I'd rather we go the route of more progressive countries and focus on rehabilitation instead of punishment. I feel like culturally we are in a strange place where society is somewhere at a halfway point between an imagined ideal state and our brutal mideival past, where technologically we are quite advanced yet we still hold on to primitive beliefs such as revenge or mob rule.
