For different reasons, different activities and different times in someone’s life. When it does the gentlemanly thing to do is to say I hope you feel ok I don’t want you to worry about it. I personally would have said sorry but only like you do it you accidentally drop and break something. Sounds like this person treated it as a horrific disgusting thing which is rude.
