for those of you who read this before the edit...I do still "turkey" appreciate the time you took to read the OP.....hahaha! I can't believe I didn't catch that until now. ;)

No worries, justanotherusername4! Thank you for the compliment. I know what you mean about "keeping a reaction in mind for future use", so I'm flattered. I've been collecting my own favorites from good friends over the years (since my upbringing wasn't exactly bountiful in the tact department...lol!)

I'm so glad you re-posted TheMrs_! This is wonderful! I think this is exactly what is going on. It is so helpful that you explained this: "When my husband is doing something nice for me, he will step in and take care of the kids or housework and allow me to relax because he knows I like it. If I do the same for him, he feels unneeded, unwanted, and unloved." When I try to get everything done to prevent him from having to step in (or when I feel guilty that I can't get everything done myself), I …

I like the territories idea. I do want to point out that I never said he acts like a spoiled child, so I feel your suggestion about my husband's character is quite an overstep. This post is about me, and I believe that is clear. Please re-read to see that what I'm saying is: in my attempts to serve my husband well, I feel like I'm failing by accidentally treating him the way a parent would spoil a kid. If that isn't clear above, I'm glad at least for the opportunity to clarify here.

Thanks for the comment. I'm definitely big on the complimenting. I tell him he's handsome and complement his other qualities every day. I'm quite in awe of him and I definitely make that apparent. I think it's more of a subtext I'm communicating to him by what I'm doing myself. In some ways, I think the complementing him when he's stepping in with these tasks is backfiring because it reinforces the idea that he's doing me some kind of big favor instead of just taking something on as part of the …

This is great advice! Thank you! We move around a lot (sometimes across the country) and I was recently promoted from a very small part time job to a very demanding full-time job that I (thankfully) still work from home. Moving and unpacking is a big upheaval of our daily routines/responsibilities, as is the new working situation. I think I've been uncomfortable to ask for a renegotiation because it feels a bit like I'm asking him to do more of what was previously established as "my work".

Thanks, MsSadieDunham! I definitely think my buzzing around taking care of things is being interpreted as not trusting him. I don't think I'm particularly controlling when he does step in, but I think you are right that I've accidentally been mothering him!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
