I agree with the overall thrust of what you're saying here-- being better than average in many things is easy enough and a great strategy. I also think that being near the top of the ranking in something specific is not that hard (especially if you pick based on natural strengths) and makes you stand out, whether that's lifting, playing an instrument, speaking a second language fluently, or anything else.
