Life is long. you’re 24. You have about 50 good years ahead of you. If you think you’re done for, a “loser”, and washed up now, man, you’re in for a tough ride. You have a lot going for you. You are alive, you are breathing, you know how to read, write, type, and not drool on the tablecloth when you eat. You’re better than half the world. But none of that matters. The only thing that matters is making yourself comfortable with your decisions. Not your parents, not your classmates, not your girlf…

Yes. Ironically, the car insurance for my 2 cars went UP when my wife died, because I was no longer “married”. This despite the fact that there was 1 fewer driver on the policy and the overall driving was going to go down by about 50%.,

I'm writing a book called "Harsh Truths: What we will learn from the pandemic." That's what I'm up to. Oh, and winning 2nd place in an online 3-table Poker Tournament last night. I guess that counts.

Why is that your next date's concern at all? Here's a tip: it isn't. You don't owe anyone an explanation for how you spent your money, not your parents, not your children, not even your dates. Business partners, probably, because they're entitled to it due to contractual obligations. But dates? Man, if you have a date asking you how you spent money on another date, she's not the right one. "Thanks for this, I can see we're not going to work out. Goodnight."

Here's the thing, you're 16 years old. Would you, right now, want 6-year-old you from 10 years ago making today's decisions? No. In the same way, today's decisions at age 16 aren't permanent (some are, by the way - wrap it up if you're going to have sex). If ten years from now, or twenty, or thirty, or even ten DAYS from now, you don't like the decision you made, just make a different one.

Any advice that any of us will give you won’t do a damn thing for you. We can’t adequately advise you about your unique situation, because you are the only one who can make a decision, because you are the only one with all the information about the situation. If you’re coming here and asking the question, though, that’s a signal that you are conflicted. You’re not entirely comfortable with moving forward, and you’re not comfortable staying where you are. Most of that is from ignorance - you don’…

Get feedback. That's the only real way to learn anything. Look, you can watch videos, read books, listen to podcasts all day. Until you actually try something, and see what happens, and how it worked out, you're not learning any kind of skill at all. You may know more facts, but you don't know how to actually do anything until you actually try to do something. So - learn to cook by cooking, and then asking friends, relatives, neighbors, or your own self, "Was this any good?" If so, why? If not, …

Yeah, I can see your point. The problem I have with a book like this and, virtually all self-help books in a similar vein, is the glaringly obvious logical fallacy each and every one of them holds. Basically, books like this say, "Hey, here's all the bad stuff I did and all the lessons I learned along the way. My life is great now, so I'm going to tell you all how to avoid all the shit I did and still get all the benefits I have now. Just buy this book and you'll be able to skip doing everything…

You’re 23. Your life expectancy is likely >83 years old, so you have more than 60 years left. Too late? Nope. It’s only too late to start anything once you’re dead.

so what if you get rejected? Big deal. the problem is you’re scared of rejection. But just because you were rejected, doesn’t kill you. Doesn’t negate your value. Doesn’t change who you are. It just means you were not right for that one specific decision-maker at that one specific time. You need more low-risk experience with rejection to see that, contrary to your own current belief, rejection is not a bad thing. My recommendation is to write 10 short fiction stories, and start submitting them t…

You’re 23. You’re likely to live past 73, even in a “third world country”. That means you likely have at least 50 years to “make a life”. You are fundamentally NOT too late to do anything. Make one change today. Don’t wait until tomorrow. Don’t like that you’re addicted to jerking off? Stop. Now. Today. Think that’s too hard a challenge? Pick another one. Go apply for a different job. Scared about that? Start practicing your focus by setting a timer and reading for 30 minutes a day. Decided that…

The reason you don't change is the same reason that others don't change either. It's simple and straightforward, but, unfortunately, many people don't see it. The reason you're not changing is because the pain of staying the same is less than the pain of changing. In order to effect change, then, you have to get to the opposite situation, wherein the pain of change (and, yes, it is pain to change) is less than the pain of staying the same. This means you have three options: 1) Lower the pain of …

Can confirm, am single (widowed) father of 4 kids, who are much better off than many of their peers who can't even tie their own shoes, much less: get a job (like my 16 year old daughter), save for their own Nintendo Switch (my 14 year old son), design and make clothes (15 year old daughter), and contemplate starting a snow shoveling business (my 11 year old son). Yes, bragging. Yes, we've earned it.

