However, I think the issue was more an uncertainty/lack of confidence with my pulling ability than a desire to preserve whatever view I had of this ability. With each girl, I would initially consider them to be borderline or fully out of my league. Once I closed or knew I could close, I think my perceived "league" was subconsciously redefined. Nonetheless, I think I have experienced something similar in my previous (unschooled) interactions with girls. Basically, I would see a new girl in class or around campus and experience attraction bordering on infatuation. This attraction would increase as I would get to know the girl and pursue a close.
