As a guy, looks get me initially interested, personality gets me hooked. I should note I’m 24 with no legitimate dating experience, but it’s not hard to have these values. On dating apps, such as Hinge, I’ll get very few likes, but most come from women who are on the bigger side with basically no curves. I should note that I don’t mind women who are on the thicker or curvier side, but there is a difference. I quietly swipe left or hit the X button and move on. I don’t complain or make a big deal…

It’s similar to big dicks. You don’t need a massive dick to get all the women, but having a dick that’s too small is also going to be a bad thing. Same applies for muscles. Too much muscles aren’t necessarily a good thing, but no muscles also isn’t a good thing.

That’s not something I find appealing.

It’s still a straw man argument because you’re going to use a 9/11 conspiracy to try and disapprove their answer. It was clearly not unrelated for you to ask that. What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? Why would I ask that in the discussion we’re having? It serves zero purpose.

Straw man argument. You know the CIA coined the term “conspiracy theory” after the JFK assassination to place genuine concerns into the same mix as lunatic conspiracies? Also, the answer your original question about “healthy at every size”. Higher body fat is linked to type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes, and various forms of cancer. These are not coincidences, these are strong correlations.

My take is that you should want to be attractive to your spouse. And that goes both ways, but to just let yourself go means you don’t have as much respect for yourself or them.

Yeah, I’d say I’m fairly “likable” but mostly because I know how to be agreeable, tease and joke without rocking the boat too much, and I can provide a space where people feel comfortable talking to me. So in that respect, I know quite a few people who would probably say they like me. Ask those same people if they’re sexually attracted to me and I guarantee you the answers would be a resounding no. This is not something I necessarily feel proud or sad about, but there’s certain nuances involved …

It was 18 and 27 by the way. She’s 20 now.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/02/25 05:55 PM

Men and women are different. The same people who say this are the same people who have a boyfriend or husband that’s older than them. Funny how that works.

I know a coworker who is 20 and dating someone who is 29 with a nice career. She met and started dating him after she graduated high school at 18. To be honest, from the outside, this is kind of a significant age gap and I was skeptical, but looking at it from a different lens, she seems extremely happy and it’s something she wants. She’s very independent, has a good management role with decent pay, and has stated that a lot of guys who are her age are immature. I can’t really blame her. In a lo…

I’m almost 25 and got absolutely shit on for liking a 20 year old woman and nearly dating her. I genuinely don’t understand what the issue is if she’s mentally mature.

Again, I have a hard time believing the culture similarities between Japan and western countries is enough to completely ignore this.

Not exactly, although Japan has a ton of western society similarities, it’s still very much different culturally speaking. A majority of its dating standards revolve around very conservative values, which would rival even the most conservative dating values in America. Even then, you would only find that in small religious pockets of the country. I have a hard time believing the U.S., for instance, is that similar to Japan’s dating cultural generally speaking.

Because I’m saying if everyone was at a healthy weight range, there would inherently be more options for everyone, more viable dating options.

I’m not talking about just men. Would you ignore a woman you’re genuinely compatible with if she was plus-size?

I never said anything about people being skinny, I said a healthy weight range. I like my fair share of thick, curvy, and skinny women too. If I hoped on a dating app right now, most of the women I receive likes from would not be what I would describe as “thick,” rather very overweight with basically no curves. Also, pretty weird to say skinny women who are clearly adults look like prepubescent children. Why? They’re adults, so that’s inherently impossible.

This doesn’t just apply to men, it applies to women as well. Those skinny incels likely do have choices with plus-size women if they’re willing to fix their attitude and settle. But, what would fixing their attitude help to do if they’re not attracted to plus-size women?

Most people have to put their education and career first before they can focus on getting married, which is not just a simple life decision. That person is now forever “attached” to you, which can impact a lot of choices. Plus, a lot of people change from they were 18 until they were 28. Best case scenario is that people can evolve with that change, but other times you realize you are simply no longer compatible because both of you have changed in a way that can’t work out.

I know a lot of healthy weight range guys who struggle in dating, but could date someone if they settled for a plus-size woman, which they don’t want to do. Of course, this isn’t a research statistic, so it’s simply what I’ve noticed and might be uncommon.

I genuinely can’t tell if this is a joke or not or if you’re in a line of work that keeps you overweight.

Notice how the courtship and marriage era that you’re referring to was when a lot more people were getting married right out of high school, freshly at 18 or 19? Marriage that young is extremely uncommon today because people don’t have the financial and support means to do so. Most people today go to college, establish a career, and get married in their late 20s or early 30s. I don’t know the exact statistic, but that seems like the most common age in western society. People are not going to wil…

A nice face can be shaped by losing weight.

It’s likely a combination of all of that. There’s also another facet where you have guys at a healthy weight range complaining that they can’t get a nicer woman because they’re not attracted to plus-size women. Hence, they speak about their “troubles of dating.”

Older/elderly women outnumber men. Younger men outnumber younger women in most cases. In some cases in countries like China, it’s a huge difference, though.
