Choice supportive bias Applies both to parents and men who had circumcision chosen for them. This has been pretty much the entire reason for the search for "medical benefits" that we've seen in the last century.

I appreciate the response, and I'm glad that you've pointed out the weaknesses in my position. I certainly don't mean that everyone should take this approach at all times. I think different angles will work better for different audiences. If someone has the training and acumen to deeply analyze the research out there, then it's incredibly valuable if they can fight on that front. I guess I was speaking to people like myself who aren't scientists by profession, and who often argue against fellow …

I don't see why anyone would defend such a barbaric practice, really. I haven't talked to anyone who would defend it. Unfortunately people do defend it, and it's even understandable why they do. No one wants to believe that a practice they thought was harmless, and has permanently altered their body, is actually barbaric and senseless. Likewise if they've done it to their children. Doctors and scientists are not immune to this either. As you say though it does seem to be dying out, even in the U…

This is in a single province in South Africa. Apparently over 70 boys died last year in circumcision ceremonies in this one province. Something people should be aware of, especially the "FGM is so much worse because girls actually die from it" people. They will always compare US circumcision to African FGM, and completely ignore African circumcision. Not surprising though because human rights organizations seem to ignore the existence of African circumcision as well.

Paragraphs 16 and 19, small lacerations and alterations of the clitoral hood and labia minora. Arguably same level of damage as a typical circumcision, or less. Still being prosecuted as FGM and making dozens of headlines.

If it were clipping the clitoral hood, I bet it would be far less controversial, but that's a hypothetical. Actually there is a highly publicized FGM case going on in Detroit where that is all the doctor did. She is facing 5 years for FGM and possible life because they're treating it as a sex crime as well. The criminal affidavit describes the damage done to the victims.

A friend might take away a friend's weapon if he is doing harm to himself. In a way you are harming yourself by giving pro-cutters ammunition to use against intactivism. Have you tried talking to someone you trust IRL about MGM?

As crass as my articulation may be, I am using WORDS. TO TRY TO MAKE PEOPLE FEEL SOMETHING. Unfortunately most people are going to feel derision, ridicule or defensiveness due to your word choices. There's an obvious disconnect between humans that don't see children as humans, but rather as property. Yes, but I think you're unfairly putting people in the group that treat children as property, and then heaping abuse on those who don't deserve it. Not berating them on the way they express their pa…

You aren't the only one who has been subjected to MGM. What you are doing is only going to lead to more censorship on all of us. Is that what you want?
/r/MensRights07/07/17 09:21 PM

Also please try to understand that a common tactic of pro-circs is to paint intactivists as mentally unbalanced freaks. In the US, this still works on a large portion of the public. So please be mindful of how people will perceive what you say, so as not to give pro-circs easy ammunition. Privately I agree with you that circumcision is a form of rape and torture, but simply saying that to the general public, or worse repeating it over and over, is a quick way to have people dismiss everything yo…

When torture is implicitly acceptable here, I will not shut the fuck up. I'm not asking you to "shut the fuck up". This is one place where the torture you are angry about is the least implicitly accepted. So why do you choose here to go on the attack of all places?

https://foreskinrestoration.vbulletin.net/forum/in-this-together/grief I wish that while working through your anger you wouldn't antagonize the mods and community here. If you manage to get the topic shut down here, you'll find there's almost nowhere else that will even give you a hearing.

I am circumcised too. Once again, you are alienating even those of us who are on your side.

I'm really not liking your spamming and combativeness. I know it what it feels like to be frustrated and personally affected by this issue, but you're effectively alienating people in one of the very few places we're even allowed to discuss it. Instead of repeating over and over that circumcision is rape, use that statement at a crucial moment with the right audience... otherwise it loses all impact. Perhaps you should take a break from this issue. That's something I've had to do several times i…

Well I can't assume those were all comments from women, but I just love the hypocrisy of white women who've never been in the slightest danger of having their genitals mutilated, saying that GM is a women's only issue, and belittling men who've actually been subjected to it.

Very eloquent. I wish I could speak about it calmly like that. I hope that some of the sane discussion about this over in Europe could trickle over to the US. It's an interesting point he made that France didn't feel it was necessary to make special laws against FGM, since it was already a violation of their law. I think the same is true for circumcision in most countries, but it has gotten a special exemption for whatever reasons.

This is most apparent in the treatment of FGM compared to circumcision. Even forms that are less severe than circumcision and happen less often are still "incomparably worse". Mutilating the genitals of one girl is a worse crime than doing it to a million boys.

What country was this in? If not for religious reasons why did they do it?

There's a lot to be debated about the details of how we should go about that, but Intactivists want to pretend like there's one easy and correct way to do it without having any sort of debate. Who gives a shit about details, right? You speak as if a ban were imminent. May I remind you that in the US, circumcision is still very much entrenched and has virtually no chance of being banned in the foreseeable future. If any ban happens it will occur in Europe, where circumcision is almost entirely a …

Another seller that specifies infant foreskin: https://www.atcc.org/Products/All/PCS-200-010.aspx My favorite part is the disclaimer: All tissues used for isolation are obtained under informed consent and conform to HIPAA standards to protect the privacy of the donor’s personal health information.

