For many men, myself included, we get purpose and meaning from "fulfilling our duty". It's not "duty" in the sense of coerced drudgery, but more we find joy in having a purpose outside ourselves. For many men, love and duty are not separate things; love pulls us forward, duty pushes us from behind. But in the same direction.

Right? It's like people thing flirting is about being sexual right off the jump. Flirting is about playfully signaling interest, and you don't have the be gross to do that. Ex. of a terrible flirt "that's a pretty dress, it'd look great on my bedroom floor" Ex. of a better one: "That's a pretty dress, it looks good on you" Then you pay attention to her response before contiuing. If she looks disgusted and moves away, definitely not interested. If she accepts the compliment, but doesn't elaborate…

Because it was never meant to be a descriptive term. It's prescriptive. They coined it to legitimize their worldview of all men as oppressors (as opposed to the historical reality of a very small ruling class of men oppressing everyone, men and women alike)

Something similar happened to me, except she converted while we were dating ( I never asked her to) but then 10 years later she says it was all an act and doesn't believe in God anymore and wanted a divorce. Turns out there was another guy who's an atheist so...
