The defence also said the offences occurred when the boy was 15 and eight months, so her actions wouldn't have been illegal had they taken place months later. Actually it's illegal for teachers to have sex with students regardless of age. I recall a Melbourne teacher (male) jailed for 6 years for getting a 17yo girl pregnant.

I bet if they stole from their employer the judges would have no issue jailing then, children be damned. Time to start linking child support to access (actually it was time long ago).
