They hand out student loans like candy in this country. It's part of the reason tuition and other costs of higher education have skyrocketed. As for the credit cards, as long as you keep paying some of the balance you can keep a line of credit up. Most of the time, you can apply for other credit cards. Banks are more than happy to let people fall into never-ending debt, as long as they keep getting paid back tenfold.
