I think the beginning of the article is unnecessarily snarky. However, what I would like to call attention to is the following point (which about half-way down - look for the bolded text). "The thing to understand is that there some rights which are exercised by a single individual, and thus should in general be supported absolutely, while other rights are exercised by groups of more than one individual, and thus are in respect of each member, only relatively protected. What is peculiar about re…

I think my argument that allowing the use of sperm banks is contradictory to the notion that men must be forced to pay child support is more compelling than what was put forward in the story. http://www.reddit.com/r/Equality/comments/9simg/regarding_deadbeat_dads_sperm_banks_and/

People shouldn't be using the law to propel themselves forward or hold others down. Perhaps, but using rhetoric to manipulate law is at the essence of politics and isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

it does prove that sex took place Doesn't actually "prove" it, but I would agree the DNA evidence would make that very likely.

I don’t really see this as an equality issue. This article is about a corporation / industry protecting its business model. If the man ends up paying child support, men will stop donating sperm -> end of sperm banks.

Love this idea, but not sure how many people would understand it.

Ok. I see what you’re saying, and yes, the statement is false. What I am trying to convey is that the statement is close enough to a true statement that many people might actually believe it, which is the essence of much political rhetoric. A kernel of truth, as it were, makes a false statement generally more believable.

Fair enough, not "The most dangerous situation" but there is some truth to it, which makes it all the more misleading.

"The most dangerous situation for a woman is not an unknown man in the street, or even the enemy in wartime, but a husband or lover in the isolation of their home." This is actually true, but misleading because it’s just as true for a man as a woman. You are, by definition, most imperiled by the ones to whom you are closest as those are the same ones to whom you are most vulnerable.

Saydrah, you said this to aawfan after he referred to a wife as a whore. Using hateful language is not a way to conduct a reasoned debate and identify solutions. Yet further up in this very conversation you referred to a man as a schmuck. You are either a misandrist hypocrite or perhaps just a troll.

I think there is a tendency for women to dismiss the complaints of men because they are evolutionarily programmed to feel mild disgust toward beta males, and males who complain are signaling a beta status.

You probably don't want to hand over the child you raised to this shmuck. I am surprised that no one has said anything about how biased this statement is. The person you are labeling the "schmuck" may be entirely innocent. The woman who cheated on her husband, and also cuckholded him, may have not even told the biological father that she was married, and yet you label him the schmuck, but not the adulterous wife. How do you justify that?

The former leaves open to interpretation the reasons behind why a set of behaviors work (i.e. the observer's thought-process), whereas the latter actively tries to uncover what those reasons are. Upvoted for well reasoned response. I agree with most of what you said. However, I disagree that inquiring into the thought-process provides much insight into the reasons for behavior. On the contrary, conscious explanations are, more often than not, just rationalizations of unconscious behavior. Not ca…

he who is adored by one population, in another setting, might be the object of extreme derision. True. But in the population where he is adored, he is Alpha, and in that in that population in which he is adored, more popular with the women in it, pretty much by definition. Just because a man can be beta in one population, doesn’t preclude him from being alpha in another. As part of the process of learning not to care what women think of you, it's extremely tempting to become misogynistic, arroga…

Is it possible that you might have had a least one drinking-related blackout in 41 years and not remember it? because you were, you know, blacked out?

Consciousness, memory, and consent are actually quite complicated. How many people here on reddit have been told by your friends the next day about something you did, about which you have no recollection, after a night of heavy drinking? Do you believe your friends when they say you ordered six drinks in the bar last night even though you can’t yourself recall? If you don’t remember ordering the drinks, and you actually did, were you conscious? If you weren’t conscious, how did you order the dri…

it becomes the male's responsibility to monitor when a female is properly able to consent I don't drink so this couldn't actually apply to me, but for the sake of debate... Doesn't the female then also have the responsibility to monitor the male? Let's assume both parties were equally drunk. If the female was too drunk to consent, then the male was also too drunk to consent. Doesn't that mean they both raped each other?

I think that the conscious mind we've developed seeks out other things Can we at least agree that gut instinct has more influence on attraction than the conscious mind, which more often than not just narrates and rationalizes gut instinct? the janitor sometimes gets the girl Yes. it's not quite rightly label as a reproductive issue Being forced to support children a man didn't want, negatively impacts his ability to support the children he does want, so it is a reproductive choice issue for the man.

Are you suggesting that the main factor in attraction for women is money? On further reflection, money did not exist during most of the timeframe that evolutionary pressures were shaping attraction. The main factors in attraction for women would be status / power which in turn are proxies for protection / security. In many circles, money is a proxy for status / power. If your experiences suggest this is so, I feel sorry for you Translation: If you don’t agree with me, you are a loser, a thinly v…

Well, yes. I suppose that's the idea, isn't it? And perhaps if one shares their ideas and discusses them with others, there's a small chance those dreams may come true. If you don't believe that, then nothing is worth trying to change. Fair enough. Kudos and upvote for logical and non-defensive response. that it's a legal and monetary matter rather than a physical one. Being forced to work under threat of imprisonment exacts a physical, mental, and emotional toll on the person thus enslaved.

"men and women are attracted to different working fields", but doesn't ask why this could be. The why is actually quite obvious. To put is euphemistically, wealthy men have more reproductive opportunities than poor men, which greatly incentivises men to compete for wealth. A woman's personal wealth doesn't do as much for reproductive opportunities. On the other hand, physical attractiveness helps greatly for women, so they are much more competitive than men in that arena, because it helps them m…

A man should be able to choose to take on what have been traditionally female roles without any shame! Women should be proud to support men doing so! Dream on my friend. Women are attracted to men who will provide for their children because long ago prior generations of women who weren’t attracted to those sorts of men were less successful from a reproduction standpoint. Millions of years of biological programming aren’t going to change just because it’s unfair. Reproductive rights, especially a…

I downvoted you for: a) Not providing a citation for the alleged study that allegedly shows that women with children get fewer interviews than those without. b) Implying (through juxtaposition) that the statement “men with children do not face the same…” is a logical conclusion from the alleged study. Even if there is a study showing what you describe, implying that men with children are not treated the same way, does not logically follow. BTW, I frequently downvote you for using faulty reasonin…

If a woman working an hourly job earns 75% of what a man earns The 75% wage gap myth has been thoroughly debunked. http://www.ncpa.org/pub/ba392 choice quotes: "people ages 27 to 33 who have never had a child, women's earnings approach 98 percent of men's" "Women make different choices, and those choices affect how they work."

There are many equitable solutions which would hold everyone to the same standard.
/r/MensRights08/07/09 05:59 PM

My only point is that there should be equal accountability after sex. Under current law, the woman has many options to bail out all responsibility after sex. The man does not. That is a double standard and is inequitable.
/r/MensRights08/07/09 05:54 PM

No. A woman can choose to put the child up for adopted. The man has no such choice. That is the double standard.

The double standard is that men are held legally accountable while women are not.

The unfairness to men is in this double standard. The woman can bail out of the responsibility of financially supporting a child at pretty much any time after sex, having known that possible outcome, even after the birth of the child without legal repercussion. The man has no such option to bail out of the responsibility after sex whereas the woman does. The ability for the woman to change her mind after sex, whereas the man cannot is the double-standard.
