I understand your position. My view is that there's no such thing as power vacuum, so if good people like you retreat from trying to control the state, then evil people will. Your hope is that making the government small will be a defense but I'd rather that the good guys hold the reins of power and keep the bad guys down.

The social welfare systems of Japan, Korea and the West are underfunded because women didn't have children thirty years ago. Minors are someone's responsibility. The role of the father is to assume that responsibility and the associated authority. We all agree that women are moral minors (i.e. the oldest teenager in the house), which is why the husband had authority over and responsibility for his wife as well.
