I guess I should add that "mansplaining" can be "a man, trying to be helpful and decent by explaining." So "the alternative" would be "not being helpful and decent."

Perhaps when accused of "mansplaining" the response can be "it beats the alternative."

I wish she was allowed to finish explaining the different types of female circumcision.

Neat! This is getting legs! I pretty much expected this to go nowhere. I like the idea of something limited to the United States that spells out the gender based issues that need to be resolved for both men and women. And it might also list red herrings like the wage gap. A document or infographic that could be regarded as a bit of an olive branch between the two communities.

I think there is a lot of ugliness like the Hugh Mungus thing. And I think there are lot of decent women that call themselves "feminists" that would like to hear about our issues. I think there is some "high road" content on this subreddit, and I am grateful for that. Just like how the Hugh Mungus guy did not get hostile in the face of such hostility.

So who is "Nicole Eramo" and why does she get $3m?

I read it. I'm lost. Could somebody explain this to me like I'm five?

Perhaps there can be two subreddits. One that is moderated and one that is not. I would prefer the one that is moderated.

I like the idea that we demonstrate what we would like to see from them.

I seem to have been downvoted. Is this an inappropriate request?

I would like to have a list of five things that are the most persuasive to somebody that has never considered that there is an issue. I would think the top of the list would be the draft. Second on the list would be suicide rate.

I guess there would be a site that might list (with links): 1) the draft 2) in 2010, men were raped more than women (hint: prisons) 3) The 30% wage difference is really 2% 4) men are raped by women; it happens more often than you think; and when they report it, they are not taken seriously 5) reproductive rights heavily favor women: women can choose an abortion, choose to give away the child or choose to keep the child; women can even choose to lie about birth control; men have no choice. 6) Rap…

I should have pointed out: I'm looking for something to send out. It seems about once a week I run into somebody that talks about rape being only a man raping a woman thing. Or they talk about the 30% earnings gap. Or ... whatever. And I would like to send them a link to something that calmly, coolly, professionally explains a few of the issues.

True. And, at the same time, there is no other clear metric. This would be replacing one flawed system with a less flawed system (although still less than perfect).

I think staying at home with the kids is a privilege. The trick is, that the demands of a career mean that you kinda have to choose all-in or all-out. So staying at home with kids full time does have downsides, and does get to have it's own stresses.

When I think about this and apply it to the scenario where women choose to be a full time housewife or stay-at-home mom ... then it seems there is certainty that there will never be divorce. And with this change, there certainly isn't any divorce-bait. I'm certain that my divorce happened because other women convinced my wife of a life with fabulous riches for getting divorced. She was a full time mom, although the kids were in school all day. Now she has to work - just like the rest of us.

Currently, divorce seems to be something that makes a lot of money for lawyers. I wonder how our society would change if our laws were different. What would things be like if there was no such thing as child support. And during divorce, the children always went to the highest income earner and the other parent gets every-other-weekend visitation. And what if property were divided by a licensed "divorcer" that examined what was brought to the marriage and what was brought in by each person during…

Happened to me. I was very lucky that my lawyer was excellent and her lawyer was terrible - everything ended up with my income stated as-is. None of the crazy imputed stuff. Up to the trial, my lawyer and all the other legal advice was "you're screwed - get used to it."

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
