You'll be able to trust women, just in a different way. You'll be able to trust their predictability, but obviously you won't be able to trust them in the way you formerly thought you'd be able to, as you might trust one of your best male friends. During the anger phase you'll still have women on the pedestal, only in a different way - letting the anger about women's shortcomings control you. The next step is to understand that they don't define you, at least it was for me. That's why you'll see…

You'll find a better girl. Main point, though, is you'll find her because she'll be attracted to the respect you have for yourself.

All good points. Analogies are rarely perfect, that's why they are just analogs :) I agree with you that theft is a more egregious offense, especially if it were combined with physical harm. But since we're going down the rabbit hole into some philosophical/political concepts here, I would also say that your definition of "human right", or "fundamental right" is also nothing more than a voluntary contract that we enter into. It's supported, in this case, by a law, but nobody is struck down insta…

My issue is that I cannot make the leap from "this immoral act is going to happen anyway" to "therefore I might as well be the one to benefit from it". I'm not trying to be pious or anything, because I might very well choose to benefit in other situations (we all have) to different degrees, I just don't agree with it here - mostly, what I don't agree with is that it's an amoral situation. If you want to argue either side, that's fine, but to pretend it's not a moral issue at all is strange to me…

I agree with most of this, but my opinion is that the reason it enters into the "social degradation" territory is that it'd be much less likely for the woman to decide to cheat if she knew there weren't so many guys out there who thought it to be amoral to fuck a married woman. Just like in my example above, a guy mugs another guy and steals his Rolex. Walks up to you and asks you to buy it for $50. The real crime is the stealing (the decision of the wife to cheat). But if the guy knew that nobo…

You seem to be overlooking the thought that morality is a spectrum. You're essentially saying that no action can really be judged because all of our actions are harmful to someone, somewhere. That sounds like a rationalization for an action you know to be harmful rather than a legitimate argument. It's fine if you think fucking a married woman is completely moral - that's your opinion, and more than a few here share it - but I haven't really read a convincing reason yet in this thread. Deep down…

I think the OP understands perfectly well. A code of honor that's there to keep your own promises might very well include not fucking another man's wife. Being faithful to your spouse is a social contract; a convention, just the same as not participating in the adultery. You've provided an opinion that includes this not being a part of your code, but you've provided no rationale other than to say "it's not my responsibility", which is a pretty bare assertion. Doesn't mean it's " wrong", its just…

Immoral men make pleas to pragmatism and call it amoral. I agree with this, and I also agree that we're all human and it's certainly possible I'd do the same thing if the conditions were ripe. However, I do not believe in objective moral facts about the world, meaning that morality isn't true or false. It's conventional. It aids cooperation. But that doesn't mean that one has no basis to call anything moral/immoral. It's true that you have to have a goal in mind, though, to call anything im/mora…

Thanks, all good, man. I much prefer these types of discussions on TRP than "I neg-ed this plate and she instantly jumped on my dick, bro! AWALT, amirite?" type deals. I think there's something to be said for a good healthy argument among men. We're so damn competitive sometimes we forget we're all in this together. But as you imply, the point shouldn't be to "win", but to gain some insight.

...you're disagreeing with people all over this thread. You're trying to make this too much of an objective truth rather than an opinion. And look, I think I get what you're saying, a little bit: It's beta to be the philosopher type that sits around and moralizes all the time, or only wishes to win petty arguments, etc...and it's alpha to, instead, take care of your own business, create something (I get the sense that maybe you've read Ayn Rand recently...), and act out the philosophy you believ…

It's an interesting paradox. I've internalized it as "committing to improvement is the acceptance" (mumbo jumbo, perhaps, but these definitions are just language games); whether it's your physique, job, woman, or knowledge, at any one point in time you can look at yourself and say that you're being the best that you can be. Knowing that you'll be better in the future - or just different - shouldn't diminish where you are now. Once you have this confidence, everything will change. It did for me. …

Outcome independence works as an overall mindset, not just with women. Though it's very difficult to internalize. It's cliche, but it really is about the process IMO. You'll be thankful later that nobody gave you what you wanted at the very beginning; instead you worked your ass off, earned it, and took it.

One has to make a choice at some point, IMO. Or, at least, one has to understand that in order to live any kind of happy and fulfilling social life, realism/pragmatism must take precedence over idealism, almost all the time. That's what TRP is to me, at least when it comes to relationships with other people. “How we live is so different from how we ought to live that he who studies what ought to be done rather than what is done will learn the way to his downfall rather than to his preservation.”…

I think you're underestimating a bit how difficult it can be to grow up poor, especially in the inner city. The schools there are pretty bad, and that's if a kid doesn't have to drop out in order to be another provider for his family. Anyway, we're mostly on the same page. Lots of times the two go hand in hand. I don't have any studies handy but I'm sure there are plenty more out there.

Flipping logic would go something like this: The reason they made these bad decisions is because they grew up poor and didn't have access to decent education. Now, you could then say that the person's parents made bad decisions, and that's why they're poor, but then we go off into an infinite regress. It's a chicken/egg thing. So if a 2 parent, poor household is better than e.g. a single mother middle class household, it would have to be because the poor household had parents with responsibility…

"You can still be the biggest jerk ever. Many times all I want to do is punch you but, I wouldn't want you any other way". This is extremely common in my experience, if you're taking care of your business. If I had a nickel for every time my girl said a variation of this (usually it's "you're lucky you're cute..."), I'd be a rich man.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Demonstrating you don't need her is much clearer/easier in hindsight, but seems like a huge risk in the moment. It takes a long time to program yourself to be fully confident in walking away, whether it's from a woman, a job, a deal, whatever.

Agreed. I'm also in an LTR with a relatively logical woman, and as I read through TRP I'm thinking "good thing my girl isn't very much like that" - but it's almost like I'm just waiting on the confirmation of AWALT. Even if she doesn't end up being like most women, having the understanding that your guard should always be up, and on the lookout, for AWALT traits keeps me on my toes. I do believe there's a gradient of AWALT, and I can see the shit tests creep in from time to time (especially duri…

Great post. I had a similar experience and upbringing, with a very similar outcome in personality - trouble with finishing things, hard time having conviction with much of anything. I could think the hell out of some philosophical issues, but it gets you nowhere if you don't have the direct experience. Dad was in the picture until I was 13, but was narcissistic, selfish, and didn't teach me much about being a man. Moreover, my mother is very logically minded for a female, which I love, but it's …

Agree. As I read through this I was thinking that, defined in this manner, AMALT, too. To me, the point is to know that women are not typically loving in an unconditional way, as their "softness" is portrayed, i.e. the pedestal doesn't usually exist. It doesn't mean it's wrong, per se, because men are the same way, IMO.

Have to disagree, this woman is just a really crappy person, not all women are like that. Yeah, I know, RP says AWALT...maybe some of that's true, but the huge bias of this sub is that lots of people who are attracted to it are people who have been burned, or are young and have seen immature women, thus are much, much more likely to believe AWALT based on their experiences...most who have not been burned have no reason to come here. Just a reminder to take these concepts as one part of a larger …
