

I think this experience has helped me gain me insight into my issues surrounding attachment. One of the main reasons why I never had any girlfriends or sexual partners in my life was because I became attached too quickly. I have her snap, and I think she said she wants to hang again this week, but if nothing happens I’m not going to revert to obsessing over her.

I actually had the realization earlier, but this experience just reinforced what I already believed about the farce of the “innocent” woman.

While I’ve attempted to cultivate self-fulfilling habits that instill inner resolve, being a teenager definitely made me believe that in order to be adequate, I had to be fucking girls.

I knew that I was chasing validation, but I thought that was only obtainable through companionship, which was obtained via superficial sex.

I think it was an ego problem. Youth culture, especially in the United States, places an inordinate emphasis on the amount of collective sexual experiences one has had. I became too fixated on the false belief that because I’ve never had sex, and everyone I know around me has, that I was somehow inadequate.

Trust me, the experience was enjoyable from a purely physical standpoint,as I got to experiment with different sexual positions that I previously fantasized about. Emotionally, I didn’t feel like it was all that I had envisioned it when I was younger and frustrated with being sexually inexperienced.

I actually don’t watch porn that much anymore. When I was younger (12-16), different story.

I understand your confusion. I should have specified that I’d been deprived sexually all throughout my adolescence.

Great post. I’m actually the poster of the thread you mentioned. For me personally, I’ve been in monk mode for the past 2 years. I lost 45 pounds, gained 15 in muscle, and made exercise and health a core value of my life. I’ve attempted to cut down on superfluous distractions, as well as curtail my vices. However, I was desperately lacking in the social skills to be able to pull girls, as I was unwilling and unable to expand my comfort zone. Now that I’m in college, I’ve had the opportunity to r…

I didn’t feel any sort of emotional connection with the girl, but felt emotionally connected to the feeling of being wanted after going through adolescence void of that feeling.

Just graduated, and a lot of what you said is spot on, especially about HS being a closed system. I spent the first year of high school without much interaction with girls. Sophomore year I formed a co-ed friend group, lost a lot of weight, and improved upon interacting with girls. Junior year I came into my own. I lost even more weight, and accompanying this weight loss came a profound sense of confidence. This confidence was reflected in the amount of girls that I interacted with, which would …

Inspiring post. I've become somewhat addicted to rifling through countless self-help books, articles, and videos. While I have implemented some of it into my life, there's always that underlying feeling of anxiety. Thanks for the encouraging words.

As a current senior in high school, this describes me almost perfectly. I abstain from excessive indulgence, yet still enjoy smoking on the weekends with my friends. However, all my friends are stoners who aren't on my intellectual level, as immodest as that sounds. My question to you is: how do I acquire the "common touch" with girls?
