It's your right to request a same gendered doctor and anyone who ridicules or resists isn't being a professional or ethical. I have had no problem when women on my ob/gyn rotations don't want me doing the exam or being in the room. The vast majority don't care what my gender is, but I have no problem and take no offense to any who didn't want me there. I never even ask a reason, it's their right as a patient. It is wholly unethical for a doctor or nurse to forcibly give someone an erection. Issues like this and recent stories of very invasive forced medical exams of rectums and vaginas make me sick. Working with kids is great, they've got none of the bullshit adults carry with them. Teaching is a great career. Don't let anyone hold you back because of expected gender norms. You can teach more than just middle/high if you're a man, you can go for elementary if you want. PreK as well. There's a large contingent of women's rights to (rightfully so) get upset and make those who brush off female rape pay a social price.
