Compared to anyone who doesn't lift yea, but any man who lifts with some level of commitment and dedication could reach that fwiw.

Ah, that seems like an accurate assessment to me! I wasn't aware it usually included muscular, I thought it was basically someone who was slightly overweight. That's a level of muscular development attainable by pretty much any man who lifts.

That dude is decently muscular. He has some definition to his deltoids, traps, and pecs. I'm not exactly sure what dad bod means, but that dude at least casually lifts.

Could you define vulnerability? I think thats where a lot of the dissonance comes from, I'm curious what you define as vulnerable.

Dude, I have had this line of thought linger in the back of my mind for a few months now. Thanks for putting it into words, and I don't know what else to say in that I find it kind of terrifying.

You're onto something, something that I hint at here occasionally. I also don't want to go into MRA groups as they don't understand it either. At least here I feel like I'm surrounded by people who understand parts of it and who aren't outright haters.

I think on average women do a lot more evaluating of their partners than men do, and thats how we get this more common 'locker room talk' among them. I don't love the idea, but its something where you're going to have to become secure in yourself and tolerate it to a certain degree. What's really bothersome to me is the hypocrisy and projection around it. I don't like being projected on with your negativity around something you do yourself. That's what really gets to me personally. I'd tolerate …

No, its not. There are certainly mens-focused groups who are filled with misogynists but being opposed to an ideology (not a gender, there is a difference) is not inherently problematic.

You should be deeply proud of who you are, as there is no point in pointing fingers at anyone, but focus on helping everyone. We need women like you, and thus the more you'll be heard, understood and helped in return.

I think a lot of slut shaming comes from other women, and its frankly an issue of biology more than anything. Men don't particularly want women who sleep around a lot because it makes it more difficult to determine if the child is his, and women don't like other women who exploit their sexuality for gain. In simple, general terms, men spread the seed, women protect the egg.

This is a lot along my take. XX and XY chromosomes exist, and while the sexes are more similar than different, there are clear differences that are not the same. I think it's important to recognize those differences, but that they tend to be generalizations, and aren't useful for defining laws or social rules. It's finding that balance. I think femininity and masculinity exist, but they're somewhat vague and everyone has a mixture of both with men tending to be masculine and women tending to be …

IMHO it needs to be put aside in favor of emphasis over class wars i.e. wealth inequality. I think when the left loses any kind of sight over how much economic factors can effect social outcomes it loses what's most valuable to itself. I'm not even really sure about socialism or communism but the left needs to revolve around the everyday man and women and what benefits their economic needs.

Hot women are hot no matter what they're doing. I know I, as a straight man, click on thirst traps of even the most benign kind from time to time. I don't think this has anything to do with sexism.

A little note on the men being close being viewed as gay as a recent phenomena, I'm reading the Lord of the Rings and the amount of physical affection that Sam shows Frodo throughout the book wasn't something I expect. He regularly kisses Frodo (on the hands or forehead) and puts his head on his lap. That series really is up there in showing what 'healthy' masculinity looks like. There's a lot of care, affection, and forgiveness throughout.

I made a feminist coworker cry because I said I wasn't sure that women are more marginalized than men. I can't imagine trying to explain to her or get her to understand even as a possibility that marginalized men are a possible reason for the rise of right wing authoritarianism. If anything authoritarianism is on the rise on both sides of the aisle, but it's men who are swinging the right side, and women swinging the left, generally. I'm not sure when or how this started overall.

The manosphere is so broad that its kind of meaningless term, and when it comes to feminists and society at large its usually a negative term. I've read a Red Pill book by a well known creator in the space and didn't think it was trash. I think some of the dynamics stated in that book on intergender relationships are more true than they are false. I do think they end up pushing for a lifestyle that might be considered selfish but I don't think it's outright misogynistic. It's a series of books a…

I remember watching a video he had about female bullying where he had to do a lot skirting around the issue to get any kind of point across. I'm suspicious that he has some greater breadth and depth of gendered issues but due to his wide popularity and the current social conditions he can't speak the 'truth' on them as much as he would like or understands. I've a lot of appreciation for his content and some of the anti-male attitudes come across (to me anyway) as more him bowing to the altar of …

If anything, it makes it make more sense as a lot of the reason for Biden winning in 2020 was because of the reaction to MAGA and not only Trump himself. The division in politics at the moment is bleeding into things it didn't used to as of late.

