Because French cinema is different than US cinema. Films here are still subject to the MPAA and typically need an R rating at most to make money and be able to market the film anywhere.

Both Lolita adaptations were American made films that have to deal with the MPAA to make films marketable. The Stanley Kubrick version was made when the Hayes Code was still in effect, so he had to tone it down much more than he would have.

I just want to point out that Dolores in Lolita is 12 and the girl in this film is 17, which is well above the French age of consent (15). Big difference.

The unborn child is still not a person, but the woman's body and autonomy are violated in order to abort when someone else forces it upon her. There is a big difference between the two situations. I agree that a fetus should not be considered a person in all laws, not just when it's convenient.

My only insult parroted yours. I believe I've been very respectful to you considering how you've treated me. You are the one hurling insults and condescension. There have been at least a few threads where men have detailed what they want in a woman, mostly depending on her looks and wealth. The comments in the thread were overwhelmingly positive. If a woman had done that, she would have been flamed to hell and called shallow, a gold digger, and hypergamous. But because it was a man it was comple…

Yes, I'm the one being juvenile when I judge people by their actions and not their gender. Your last comment pretty much contradicted everything you tried to say. The fact that you don't even realize this is hilarious and shows the cognitive dissonance that you ignore. (Big phrase; look it up.) This subreddit celebrates male hypergamy and condemns female hypergamy. One of the many hypocrisies that is never acknowledged. Heaven forbid we interrupt the circlejerk here.

First of all, punctuation is your friend. Second, I laid out why I think the man is not funny or clever and I don't like his opinion. I also pointed out how it was sexist. You are totally welcome to disagree with me and "think differently and shit."

I think you have some deep seated issues with women and seem to blame them for most of your problems. Quite similar to your assessment of feminism I might add. Women are not animals or objects. We are people who are as varied as men. Sure some are evil and manipulative, but so are some men. Your particular brand of men's rights seems to blame women for every ill in one way or another. I have never heard any feminist talk about men like you talk about women. Your assertion that responsibility is …

Because popularity means it's automatically good. To you, Justin Bieber and One Direction must be the height of musical genius! Look at all the millions of fans they have! He's an idiot and a humorless one at that. I'm just pointing out the inequity of his statement that he doesn't give a shit about men who don't like children, but women who don't like children are obviously evil.

It is about being disgusting and generalizing. Interesting that you assume all women initiating divorce "betray their marriage vows, fuck up the lives of their children, and destroy their own families." All the men in those situations must be innocent angels that did nothing to contribute to the divorce. Again with the gross generalization. First you say it's about half of women married that do this and then you say it's about 35% with no citations whatsoever. I would give the advice to get to k…

How does that statement even make that much sense? Don't most dogs do that? I'm not sure because I'm not a dog owner, but he could have phrased it to actually be funny. Being a comic, he should be funny as well.

Yeah. This was after he insulted women who don't like children in a borderline nonsensical way. Obviously it's ok if men don't like children, but if women don't, there's obviously something wrong with them and they are "hateful twats." His "joke" was not clever or funny or even edgy in any way. It just came of insulting, attention seeking, and pathetic.

Wow. Your comment about women's "values" is pretty disgusting. I would say some men and women have that mentality, but to generalize on one side or the other is a gross misrepresentation.

Well, it's a reality. Move somewhere else you don't like it, but you would be hard pressed to find one that does not do that. And you're welcome. :) I don't really see it that way at all. Societies have for a long time tended to give poor people with children aid so that those children can go on to become productive members of society. This new French policy is merely saving them money in the long run by providing abortion services and birth control to lessen that expenditure and possibly use mo…

I don't find my argument feminist, merely recognizing there is responsibility on both sides. It's not even always a failure on either side. Like it or not, that's the reality of the situation.
/r/MensRights02/04/13 09:09 PM

First of all, this is more than a woman's lack of planning or self-control. It's also a man's, what with women not being able to asexually reproduce. Second, would you rather pay for the rather low cost of birth control and/or abortion or the thousands of dollars in government aid for 18 years for an unwanted child. Either way, the citizens are funding one or the other.
/r/MensRights02/04/13 08:38 PM

No you don't. The government will put your tax dollars to work wherever they need it whether you agree with that particular issue or not. I don't support war, but that's where a large percentage of tax dollars go.

If a woman were to come here and post a similar list of how she picks her mates, she would be flamed to hell for just choosing superficial aspects and probably accused of being a gold digger, hypergamous, etc. Removing emotions entirely from a relationship is just weird to me. Most people value love and affection enough for it to make it into such a list. I just think it's weird that the emotions involved seem to be irrelevant to him. So pointing out that you left out any sort of emotion or real aspect about a person on your list is shaming? I never told you how to think or behave. You chose to falsely read that into what I wrote. I'm pointing out that a relationship is much more than a list. Take it or leave it; i don't care. You are shallow and that's fine. You mentioned nothing about her demeanor, how she treats people, how she feels about you, how she makes you feel and other things about her as a person. A relationship is not just a list of assets and won't work if that's all you base it on. You just seem to care about extremely shallow things. About 6 of those things are about aesthetics, which are subjective. I see a lot of posts here condemning women for hypergamy, but apparently it's totally ok if men do it. Nice double standard.