What to do? Stop reading “self-help” books that are written to exploit your addiction to “self-improvement”. The industry only exists to convince you that you’re going to get better if you just buy their next new source of tips and tricks. In reality, they want to sell you more books because, well, they don’t sell you any more books if you actually, you know, HELP YOURSELF to get better. You want 5 simple steps? Here, here’s 5 steps to becoming a better person: Read Marcus Aurelius, Meditations.…

Though you’re not asking for suggestions... What about a sabbatical? One of you takes a 3 month trip somewhere else. Fixed time limit, you each know where the other is, it’s not a separation or anything “official”, just a break. No agreement to be allowed to have sex with others, so if you do it’s still cheating, but it’s just a chance to think about the relationship, whether you really want to come home without chatter, etc. Couldn’t hurt. Worth a conversation, at least.

Bicycle trip around the country for a year. While in college, didn’t know where I wanted to live or what kind of job I wanted, so I imagined working construction for a year and saving money to buy a bike and ride around the country, meeting people and interviewing for jobs. At the end, I would have a story, I would have seen the country, and knew where I wanted to live, and what kind of job would be good for me. But then I decided I wanted to have sex, so I only had one option (Christian => no p…

Everyone has a different reason and a different perspective towards women. There are few general agreements or injunctions, but those include prescriptions for men to “go their own way” by following a few simple rules: 1) Do not marry. 2) Do not cohabitate. 3) Do not impregnate. 4) Do not pay. Most here will follow those rules, in order to be able to eliminate stress of relationships, eliminate financial risks, and maintain their independence, not just from relationships, but from adherence to a…

That’s the correct term in “lifestyle” communities. (“Lifestyle” is the new work for “swingers”.) Unicorns are self-identified as not only bisexual, but also unattached so they may “play” for both teams.

Thanks to you and u/NgMGTOW for these comments. I hadn't considered the distinction between publisher and platform. Does it matter, though? Is the censorship by Reddit of certain subfora even enforceable by the courts? What standing do the subfora have? What contractual obligations did Reddit have by providing the platform or publishing the content which offends another? Personally, I think any lawsuit about such issues, whether supported by the ACLU or not, would be thrown out of the courts sim…

ACLU should not get involved, as Reddit is a non-governmental entity. If Reddit chooses to shut down everything except r/aww, that's their right as the owners of the board. Don't like it? Create your own board. "Free speech" rights only exist in the context of the United States government. Since this is a not a government-sponsored website, the ACLU won't be able to do anything about it. Neither will courts take up cases for or against Google, Facebook, Twitter, or Reddit, as those are private e…

After approximately a year reading this sub, I believe this is the first time I’ve seen one of y’all’s faces. Pretty happy about that, as it proves that men are more interested in the place (or the bike, or the book, or the grill) than in shameless self-promotion and attention whoring. Well done, men.

Most people in open relationships still have rules. Like, “nobody I haven’t met before”, or “not more than 2x with any one person.” So if someone breaks those rules, it’s “cheating”. Source: me, had a Tinder hookup with a married “swinger” female, never met the husband but did get a couple of videos from him praising me for taking care of her good. Apparently he had cheated on her before because he’d met up with women when she was out of town, which was against their rules.

Draw a series of images, two men playing chess, at age 25, then at 35, then at 45, then at 55, then at 65. At each age their smiles get bigger and bigger, for nowhere is there a woman nagging them to quit what they’re doing and go antique shopping.

mental illness is right. Imagine if the son had come out and said, "Dad, Dr. Phil, I have to tell you something. I have only one leg. I woke up a year ago knowing that I was supposed to only have 1 leg, so after a year of searching I've finally found a doctor who will cut my leg off." He'd be sent to the asylum for treatment.
