Exactly Geckobird. It's tempting to take on the establishment and their drones. Sadly most people don't realize what they're getting into. In the short term it will be the scholarship, in the long term it might get published on the internet and there goes - possibly - future job opportunities. Think of all the people taking a dangerous boat trip from Europe to start a new life in the US :) You'll be fine my friend, your family is just a short flight away and instantly available on the phone from wherever you are. I'm more than sure that in Europe at least that's a ton of money. I know none who have a paid off asset worth that much or on the bank account. If we're talking house loans, cars and such then yes but those are risky assets considering our housing bubble here. The only valuable thing is in my opinion global index funds.