Yeah, you just referred to a person as "someTHING beautiful that puts out and actually cares for you." You are literally referring to women as objects. You obviously have a skewed, creepy version of marriage in your head, where women don't contribute anything but their vaginas and their pretty faces. Lol I graduated with 2 degrees with honors and I've gotten a 4.0 all through the credential program. My sense of self worth is just fine. You've read like 2 of my comments and you know practically nothing about me. I in no way said the education system here is perfect. That first one is only about math and science, not all of education. The fact that California is the most populous state probably has a lot to do with its ranking. I don't really see how my state says about my performance as a teacher or my own personal intelligence.

I live in California in the US. Your personal experience does not in any way describe all women/people in education world wide. Summer vacation is not paid here, but we do get spring break and christmas vacation. The time off is nice, but teachers take home A LOT of a work and they do many things outside of school hours that they aren't paid for. So, based on your own experience with a few women, all women going into education are not bright? Seriously, fuck you. I am in a credential program right now (single subject, meaning middle and high school) and it's about half women and half men. There are plenty of bright PEOPLE. Of course there are people who don't take it seriously and don't belong there, but the vast majority are dedicated, bright individuals. How the fuck is the life of a teacher cushy? I'm calling bullshit on this. The center of the film lies in two men that rape, mutilate, and murder women. One of the subplots involves a man that abuses his position of power to rape the main character. The amount of female violence against men pales in comparison to male violence against women.

A male severed head is not meant to be erotic. This mutilated corpse/zombie torso in a bikini is obviously meant to be. I have never seen the male equivalent to this (a mutilated male zombie torso with six pack abs or in a speedo). If you found something like this, please show me. It seems like she is unsatisfied with sex and is trying to remedy it. This article is such bullshit. Part I) I don't even know why this is here. I think the "real world use" being lower is more due to user failure rather than a problem with the product. And it's a 15% failure rate with typical use, so that's 15 in 100, not 25. Using condoms with some other form of contraception does lessen the chance of pregnancy. Condoms are also greatly encouraged because it provides protection against STI's, which many other forms of contraception do not. Vasectomies are not even 100%. Sometimes they fail, but at a much lower rate than most other form…

I'm not blaming anyone. I'm merely stating that no one gender is completely blamed or demonized or victimized. If you don't see that, have fun keeping those blinders on. I hope it's nice blaming someone else for all your problems.

If you want an orgasm and if it's possible through sex, you need to communicate with your partner. You need to tell them what you need to be able to orgasm and vice versa. If the person doesn't know what gets you off, they are not a mind reader. A woman is not the keeper of your sexual gratification. You need to take some responsibility for your orgasm and discuss about what your needs are and what her needs are in the bedroom.
/r/MensRights14/12/12 11:02 PM

A Vasectomy is not the only protection available. He could have worn a condom. Whether or not the woman got pregnant on purpose, no birth control is 100% and there is a risk of pregnancy every time they have sex.

Numbers and popularity do not make her point of view or her statistics correct. Look at Fox News and Bill O'Reilly. Some punctuation might be nice so I don't have to reread your comments. I don't blame random people here for problems I have encountered with MRA's, so why should you do the same for me?

Sometimes it's better to keep unnecessary comments to yourself.

Please provide proof that feminists advocate for the genocide of 90% of males. That is completely ridiculous and I would speak up about anyone advocating any genocide of any kind. Don't assume what people did or did not do. It really pisses me off when MRA's say, as a feminist you don't advocate for this or that. You don't even know me, so how do you know what I personally fight for?

But you are singling me as an individual out and downvoting me because of your own issues, not because of anything I really said or did. I have been insulted by a few people here, but I don't take it out on everyone in the forum.

I meant sites of organizations and the like. Anyone can post anything on a blog. I agree that rape is not a gendered crime and men should have the same resources as women if they are victims of rape. I didn't know very much about custody disputes because I'm don't intend to have children, but it's sad that the male is immediately at a disadvantage. I think it is a legitimate problem if either parent is abusive and it should be sorted out fairly in court without a bias on gender.

Well, thanks for downvoting me for a stereotype that you continue to perpetuate despite seeing that I am different.

Based on what I have read here, many MRA's think all feminists are whiners and a huge problem. Thank you for clarifying your own views and probably the views of many here, but there will always be crazy extremists on either side. Could you provide me some links or sources for those organizations making women look like victims? Many of the issues I care about do not make women out to be victims and I would like to know more about what you're talking about.