Reading this made me want to bash my head against a wall. How do they think young men are going to react to rhetoric like this? It's so tone deaf and lacks any self reflection. You didn't notice those behaviors when you were young because the anti-male rhetoric wasn't so prevalent back then.

Thanks for bringing up the fact physical violence is considered greater than emotional violence, it's not really something I've thought of being unequal in a way that might not be warranted. I suppose that kind of comes from the fact that we subconsciously or otherwise treat emotional damage as something that can be overcome, while you can't exactly grow your arm back. That doesn't mean that emotional damage can't be lifelong and just as irreversible in extreme cases, and sometimes physical viol…

I'd be mostly OK with toxic masculinity if there was an equivalent for women that was as prevalent called toxic feminity, but it simply doesn't exist. I've never heard it used by anyone ever, and it blows my mind. You'd think it would exist even if the term patriarchy was used in defining it but it's not there. I do like that immature masculinity is becoming a more used term by the likes of good men like Richard Reeves, but again, I have yet to hear the term immature feminity being used either.

I think it's bad if it's the only thing you do in a relationship, and I think there's some one-sidedness in pop feminists spaces where certain women don't admit how they objectify men via their money or status compared to men's tendencies to do it based on looks. I don't think one is better or worse than the other but there's not transparency or willingness to recognize that there's some level of equivalency.

And IMHO that's a deflection of the issue around men's mental health and what's causing it. Don't get me wrong, firearms increase risks but gun control seems to me to be another scapegoat instead of directly addressing men's issues.

I think more misogyny and more misandry come hand in hand. They're two sides of the same coin. We can try to differentiate suffering between genders but ultimately assholes are assholes regardless of who is affected. I remember reading a comment here that I can't remember the exact details of but they said something to the effect of the people they found the most misogynist (or misandrist, I can't remember as I said) were assholes in general. I think there needs to be a little bit more honest discussion on gender and sex and how certain qualities of both lend towards certain roles, and how there needs to be some kind of balance in both accepting those differences, allowing them to proliferate in meaningful ways, but not unnecessarily limiting either gender in doing so. Frankly, I don't think we'll ever get to a point where a draft will be completely abolished as a possibility, and I don't think we'll ever, or maybe even should, let i…

I'm honestly pretty OK with the former if there's a sense of acknowledgement and appreciation. I've had a couple women at work who haven't gone down the feminist rabbit hole too much and they'll compliment me on those qualities when I fulfill that duty. I prefer that over a woman feeling insecure that I'm 'better' than her at something. I try to extend the same back when they are more accomplished at something than I am. I was about to add something similar. I would take the term toxic masculinity more seriously if toxic feminity was talked about as equally and in a similar vain. I do think gendered aspects of behavior can be taken to an extreme that is worthy of criticism, but I do not believe that's what is happening in how toxic masculinity is used in popular culture.

I don't think it would even be social power. It would be a well adjusted society. There isn't a point of influencing people if everyone is happy, mature, and gets along. I might be jumping the gun on our position but if we're truly egalitarian we just hum along, and people follow along because it benefits themselves and others. I think any attempt of control or power, no matter how benevolent, has its own concerns. Leading by example though, there's something to that. That's just my take.

It's no more misandrist than saying nursing is female dominated is misogynist. I think there are some issues with how it's portrayed, as I do think men and women tend to have different interests thus tending to go into specific fields which can be interpreted by some as a negative outcome. It's also worth talking about if there are institutional barriers preemptively barring a particular gender from entering that field because of their gender. That is unnecessary.

Good! Shooting is a fun sport that's mostly innocuous on it's own. I'm not familiar with Xanderhal. I've got a lot to say on this subject, without any overarching point, as someone whose grown up using firearms as a tool of recreation, and whose recently pivoted towards using firearms as a tool of defense. This isn't wrong but it's not going to work for most people. Sure, you might be able to change the minds of a few people you're close to over a significant length of time but most people aren't interested in getting into arguments no matter how right you are. I think it's worth trying to find a different social group if at all possible OP. I think if you look closely you'll find that we are critiquing feminism, not women as a gender or sex.
