He's a coworker based in another country - so he left the country to go back to his home office shortly after. He's coming back to work on a 6month project with me this week - so we'll see how it goes. I have such a hard time dealing with conflict when it illicits such a strong emotional response (pure rage). I'll try some breathing techniques and think of canned responses ahead of time.

On average, they’re pretty receptive to the opener. I make observations. Usually like trying to guess something about them. Then once they start giving me material I’ll go into random stories about the topics they give me. Im still new, so minor curve balls cause me to eject prematurely. As for the observational opener, I’ve tried that before, but i can’t do it consistently. I usually succumb to hesitation if i try some kind of non-mundane opener. I’ll try to think of something for too long.

Get over your fear of losing her. It's definitely holding you back.

Wait, hold on. Are you saying your third date had sex and no kissing?

Your last two sentences sound a bit clingy. It's OK to sacrifice one evening in order to do something your good friend really enjoys. It's a good sign of a healthy, non-egotistical friendship. Also, you want her to have stuff going on apart from you, right?

Hey man, I think you should stop hanging out with her if she tells you in advance that it will be platonic. Be straightforward / honest about that. Also, there's no changing the fact that you have feelings at this point. You should probably figure out what's been going so rough lately with her and ask her what's the current deal with the other guy. The risk here is that she's using you as an emotional crutch.

Thanks! I think you're right about calling them out. But the delivery has to be calm. I assume the first retort would be something along the lines of "why are you getting so offended? Can't you take a joke", which would be disarmed by a calm demeanor. I think I really struggle with tempering the emotion.

I do feel like i should have had either witty insults / comebacks OR an assertive statement along the lines of "You're being very annoying".

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
