Except that's not how it works because the nail polish won't pick up most date-rape drugs. So really, it just gives women a false sense of security which in turn means they're more likely to leave a drink unattended or to accept a sketchy drink. That, in turn, means it's more likely to increase the danger. So it's a fair amount of effort to increase the risks of being drugged. That doesn't sound good to me.

I see you paint your nails frequently and therefore have great authority on the amount of effort it would take.

Feminists were outraged. Why? It didn't have a good plan to jail more men. No, feminists were outraged because it places more responsibility on women and therefore will lead to more blame on victims. A 'good plan' to combat rape doesn't need to jail men (although ideally, rapists will be jailed). One such plan that got support from feminists was the 'Who are you' ad that suggested onlookers speak up if they see a person who is clearly too drunk to consent being led by someone who clearly is sobe…

Being a feminist isn't a red flag. As a feminist, thank you for this. I think the red flag, however, was that the girl said she became a feminist because she was cheated on. That suggests to me that she has no real understanding of what feminism is and was just choosing a new term to justify a fucked up world-view.

Thank you - I'm glad I posted in here for your response alone. As to the feminists groups, I have two points: With a word like 'feminist' that has wide-spread respect, lots of people are going to use it and they won't all represent me. I would say any group that actually doesn't want men is one of those crazy ones. The derailing for most groups, I think, comes from how men's perspectives are brought up. When talking about women's issues, noting the similar ones that guys face is often used to tr…

That's not what I said and I'm sorry if it came across that way. I, personally, think that the issues facing women are greater than those facing men (this isn't to say that the issues facing men aren't important) but there's no point arguing over which has it worst. All it means, is that I should put most of my time into the feminist cause. Other people will think that the issues facing men are worse, so they should put most of their time into the MRM. I've added emphasis to that quote to show w…

I could argue this further with you, but it seems like you've made up your mind and so nothing I can say will change your mind. And your arguments aren't persuasive to me either, so it'd be a waste of time. More importantly, it's all pretty unimportant. What it comes down to is: do you agree that there are things in society that should be changed to improve women's rights? You may think these are less important than the things that need to be changed to improve men's rights but it doesn't actual…

Uh, so someone who called themselves a feminist did something shitty and that means all feminists are? You know, that can also apply to the MRM and, well, every group of people (except, perhaps, babies).

Oh, sorry for misunderstanding. Thank you so much for your incredibly insightful comment then.

It's mostly ignorance - there are extremists that stand out. I mean, you click on the comments of the top rated and get people claiming that women are just after money and a user with 'whore' in the name. Inform us of what MRA actually is and I think you'll find almost all feminists change their tone.

Breasts aren't sexual objects. They're considered sexual parts in our society but that's completely arbitrary. A penis and a vagina are sexual parts because they're needed for reproduction - anything else isn't. A man's adam's apple develops in puberty - is that a sexual part? In some cultures, ankles are considered sexual. If you call yourself an egalitarian, and you consider this the biggest issue you need to deal with, than you are blind to a whole slew of other issues that are far more damag…

Women not being able to go topless everywhere, despite men not being able to expose their dicks either, seems like such a joke of an issue. No one is being hurt from these laws. First off, women being topless is not comparable to men exposing their dicks. It's comparable to men being topless. I acknowledge this isn't a huge problem (the breastfeeding one is slightly more-so). The point is that there are minor law changes that will still be needed at some point in time. Most people will want to f…

I'm sorry that I won't be able to give this much of a response. I'm hoping that a reply I gave to another person here will address this response adequately enough. The main point though is that I phrased it wrong - "greater" was the wrong word. I think the issues facing women are more daily issues whereas the issues facing guys are probably bigger but less common.

I'm absolutely not trying to say that men's problems aren't serious, so please keep that in mind. And I would strongly disagree with anyone who says that. I'm also going to apologize - I also appreciate your great attitude towards the discussion - but I'm not going to be able to give this the time it deserves because of all the other comments I've received. So, I'll just briefly go through the issues you're talking about: Suicide rates - I agree. We need to do something about this; in my country…

If you're going to argue something, you have to be prepared to link actual sources. I have already given you a link to several sources that suggest the pay gap is real. Also, if you look at how many responses I've received, you'll hopefully see why I don't have time to read through a pile of google links to try to find one that might be reliable.

I'm not arguing against MRA or MRM. But if your entire exposure to the movement is misogyny, then it's a reasonable response to not want to date a guy who was involved in it. It's like if someone was only exposed to the Westboro Baptist Church and then said they hated Christianity. They're not being hateful, they're being ignorant, which is good because ignorance can usually be helped quite easily.

I'll try to tackle each of your points; first, I have never heard of #killallmen. And I don't believe those tags represent feminism. There are fringe elements of MRM but it would be stupid to discredit the whole movement because of a bunch of stupid extremists. Do you hate Christianity because of the Westboro Baptist Church? Do you also hate all Americans, since they are also American? I'll acknowledge that the legal issues aren't as important in most Western states and may not be important at a…

I would imagine that that poster was talking about /r/MRA which is depressingly misogynistic, considering there are serious issues that they would be better off discussing. And you're right, I have no proof that it's people from TRP. But most of the views align with the views commonly expressed in TRP and since they cross-post twox threads, they clearly take the time to read the threads at least.

Obviously the legislation thing will depend on where 'here' is. But for the most part, I will agree that feminism doesn't need to make legal changes. I say "for the most part" because again, it depends on where you are and I doubt that there is nothing that needs to be changed anywhere. In my country, the definition of rape may need to be fixed (currently, it's only penetration with a penis, I believe, which could be problematic depending on how rape convictions compare to sexual assault convict…

From a historical standpoint, I would be interested in what makes you say that. I gather 'feminism' was first used just to mean the state of being feminine but the first time it had a goal was at the end of the 19th century, when women were fighting for the right to continue to be a legal entity after marriage, to have legal rights over children and to not be treated as a prostitute (ie, forcibly checked for STDs) for walking in the wrong area.

I'm probably going to regret commenting here, but we'll see. First thing you should know is that I'm a feminist and I disagree with your criticism of feminism. I think where we disagree is on the idea that the pendulum has swung further than it should have. I absolutely agree that there are serious issues facing men - domestic abuse and child-custody being major. The rape allegation is a difficult one: I want to see anyone who makes a false claim punished but we also have to consider that we don…