Feeding and education have serious consequences for the psychological, mental, physical developement of the child. And unlike pointlessly cutting off part of a child's dick, they are the duty and obligation of all parents.

By that logic parents should also be able to have their daughters circumcised. I'm ok with that too. And there you have it folks. Either idiot or troll, I can't tell.
/r/MensRights01/07/17 06:24 PM

So you care more for them, not their parents? You keep repeating this strawman argument that has nothing to do with what people are saying. Please read again that there is a distinction between cutting off part of child's dick without medical cause, and the choices of feeding and education that are necessary to all.

I want to know if you want to make it illegal and prevent parents from circumcising their children... I do, the only exception being legitimate, untreatable pathology of the foreskin. You simply are no different from feminists, or statists, or authoritarians, who want to impose their favourite flavors on others. There is no greater imposition than literally carving your preferences onto someone else's body. It makes no difference if they're you're child. If you can't conceive the distinction bet…

Mostly done by Muslims . . ." - where does this statement come from? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prevalence_of_circumcision Are there other large groups that do this for any reason? Filipinos circumcise in adolescence, I'm not sure why. South Korea has some due to American influence, and same with Australia and Canada. There are tribes in Africa that do it as an initation rite into manhood. This is one reason why it makes sense to compare circumcision and FGM. People often say FGM is "totally …

I don't understand first (beyond religion and cultural tradition) why the foreskin is cut, second I would genuinely like to understand the issue from both sides. I'm assuming you're American. The medicalization of circumcision began in the late 19th century. Some doctors at that time believed that masturbation caused all kinds of illnesses. They thought circumcision could be used to discourage masturbation by making boys associate pain with their penis. One of the most vocal proponents, John Har…

4) OK, though that's a gross oversimplification. As a health concern, to my knowledge, it's about susceptibility to STIs. Circumcision is shown to negatively correlate with contractions of STIs like HPV (especially useful for countries which have limited access to condoms, which is an issue itself). Even if we grant the outcome of those studies to be true, I have to ask, was it ethical to perform them in the first place? You say you are inclined to agree that circumcision is genital mutilation, …

Interestingly in the Detroit FGM case they are trying to hit the doctor with sex charges. Remember that the type of FGM she performed is about the same level of severity as male circumcision: Jumana Nagarwala of Northville was charged with female genital mutilation, a five-year felony, and transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, a felony punishable by 10 years to life, according to a complaint unsealed Thursday in U.S. District Court.

Almost all Jewish males are circumcised, but how many of them chose to be? Also are you prepared to speak for all Jews when you say "we" don't see it as mutilation?

"We in Norway are opposed to any form of anti-Semitism and we will always defend our Jewish community, with which we have an excellent relationship." Protecting Jewish babies from genital mutilation = "anti-semitism". I guess the Norwegian Nurses Union and doctors all over the country have no rational reason to oppose the practice. They all must just be raging anti-semites.

Co-Director of CMT, Lucilla Blankenberg, says most of the celebrities involved in the campaign support male circumcision as a way to offer additional protection against HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and other life-threatening health conditions that face men, such as penile and prostate cancer. “Men are not immune to these diseases. About 7 million people are living with HIV in our country, and prostate cancer is the most common cancer among South African men. Medical male circumcis…

How many of us were actually adversely affected by it and how many of us are just arguing it for the sake of arguing it? Or arguing it because equality? Something can be immoral and abusive regardless of the recipient's subjective feelings. For example, if you drug someone into unconsciousness and rape them and they have no memory of it, is it still "arguing for the sake of arguing" to say that that was immoral and criminal? Or to think of it another way, say that you steal someone's inheritance…

I feel violated. If today as an adult, someone strapped you down by your wrists and ankles and took a knife to your penis, without your requesting it, how would you feel about that? I can't see any sane person being OK with that, even if the intention was some bullshit medical or hygiene reasons. I don't see how it's any different just because you were a child and don't remember it. In fact that makes it all the worse to me, because they did this to me when I was too small and powerless to stop …

The only solution to ceasing the practice of male circumcision is to enforce the female circumcision of all girls. Once everyone is forced to do it, the tables will be turned and females will insist nobody does it. Don't be absurd. Once the practice of genital cutting is entrenched, it becomes extremely hard to stop it. More FGM would just make more people who practice and defend genital mutilation of both sexes.

“In May, people were walking in our area with clipboards explaining the importance of circumcision and we were about 30 men and boys who agreed and signed up. I got my date for 26 May,” he explains. USA and Israel are running a huge campaign to circumcise millions of Africans claiming it will protect them from HIV. I don't know how common botches are, but regardless, this whole campaign just reeks of human rights abuse.

To clarify, I think the female equivalent of male circumcision exists in the FGM spectrum but not vice versa which is probably why the other commentor was not supported by a female audience. NSFW: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penile_subincision
