It doesn't even have to come straight from the parents, it's sufficiently ingrained in our culture that kids still enforce this in most places, although I agree that it's getting better. They stop jerking off for long periods of time, lowering their T and making them feel more mentally healthy. They think this will work for others since it worked for them, but that isn't really how it works. They also seem to think that not jerking off for long periods of time is actually increasing their testosterone, which is a little sad.
