What does "showing empathy" look like? Sending a get well card? Or going over to her house, holding her while she cries and staying the night because she's scared?

Yeah, I am wondering about this. I think I usually punch up. It seems my options are to do that and be jealous or settle and not care. I'd rather be single I think.

Yeah, such as liking her terrible poetry on social media or something.

How does he shut it down? I don't know if I am choosing men out of my league or what but it seems they get hit on and I don't. When I am with someone, I somehow turn off that "receptive" vibe. I don't get hit on when I'm in a relationship, only after or in between LTRs. My exes meanwhile, do NOT turn off that receptive vibe and do not handle the attention with grace, imho. I'm not sure what happened to society to turn women into sexual predatory behavior but it's shocking!!

Fuck these flirty ass women though that have no shame! In my world, it's these stupid yoga chicks that go around asking if they can hug people (strange how it's always men, but ok). At burning man (I know, I regret going), they go around TOPLESS DOING THIS and trying to pretend it's all NAMASTE WE ARE ALL ONE!!!111!! Like, fuck off lady!!

:O *slow clap edit: also back of my mind (mm...the sex is probably not that good. Or he is much lower value than her etc)

Here is a perfect example. They don't list this guy's age until the end. How old would you guess him as? https://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/police-arrest-alleged-cowboy-dine-and-dash-suspect-at-restaurant-table

He was with a female friend and she heard the whole thing, inlcuding the part about his age. If she hadn't been there, I would have thought it was a joke or a lie. It seems common where I"m from though, and it's not a hot climate either. These guys look twice their age before they hit 40

If you're fucking 37, no. I met a guy out last week who was chatting me up. I replied to be polite, I assumed he was over 60 due to his facial skin. At one point he mentioned his age and I almost choked on my drink. Some of you all are aging fucking TERRIBLY holy shit.

I am 35. How have I not considered this? I feel dumb. Well...actually no. I grew up in a bad neighborhood and had default friends who were not good people. Now I am on guard about friends. I also had exes who had really shitty humans as friends IE obsessed with social media and faking things on Instagram etc. It is hard to tolerate friends when you hate everyone. But I do think you are right :(

How did he not know? For example, I have a guy friend I have had for many years. I am certain he does not like me in that way. He never invites me to do things (I always invite him), he does not compliment me on anything other than work merit (and mildly), he does not do favors for me (I've tried to get him to because I am lazy haha) and he does not keep in regular contact with me. If he were to come out and say "OH I've liked you this whole time", ok well, I admit I know shit all then. Look at …

LOL you know I have been seeing your responses around and developed a bit of a crush on you. Mild disappointment when I realized you were a 50yr old woman, not in the least bit surprised you're an INTJ. HAHAHAHA okay I am not a bunch of broccoli, I just hate people being inauthentic. As in, don't say you want to just hang out with someone while in reality you're getting warm fuzzy feelings about it and everyone else can tell. Have some self respect lmao. Congrats on your sperg badge. I could ado…

How did you "deal with" it? Did you continue to invite them to do things with you one-on-one? How did you react when they got an SO? How did your SO react to you spending time with your crush/"friend"? I seriously don't understand this and it seems like this is holding me back in life. The men I date all have orbiter women. My girl friends have orbiter men who asked them out and got friendzoned and now are at their beck and call. I refuse to participate in that shit and I am lonely. You seem lik…

It's at the point where a man says to himself "What more does she want?" that he decides he's not going to marry her. Valuable to know. Thank you!

I'd wager you'd want someone to accept you for you. Well yes. But I also want someone to challenge me, notice my blind spots and be there while I willingly grow through them. Not accept a crystallized and unchanging version of the person I am today, no.

Your guy is in many aspects still a kid. He seem emotionally dependent on his parents and I guess he hasn't gone through a 'rebelion' phase in his teens. I risk to say that he may have suffered some sort of psychological abuse by his parents during his childhood - or at least they were overprotective and overcontrolling (hellicopter parents) and didn't let him grow up. You would be right about that! I have tried mentioning how much therapy has helped me and WHEWWWW!!! he got mad that I was even …

Sigh. He is perfect. Except when this side of him and I clash, I want to run as far away as humanly possible from him. It's usually little things, like with hygiene for example. He hasn't kissed a woman or anything in 10 years. There were some hygiene issues at first. I tried to talk to him politely/gently about it and he'd get pissed. Or if I try to talk to him about why he was single for long, how he felt about women during that time, why his ex was so "crazy" etc, he gets this cold demeanor, …

It feels like when I try to talk to him about anything not positive, he instantly turns rigid and cold, turned off and defensive. How can you plan a life with someone you can't talk to about unpleasant things??? :( On the other hand, I wonder if I'm going about it the wrong way? I do not nag or complain.

I know. I'm reading your responses here and I'm shaking my head at myself. He is SUCH an amazing person, I haven't even mentioned some other amazing things about him, honestly because they'd be too revealing. I feel so horrible. But I'm saying.... he was an incel for a very long time. There are still undercurrents of that mindset that peek through now and then and it is really concerning to me. Nobody is perfect, I know. And I feel he might be the closest I'm going to get but........ my intuitio…
