Truth be told, we don't know why the lifetime figures and the yearly figures are so disparate Ah, I somehow missed the yearly stats in your original post, which were probably the most important part of the whole thing. I apologize. Of course, if male victims had been studied with the techniques we've been using for female victims for nearly thirty years, we might understand why. Does that count as negative-to-men rape culture? Certainly seems that way.

So if I understand correctly, women are three times more likely to be victims of rape (18% vs 6%) than men?

Sure.

How my understanding is because they were fighting for a person they never voted for so gaining rights to vote for the commander and chief would make sense. Well that clears that up.

I don't think that (2) is true.

Actually it's more like wondering why male actors collectively get paid more than female actors.

And this is where the subreddit goes from a legitimate criticism of family law to flat out insanity.

I think it's pretty clear from his not knowing that a whites only restaurant would be illegal that he actually has little knowledge of the history of race in the US and no idea what went on during the civil rights era.

Actually these cars exist in response to ridiculously high levels of sexual harassment such as groping, exposure, following girls home, etc, on public transportation. The fact is that this stuff is very common even in the US and some places it's much worse. These cars aren't PC bullshit they are a response to a real problem.

The inequalities you "See" are the result of the fundamental differences (physically) between men and women. Of course men are (in most respects) more physically capable than women. But it doesn't follow that this physical difference is the cause of the pay gap.

The institutions are sexist because they produce sexist outcomes. I think we are talking past each other. I'm not concerned with blaming specific actors (professional sports leagues, TV networks, the NCAA, individuals within such organizations, parents, whatever). The point is that there is a clear gender inequality in sports. Thus, we need broad measures to combat this inequality.

Clearly salaries are controlled more or less by market forces, and in some sense by the collective decisions of society as a whole. Thus, political action such as Title IX is an appropriate means to address the inequality. The exact mechanics of how the salaries are determined is irrelevant.

How is that relevant?

Compare salaries of female athletes to salaries of male athletes.

I think that's it's safe to say that to the extent that there is actually a problem for women in tech, everybody in this subreddit is the problem.

There are just less of them than there are men. That is exactly what the feminists' complaint is.

Sports is still one of the most institutionally sexist (against women) fields that there is, so repealing Title IX would be premature to say the least.

That's because it's just 20 useless news articles all citing the same study. You only need to read one (or better yet the study itself).

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
