Welcome to the sub. There is a general understanding that, while not all feminists are like this, the majority only fight for women's rights. I think there is an unspoken rule here that when we sy "feminist" we don't mean people who advocate fair treatment for both genders, and fights for both genders equally. Let's not forget their underlying motto: "Feminism is the pursuit of equality in regards to women's rights" . If you're not female, this doesn't apply to you, which is why it doesn't fight for equal rights for both genders so much as equal rights for women specifically. The most radical ones go even further and fight against men's rights

Here's what I think. I (personally) think that you're wrong. If anything, red pill is the exact OPPOSITE of the MRM. It promotes traditional gender roles and diminishes people to the gender they play, and ignores the fact that "men" or "women" are simply categories, and the people in those categories are individuals, and diminishing their individuality and say that they "all behave like this" is as close as you can get to the definition of sexism

Yup, that model (upon researching it a bit) is fucked up. And yes it is true that not much (or really nothing) has been done for men's rights, but that doesn't mean feminists aren't supporting it. They just aren't supporting it with as much rigor as women's rights.

I think it might just be that they don't see it as much. Like they might just ignore them, or maybe they're not under attack constantly by them like men's rights activists are. Like I said, the radicals are the ones who speak out the most. In a way, the men's rights movement is radical because it also tries very hard to get its voice heard. Does that mean that our governments are actually listening to these people? Maybe. Or they ignore them. But that doesn't mean that feminists overall are mostly radical

I just don't think that it's necessarily most feminists that are like this. My understanding is that moderate feminists are into equality for both genders. Yes, some feminists are pushing for gender quotas, and I don't agree with that, but I doubt that it's the majority of feminists. Radical feminists are usually the most vocal of feminists

Yeah, but I mean, if you're learning about it, it's best to take something that actually has a job opportunity. I mean, you should definitely take some classes just for fun/learning, but not all. Women's studies isn't necessarily all radical feminists, but it has quite a lot I think. Or maybe not. Idk it's all speculation really

IMO, when ppl say that FGM isn't comparable to MGM, they're usually saying it to try and justify MGM, or to make it seem more pleasent. It's not. What I know for sure, and what pisses me off always, is this: Women's genitals are protected at every level of government, from municipal to international (UN), but males' genitals are mutilated at the whim of parents. My bad. I didn't think that it would come of ass being dismissive of women's issues. However, I don't think FGM should be receiving this much attention when MGM is common practice everywhere. Few countries practice FGM anymore, Egypt just happens to be one of them. If we lived in an equal society, we would've stop mutilating both genders. Obviously that isn't true

One thing I would like to mention. Circumcision actually doesn't even reduce the number of patients with UTIs that much. One study found that in fact, it would take an astonishing 195 circumcisions to prevent a single hospitalization for UTI. The reason people think that it does a lot to prevent UTIs is because that same study found that circumcisions reduce the chance of UTIs by about 2.5 times. Are you kidding? 30% of males are circumcised. How is that in any way low? If you mean female circumcision, then yes, the rates are low (3%), but that still translates into over 100 million girls. The top comments are actually saying how awful it is. It's weird that the OP had put it in /r/funny. Amazingly, most people are on board with banning this procedure. One guy even said it was a hot-button issue on reddit, so it means that the message is going through about men's rights with circumcision! All-in-all, I think it's raised a lot more awareness for the subject instead of demonizing it.