I am a feminist and I don't think you are a creep or a misogynist based on those issues. There should be gender equality when it comes to child custody and dads should get paternity leave. Women are banned from fighting on the front lines in the military and that should be changed as should the draft regulations. Based on your description, you must not know many feminists because we are not all like that. Just like not all men's rights activists are like that guy here who called me a cunt for no…

How is a female character in a comic who trained herself in martial arts and acrobatics to kill her rapist a sexual object? Please educate yourself about the source material before making uneducated statements.

Who cares about your grandma? Seriously. I don't really care what she has to say and it is in no way relevant to this conversation. You sound like an insane person. You obviously know nothing about women and close to nothing about making a coherent argument.

That's actually not true. A women may have any number of reasons to dress in an attractive manner. A possibility is to attract sexual attention, but I don't assume to know what every woman thinks when they dress themselves. Are you saying women want to be taken advantage of? And their mode of dress "traps" men into this? You seriously sound like a creepy sociopath there. Also, in nature, the male animals are the more beautiful, showy, and colorful of the species in most cases. They attract femal…

Women should be able to dress how they want without being reduced to sexual objects by men. The cosplayer was probably very covered up except for her cleavage, so her outfit was not smaller than a handkerchief. Women should not have to hide their bodies just because some people are douchebags. You may not like the way some women dress, but they don't choose their outfits to please you. And I have seen men dress in just underwear as a cosplay and they are treated very respectfully. People take pi…

So to be treated nicely, women have to dress in burkas? Obviously, men can't handle women parts being remotely exposed.

I don't think anyone is saying that women don't commit violent crimes. Look at Lizzie Borden, Aileen Wuornos, Jane Toppan, Rosemary West, Beverly Allitt, countless women who killed their children, the list goes on. It's not new. I don't think awareness needs to be raised on this. Plus it's not really a men's rights issue.

Mississippi has ONE abortion clinic and it was supposed to be closed due to a technicality that was purposefully refused. The bill that made that technicality was created to outlaw abortion in Mississippi. (reference: http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/11/us/mississippi-abortion-clinic-hearing/index.html) This is a tactic that many conservative states take because abortion is legal. An Arizona law came into effect in August saying that women could be pregnant before they have even conceived to shave off…

Not sure about /r/feminism because I don't really go on there anymore, but this article might shed some light on the issue: http://www.thefword.org.uk/features/2003/09/feminists_are_sexist?skin=print She makes some good points. Gay rights activists don't automatically have to spend half of their time pioneering for heterosexual people because they want equal rights or to be taken seriously. There are also these sites that are pro-feminist male websites: http://www.xyonline.net/ http://www.europr…

I think many feminists do scrutinize the way men are effected by gender roles, like i did in this topic. When MRA's come to r/feminism to point this out, it is usually in a combative and trollish way. They seem to hate feminists and want to reaffirm their opinions by pissing people off.

Since this is my only exposure to men's rights activism, it seems like you guys are very one sided as well. I see a lot of overreaction and name calling. I don't see feminists bashing MRA's like many of you bash feminists.

Not a petty attack if your logic is flawed. Your response kind of like saying men don't concern themselves with lesbians because they are sexually off limits. I started my statement with "I think" because I am basing it off my own experience. You are making outlandish statements based on nothing. Keep your condescension to yourself. And you take one statement from an article and then blow it up so women "might" apply it to the entire porn industry.

Watching porn is not equal to having sex. At least not in my book.

Nice generalization there. I'm a woman and a feminist. I think this double standard is awful and any teachers abusing students is not ok. This film's portrayal is related to our society's view on male sexuality. If a boy has sex as a teen, he's congratulated, like in the film. It's viewed that he was awesome enough to get an older woman to have sex with him and it's not seen as a big deal. It should be because it is abuse. If the genders were flipped, it would not be child porn. Not with other m…

LOL I don't think any woman really cares if random guys fap. By your reasoning, women hate all gay men. How dare they not get pleasure from women.

I agree to some extent. Not all porn is exploitative and misogynistic. One of the feminists I admire is a porn star that frequently writes about her experiences in porn and in her normal life. I've never heard of people attributing misogyny or exploitation of women to gay porn. I'm just not sure what you meant by the increasing power of women in porn making it harsher. It seems to have more with pushing the envelope and creating more extreme genres. Soft core and less harsh styles still exist an…

I'm going to school to be an educator and the only style of learning that is taught to in schools is sitting down in a classroom, lecturing, and things of that nature. Many boys don't learn well that way and would prefer a more hands on, energetic, kinesthetic method of learning. There is also really only one method of testing (standardized) that may not mesh well with everyone's learning style. I find that the claims that female teachers somehow hate male students is ridiculous. Maybe some of y…
